Title: Patsyface - Cheap PNPs to test with?
Post by: camsna on January 03, 2011, 05:02:49 PM
What do I need? I fear I burned up a set of $$ germanium ones and would like to install sockets and use cheapies to test the circuit. Then, I can replace them with Mullards once I'm sure the rest of the circuit is up to snuff.

What'll work?

Thanks!!!

any PNP BJT will work, silicon or otherwise. The 2N3906 is the PNP counterpart to the 2N3904, that'll do for testing purposes.

I don't know what gain or semiconductor you need , but Smallbear has 60-69 hfe low leakage germanium PNPs @ 5 for $9. They are pot luck, but I've got some OC75 and some Japanese cans as well. Some are as good as anything, others a bit hissy, but for testing you can't go wrong
