The Monsterplex was going to be my fall contest submission, but I ran into a few technical issues and had to slow down to make sure all the switching/signal routing was right.  After many hours of wiring, it wasn't!  So many hours of rewiring later it is ALIVE!

The pedal features a Multiplex with modulation daughterboard, a Zero-Point DD, and a Galacticon Deluxe Phase 45.  The Phase 45 can be standalone or assigned to the repeats of the ZPDD, and the ZPDD can be standalone or assigned to the repeats of the Multiplex.  Both delays feature dedicated slam controls, and adjustable ramps on the MP.  Both also have FX loops after the assignable onboard effects and expression control jacks for the mix controls one either delay so you can fade into them.  Both delays also have trails bypass.  Demo to follow.

Wow, no kidding.  That was my first thought as well.  I'm guessing there was a lot of time with the DMM on the continuity setting.

Great job.  Amazing build.

It's not single color... You missed the orange/white striped wire on the LEDs.   ;D

This looks like it was ... maddening to build.

Post by: timbo_93631 on December 10, 2014, 08:09:59 PM
It took quite awhile to get right, but not really because of the single color (aside from the orange/white on +9v) wiring so much as just getting everything to play nice assigning things to the repeats and also some issues with the loops.  But it was slow and tedious work.  Nice that after reworking it everything fired right up.  It sounds really nice, and I am looking forward to sending it off to Mat, the buyer.  He created the graphics, and has been lurking here so if you guys dig the aesthetic, all credit goes to him on that one.

"There's a monster on the loose..."

That's just stunning! I use multi-coloured wire on simple single builds, so I'm finding all that orange pretty scary. Well done it's superb and the artwork is amazing.

Wow, that came out great! The etch is super impressive, as are the guts considering all the routing going on in there. Imagining myself doing all that offboard wiring even gave me a little panic attack. Any plans for a demo clip?  :D

Tim, this is some next level stuff right here. Super impressive and that wiring.. man it looks scary but you make it looks so easy. I LOVE that artwork and your etch is so spot on. Great job, I'm sure your customer will be super happy with it. I look forward to the demo.

Post by: Mat on December 10, 2014, 10:03:04 PM
Hi everyone,

This is my first post here, as Tim said I have been lurking here for some months. Sorry for the length of the post, but, well, you don't really have to read it, do you?
Tim just emailed me he completed the Monsterplex, so I think it was time for me to post anyway and share the story...
I'm Mat, from France (so pardon my English). I have been considering building pedals for some years and discovered the very cool 1776's multiplex. After some googling I bumped into a few Youtube videos, among which my favorite (by far) were from Tim. I then stalked him followed his trail down to his blog and what I discovered was an incredible community here on Madbean. This had both positive and negative effects... Positive ones: I contacted Tim and asked if he could build me a Multiplex, learned a lot about guts, enclosures, etching and other magic... Negative ones: how could I start building something now that I know what can be done by the incredibly talented people roaming this board (the Fall contest is just filled with jawdropping builds).

Long story short, Tim and I discussed about my (mostly silly) wants for the pedal, which were fuelled by his great demos of his Multiplex and Love Infinity pedals, and he finally proposed to make a three in one pedal with the crazy routing options he described above in this thread.

This pedal has everything I wanted, including 2 effect loops, expression inputs for delay parameters, ramps, slams... Can't wait to hear Tim demoing it, and then to put it on my pedalboard!

The "art"work  idea started when I mentioned wanting to do a Cthulhu themed something (deep echoes and sounds...) and wanted to name it (somewhat pretentiously) "De Profundis Clamavi", after a poem from Charles Baudelaire. Then Tim proposed the simple, great, incredibly cool and adapted "Monsterplex", and I was immediately sold (and jealous of his naming talent additionally to his building skills). He also very kindly accepted to let me do the artwork. I used as a centerpiece the round Cthulhu badge (I attached my design to this post), which has been designed more than 5 years ago by a guy named Tim Collier, he seemed to have granted use to some small scale business activities on Etsy, I could not find any more information about, or contact for, him apart from that. As I haven't been able to ask use permission, I guess using it for a one shot product for myself can be considered fair-use... Thanks to a layout provided by Tim, I could work something out which I felt would look good and match Tim's etched enclosures style.

Well, I have now seen the Monsterplex... I am amazed.

What else can I say? Can't wait. And of course, thanks Tim, kudos to you again, the result is just incredible, and the journey to get there was (from my point of view, Tim has probably another version: silly customer requests, uselessly complicated routing, design delivery delay... etc) very nice/friendly/professionally handled by Tim.
Maybe is Cthulhu dreaming in the city of R'lyeh, but I know what my brain will be focused on tonight... I'll be dreaming of a Monsterplex.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the nice words on the artwork!

+1000

You could stuck a delay in the effects loop of the delay than then is feeded to the other delay and take the output, split it, and stick it again in the other loop, and then call the Cern and tell them that they don't need to expand their hadron collider.  ;D

Thanks guys, the prayers and well wishes mean so much to me.  Physically, yeah just beat up and sore.  I'll go to my orthopedic doc next week for some advanced imaging to see if all is well in my back.  My poor wife is having a really hard time with the idea that it was a close call, she is sensitive and struggles with anxiety so if any of you want to pray some more please pray for her mental healing over the ordeal.  I'm shaken by what a close call it was.  I think the front bumper of the truck that hit me was about a foot away from my head at the point of deepest penetration into my car as the driver seat collapsed backwards and he basically drove up into the trunk and back seat area.  I'm comforted that my kids and wife were all safe, and that if I hadn't been there the guy would have blown the stop sign during rush hour and t-boned and killed someone.  Hug your loved ones a little longer today folks.  Life is short and I am grateful to be here right now.
