You only need a stereo jack when using a battery. So, sure.

The only reason to use a stereo jack is when using a battery snap for power switching. If you aren't using a battery ( I rarely do) then mono jacks are preferred imo.

I'm just gonna use DC only, no battery

I think I'm confusing myself on using an indicator LED as well on a mono jack
