Title: Advice for a newbie.
Post by: funky see on July 01, 2013, 02:39:32 PM
Hey, I would love to pick up a good mid priced soldering iron, any advice would be appreciated. I would also love to have a list of must have tools for the fledgling DIY'ER?

Helping hands or panavise, and the Hakko.

Hakko x4.

And i'll second the Panavise. Useful for soldering, drilling, and other assorted stuff.

If you don't want to spend too much, or have to pack up all your tools when you're done soldering (like me, still on top of the washing machine  :() this http://www.antex.co.uk/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=180&P_ID=828 (http://www.antex.co.uk/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=180&P_ID=828) might be good. I've got one and been real happy with it for past couple of weeks! oh, and buy a good DMM (Digital Multi Meter), preferably with a function to measure capacitance.
