Title: Bass players - what to build?
Post by: the3secondrule on April 01, 2013, 06:27:53 AM
Hey guys, like the topic sez, what should I build?

I need something else for my board, currently I'm rocking a Big Muff, a Rat, a Sansamp GT2, and an EHX stereo MM w/ hazarai.

I'm well sorted for other dirt/fuzz, overdrives, and other delays.
I've used an env filter(80's mxr env filter), chorus(ce2), and phasers (mutron II, smallstone, ross).

not usually a big fan of flangers, could be interested in trying a comp tho (although I had used an orange squeezer, and found it too damn noisy).

anything else you'd recommend? i'm not looking for a particular sound, so I'm open to suggestions...

Bloviator, auto wah, chorus, any delays, I currently have 2 different ones on my board.

If you're looking for a comp, the Afterlife is pretty nice.

OTA Phaser's are awesome, and the Stagefright is coming out.

I like the Wolfshirt, but it is more of a fuzz.  Still cool though.

I've run a wolfshirt before, I found that for bass, I was using the fuzz more than the fuzz+octave, and I could get similar fuzz sounds with my BMP clones.

i've tried both the ross and smallstone - both OTA phasers - but I'll definitely be building the stagefright, cause I'm a phaser whore  ;D

I've got a board for the Demeter comp (another optical comp) here, which I really should finish off. I guess I'm after compression as an effect - lots of squish rather than just some subtle limiting, so I'm not sure what I should be looking at. I did build an afterlife for a buddy, should have tried it on bass...

I've got a porkbarrel with most of the tone pad mods. been using it as a vibe, since I don't really "do" chorus - should really try out the vibe on bass, huh?

I guess i'm looking for something "insane" or different, but still usable?

Ringmod maybe? really need to get my ringstinger operational...

keep the suggestions coming!

I just built one(for guitar)  I think it sounds great, rich and shimmery, not as deep as a small clone, but what is?  I'll be it sounds great on bass, and it got that analog mojo... you can still actually get the chips for this one though at small bear.  I'm building a handful of analog pedals to run at 15v, just because I think these will become unobtainable in the near future and I really love the warm tone you get out of analog pedals.

I really want a BOSS ODB-3. Got the schematic but can't find a board or layout to use. Trying to get something together but a little more complicated than I am used to.
