I built a dirtbag last year and was never happy with it.
I did the MN3005 version and with a roadrage at 15V
When I play, I get distorted repeats and the overload LED comes on.
I was wondering if this was a result of:
1 - Im using humbuckers
2 - Fake MN3005's
3 - Poor biasing
Any tips or pointers where I should troubleshoot first? I havent done the checking voltages yet as the circuit is working, just not how I would like it to, but I'll post them up if anyone thinks it will help. I'll gets some pics up too...
Did you try rebiasing and switching to single coils or at least turning down?
I was using a guitar with HSH, I have tried using the middle single coil but Im still getting overloading of the LED, possibly a bit less but still distorted repeats. Ive tried biasing and rebiasing (using ear) and I think Im doing it right. The bit i find difficult is the turning of both gain knobs simultaneously as Im finding it hard to get right, it just takes a tweak too far and it goes into really nasty oscillation.
Heres some pics, everyone likes threads with pics...

I tried turning the level knob down but it just made it quieter but still distorted repeats.
On the second pic, it looks like the pins from the roadrage are touching the input jack (but theyre not)
