Title: Small Clone Clone
Post by: marauder on May 09, 2013, 05:13:00 PM
Not just a clone, a homage.

Second one of these posted today from the same parts bin.

It's "Come As You Are" in a box.

The depth pot is much more useful than the switch on the original EHX.

That rocks! Very good job on the graphics. On the inside, I really can't tell your or Juans work apart, so very neat!

90% of the time John's wiring is neater.

You can tell mine and his builds apart if they have vertical resistors, or looking closely at the pads on a fabbed PCB.

No, it's the Baja Small Clone.  I don't think the Tonepad would fit in a 1590B.

I'll have to check out that layout! I still love the Pork Barrel, but chorus is my favorite effect besides fuzz and echo. How do you find this compares to the CE-2 circuit?

It has a very different flavour. It's a very watery sounding chorus.

ShortScaleMike did a nice demo:

I don't know why I've never done a Small Clone project. I probably should.

Anyway, that is one awesome looking build, marauder!

Cleggy, plug your bass in and have a go, TAGL.

This is the Baja Small Clone layout. Haberdasher can make you one. Can't remember where the original layout came from, but it's sat in my stash here:

http://juansolo.demon.co.uk/stompage/schematics/Electro%20Harmonix/SmallClonePCB.png

Worth downloading those as I'm currently shifting my server onto some web hosting then will be changing my ISP too, so everything's going to change URL wise at some point.

It's well worth a build in this form (with the depth on a pot rather than a switch. I have a real one to compare with and all the tones are there, it's just much more versatile this way). Worth registering interest on here for maybe Brian to do one. It'd be a cracker as a fabbed PCB.

They were on Freestompboxes, the Baja Small Clone.

I made one a while back, managed to get a Chorus/Vibrato slide switch (which I messed up the square hole on a bit) and Voltage doubler in there with a battery too in a 1590B, I would not suggest that unless you like a squeeze!

Definitely need a Madbean Small Clone!

Excellent job overall, Marauder! Especially love the enclosure.

I'm 100% behind a small clone clone. Something that can fit into a 1590B? Yes. Just... Yes.

Just tested it.  It sounds amazing!  I don't think I'm losing any low end with a 4 string.  Turning it off and everything sounds kinda flat.

I can imagine all the real goth bands in the 1980s using it.

Hey thanks cleggy, I appreciate that. I will then puck one up. Goth? Genres are so confusing anymore. I find chorus on bass very helpful in a 3 piece band at times to help keep things full. You guys rock!

Sound and vid are out of sync, not that it really matters here. But you get the idea :)

Then again, this fall into that genre just to confuse matters:

Other notables: The Cure, The Cult, The Mission, etc.

Sister's of Mercy is exactly what came to mind when Cleggy said that.  Specifically, Lucretia my Reflection.
