I love development threads and thought this would be a good project for one.
Fet overdrives are my favorite, so I wanted a solution for packing a lot of them together. And since these are amp emulations, I decided to go with an amp theme - tweed and faceplates.
The switching system is still on the breadboard. The basic idea is one bypass switch (relay), One switch to cycle among the five ODs (4017 decade counter with some 4066 switches), and a boost to push 'em (probably SHO).
Right now the 4017 is being a pain, mostly because I've been trying to use a debounced Arduino output for the signal and matching the voltages and grounds is a huge PIA. I just ordered a 74HTC14 schmitt trigger to do the debouncing in hardware and run everything at 9 volts. I found that unless I was going to go whole hog with the uC thing (which is still beyond me) an attiny wouldn't save any space anyway because of the necessary regulator/cap to go with it.
The OD circuits are already stuffed, so here's what's left to do:
1) order the 3"x2.75" aluminum plates, then drill and etch
2) drill the enclosure and cover with tweed
3) Cut out holes in tweed and maybe spray some lacquer
4) Sand inside wooden side panels to accommodate for thickness of tweed
5) Finalize the switching scheme and wire it up on Rat SHack protoboard
6) actually put the thing together
Oh yeah - I still need to order the knobs. Forgot to do that. 24 of 'em!

Hate to tell you this, but you've got a typo on Boost.
Otherwise, great stuff! It's nice to hear about people developing and experimenting :)

Nah, I always use Boosh for boost.
... I don't watch enough TV. Hell, I don't own a TV.
The Mighty Boosh!
I agree with you about FET drives. This is a cool project.
You know someone would say it, so why not me: what about Ampeg, Orange, Boogie ...
Nah, very cool project!
Seriously a Mighty Boosh themed pedal would be awesome! If you don't I will!!
This looks like it's gonna be a sweet pedal!

Sadly, I don't think the Mighty Boosh is well known outside of the UK. I only know of it because Netflix told me I'd like it (certainly because of my fondness for the IT Crowd).

Seriously, you guys are pumping out the design ideas today, an IT Crowd themed pedal is now also on my list.

FTW. Hahaha
If I ever do a Bluetooth based pedal, I'll put it in a black box labeled "The Internet." Assuming, of course, that I could get the blessing of the Elders of the Internet.

Cleaning up Coke Zero from my keyboard
This project is truly going to be amp emulation. Nice.
FET boost and drives are my fave also, they do a good tube sound.

Probably you will already know that but you need to run all logic ics on the same voltage which quirks a liittle as the 4066 should run on 9v to do the switching right. I dont think the 74hct will help as its specification is 2-6v.
Either use all cmos 40xx or 74C types.
40106 is a cmos schmitt trigger.
Hope this helps
Thomas
I was thinking of doing something like this, but as a practice amp, with switchable amp "emulations"

Egads, you're right. You saved my dog from hearing some loud obscenities. Thanks for the tip.
Now to make another order ... (sigh)

I just got some TDA7052A today and it made me think ... "If I just add a rub-a-dub, 7052 and a headphone jack .... "
This is cool... can't wait to see how it turns out
Incredible man. Looking forward to the outcome of this.

Love it!

Does this qualify as a Nabootique Pedal?
Glad Smallbear had 40106 in stock. That, the amp-style knobs and aluminum plates are en route.
I got 10 3" X 2.75" plates and it was $30 with shipping. Ouch. My unscientific guestimation has my outlay for this project at around $250.
Need to find a live chicken to sacrifice for good luck.
Voodoo is usefull at times ...
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamnit.
$30 in the crapper.

ohnoes :(

No, I skipped it. That must've been what screwed me up. Better head to KFC today.
I don't understand. What happened? The plates are too small for the design?

I just blew it. Went back and looked and I ordered 3" X 2.75" when I should have gotten 3.5" X 2.75". No idea what I was thinking.
Turns out the wrong ones fit pretty well on BBs if I ever want faceplates for those. If someone wants them let me know.
Making some progress while waiting for the new plates to come in.

That's going to be a great looking build. In some ways, it reminds me of my Andromeda build. You have my sympathy regarding the wiring. I'm building up a second one now and it's a pain.
Yeah, I'm putting the wiring out of my mind until I have to cross that bridge ...
I've got 5 coats of lacquer on it and left it to dry all day. Not sure how many I should do.
Got the 40106 on the breadboard and had some success. The new plates are supposed to be delivered today and the lacquer is pretty well hardened. Time to start wiring. Made a little video of my switching experiment.
Man thats cool... you're giving me ideas! Love watchin your progress Jason
Stunning work man.
But...
You're gonna need a bigger pedalboard.
Good news: Got the new panels, and they're the right size.
Bad news: I'm still awful at toner transfer.
I had it printed on photo paper at Staples. Tried three of them and this is the best of the terrible.
Any suggestions? PnP blue? Decal? T-shirt transfer paper?
Not sure what paper you used but I had great success with this exact paper:
http://www.officemax.com/office-supplies/paper/security-paper-specialty-punch/product-ARS22603?R=22335368&ssp=true
I think the printer might make a difference to? I use a samsung laser. printing a 300dpi.
It looks like your surface prep is ok. I wet sanded to 400 grit then cleaned it good with naptha before the transfer. Good luck
