I was looking for a proven good project of a noise gate. I have a lot of germanium going with my pedals in the board, and a lot of transistor designs and I do pedal stacking a lot so there's hiss that I can live with, but it would be nice having a noise gate maybe so that all that noise could get lost once I palm mute the strings or just ... not play during the song :D not playing on some parts is music too hah.
So, your experiences with these?
Especially if someone is using their noise supressor/gate in the end of the pedal chain with the fuzz face/rangemaster/bender kinda thing.
What I have seen is mainly MXR Noise Gate and ISP Decimator builds. Any other projects out there maybe?
Some of my favorite artists also use an EHX HumDebugger with single coils, I know this is not a noise gate but I wonder if anyone has seen this project somewhere.
HI mate,
Try the Power Pellet project that Chromesphere on these forum's came up with :)
It's for helping to reduce mains power hum, so it might be of assistance to you, plus it doesn't take up much real estate on the pedalboard ;)
Here's the link for the Power Pellet:

It's perfect for a beginner level DIY guy like me, so if you are experienced with electronics then it should be really easy. There's only 5 components :)
That said, sometimes it's the little things that make the difference :)
My Power Pellet project is currently underway, and I'm looking forward to it being a permanent fixture on my board :)
I am also looking for a noise gate pedal as well to complement this, I too stack O/Ds, and like you I want to reduce as much noise as possible without putting my guitar back in the case, and unplugging everything.... :P
I have a Telecaster mod, with Single coil P/ups.
Do you also have a Telecaster??
Is your guitar "Shielded" ??
Thanks for the suggestion mate!
I gotta try this as well, but to be honest this is not what I was after :D This resolves some noise problems unrelated to the problems I am having with my rig and my style of playing. Hm, okay, they are not exactly problems, but minor unpleasant quirks that I'd like to make less pronounced if I can. Especially on parts of the songs when I either not play or play really really quiet. I too follow our friend Chromosphere on youtube and I think he has a wonderful thing going there, and this is a great addition to any pedalboard supply.
Still, a gate would be more useful to me I think.
I was given a MXR noise gate(tonepad version) as apart of a PIF elsewhere, and IMHO it does nothing. It passes signal but I notice no difference at all, but it could just not be working right. I have heard really great things about the ISP Decimator and the Galego project around that. I have one that I am building up right now.
