Title: COMPLETE -Tremopanation - Lovetone Wobulator build thread (was: Teasing is fun!)

This is completely unverified at all at the moment.

It's also waiting on parts.

Verah nice!  I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that it's a panning/dual tremolo :)

I expect we'll all have to await the reveal with trem-pedation.

The Tayda bag turned up :)

(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t282/Gutstwohand/tremyaytop_zpsafa5a3e7.jpg) (http://s163.photobucket.com/user/Gutstwohand/media/tremyaytop_zpsafa5a3e7.jpg.html)

(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t282/Gutstwohand/tremyaybot_zpsaa9b8d47.jpg) (http://s163.photobucket.com/user/Gutstwohand/media/tremyaybot_zpsaa9b8d47.jpg.html)

And (after a brief bout of "what the hell is wrong") I now have a trem that trems :)

Some rising and falling hissing with the envelope, no ticking that I can notice. I did separate grounds (gnd and siggnd), which are only connected at the ground at the test box. The expression pedal wires are not right, I only got a non-fastest speed when I clipped the loop of wire open, and the rate pots are on the wrong sides (I'll change them from pcbmount to wired when I box it, and put them on the correct side.) The two DPDT switches are my temporary testing "stomp" switches. They'll get swapped out when I box this.

I also can't remember what the hell the Mode rotary does. (One is Dual, the rest have the second side's LFO slaved to the first side.) The Shape one is obvious, you can tell from when the LEDs go from triangle to square :) I didn't include the little signal transformers, I will when I box it up. They're for some kind of isolation, to avoid ground issues when you're running in stereo, I think. I don't think I'll bother with the Trig and Expression jacks when I box it. My guess of 20k/2M LDR seems to work okay. The second LFO is decidedly slower than the first, probably since it uses a 2u2 cap instead of a 10u cap. I think I'll leave it at that, for now.

Sorry for the stream of consciousness. I've got to go to music practice at church in twenty minutes.

And for those who didn't guess, the Tremopanation 0.3 is a copy of the Lovetone Wobulator :) from MarkusW's schematic.

If you continue to flood the place with wobbling devices I may actually start thinking I also may need something like this.

;D

You are doing a tremendous job getting this stuff to work!

Spent a bit more time with it this morning.

The expression jack is now working -- it differs from the Doppelganger in that the jack does NOT use the switching terminals -- with no expression pedal plugged in, the connection between tip and screen should be open. Works best with a high impedance volume pedal, rather than a expression pedal (not enough range.) Looks like this, and the Trigger, will be making it into the final box after all. It also means you can slow the LFO down beyond what it will normally do.

Had it plugged into the Haast's to get the stereo sound into my headphones (for good separation, plus the flatmate is sleeping last night off.) Worked well. Went to get my two wallwarts, then it dawns on me... "Why am I bothering with those and a power strip when my Cioks AC10 turned up yesterday?!" (Good thing the FV500H turned up as well!)

This is the same electrically as my built version, but I've fixed the rate pot location problem, and also touched up the layout a bit. (The S1D and S2D pads are still in stupid locations, not much I can do about that without major hassle.) This uploaded version, I haven't built, but it should be the same as what I have built. I'll work up a PDF in a few hours or days to show the BOM and external wiring.

Please, please report back if you order this and get it going.

Killer share. Ill order this for sure. Many thanks again.
Looking back to when I first got into DIY, there wasnt even a vero for the lovetone big cheese.
Now, we can build workalikes for the whole line.
I take a tiny bit of credit for some of my contributions (1st big cheese vero, 1st Doppelganger R.E), but you have done some incredible work and made a sterling PCB collection. Deep gratitude, my friend.

Holy CRAP! Good on you Alan!!! Amazing work! I'm absolutely floored by this one.

I don't need to, but I basically completely echo LaceS's statement... I just am baffled that the entire line of Lovetone has been made DIY-able. So amazing.

So now... when will this one get offered as a PCB for sale by one of you guys? ;-)

See my sig for the OSH link.

I still haven't boxed and wrapped this one up, so there is a certain element of experimentation and troubleshooting required. I don't really recommend this build for someone new to pedal DIY.

Sorry for the messy wiring diagram. (I pinched some icons from Lace. Hopefully he doesn't mind.) I tried to keep it clear with different colour wires.)

(Mostly) Complete!

Just need to add the transformers (they ship on 10/2/14) and replace the LDR's -- the depth isn't getting enough sweep. But you get some, and the rest is what the stomp is for ;)

Oh, and...

CLONE ALL THE LOVETONES!

Hey Alan

Just a thing for your build doc or whatnot, you should you use a switching jack for R out (stereo) with the tip connected to the transformer output (via the phase switch, of course) and the switch connection going to the tip of the L out (mono) so that when nothing is inserted in the R output, the two tremolos sum to mono.

I have implemented this on my build, and it works.
Make sure to tie all signal grounds to both the L AND R jacks from the Transformer outputs..

Best regards

Ian

Finally got around to socketing the LDR in mine.

20k/20meg (that's twenty meg) from SB works GREAT in this circuit, I'd recommend using this 'un. Lovely, deep trem.

Oh, and:

Haven't done that yet, not energetic enough to drill the case for the switch.

at the very least you need to add a wire so your L+R outputs sum to mono ;)

Plus, the phase switch literally does double the number of toans, well worth the bother
