Title: Pedalboard pics megathread
Post by: madbean on December 19, 2014, 09:16:25 AM
Why don't we have this here already?

This is a temp board I put together to spend some more time on the "commercial" pedals I own. I dig this setup even though it only has one of my own personal projects on it. In a couple of months I plan on building a new PB from scratch (finger jointed, tolexed and everything) to put my DIY builds and FFX pedals on.

Good idea for a thread.  Hopefully people can take a look at these and get some ideas for their own.

I posted these a couple weeks ago, but here are mine:

I want to hear how the amp-building and chassis building is going!

Do we? We have a post your best pedal one. Do we have another one for pedalboards?

Damn. This forum has grown beyond my control. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until I am de....

Maybe I will just make that thread sticky and nuke this one.

No! Dont, it's cool having yours as a start, and a bunch of people haven't really posted as they updated their boards so let's keep this one and just add "v2" to it or smt

...Aaand here's my humble contribution.
Most are clones of commercial pedals, bar the Double Delay from MB.
Underneath the tuner there's a PSU I put together with TH's excellent board.
The rest of the chain is quite simple: a stock Klon out of a Sunking II board, a Harbinger vibe, a BB clone (board from FuzzDog), a vero Ram Muff, a Collosalus, a Porkbarrel and the aforementioned Double Delay. I'm waiting for a dirtbaby board, so maybe this is going soon  ;) Apologies for the crappy pic!

Well the smaller one has the footprint of an A 3 size sheet of paper, so it's not too big. It's about 300 deep x 400mm wide, so rel. compact and light enough to grab with one hand while guitar case in other.
The bigger one is about 850mm wide and 300 mm deep, so that's something you need to grab with both hands...

Any chance of getting a breakdown of the pedals on the "mini" board?  Several interesting ones on there.

Sure.
Here it goes:
signal goes into tuner first, then into compressor and fat boost in rear, from there onto first pedal on top shelf right (the one with the 10 knobs, called the "hedgehog"  ;)) which is two THC 5 band eqs in one box. Those are set up that I can engage the top 5 eq or bottom 5 eq for three different sounds; true bypass/top eq/bottom eq. This works great for me as I play normal acoustic through it, resonator and Weissenborn lapsteel, so I can have one preset for each (true bypass is for normal guitar).
After that the bigger box is Univibe, I dig the vibe setting for acoustic guitar.
Then another tooneshaper: the Rc boost, also good if used with electric for some light overdrive.
After that the very left on top shelf is SJ effects Tonemeister (on my own pcb) for yet more tone shaping boosting etc. It's great to have several levels/boosts at the foot rather than a volume pedal I find.
Bottom shelf from right to left:
the big box is yet more eq, two selectable 6 band eqs (1776 effects)
into Double Flush tremolo
into Deep Blue delay
into yet another Deep Blue delay (meaning I have two different delay settings at the feet or even combine them together; one of the Deep Blues will probabaly get replaced by a Hamlet delay for more variety and as I dig the sound of that too)
From there signal goes to left rear box which is RubaDub reverb /SHO/Bloviator and from there finally into Fishman loudbox, tonestack set pretty much at noon and no chorus or reverb on that as I find the pedals sound way better than the inbuilt chorus/reverb on amp.
Hope that enlightens it a bit.

Yeah the Doppelgaenger is sweet!
Great work on the pcb there Alan (I don't have any ticking issues for whatever lucky reason on this 1.4 version yay....).And yes, on some pedals label help... ;) the other pedal I have labelled is the Snowy White autowah on top right at start of electric board chain.

Hi
thanks. no gigs, no longer in a band. I have gigged with that same pedalboard just different pedals in it though previously...

Its about the same as a decent size combo amp (20kg?)

Not as awesome as some of the stuff on this board, but it covers everything I do.  I rebuilt it a couple of days ago - adding the SeaPig and Terminus pedals and rerouting all the leads.  I think I'll make a far simpler Terminus, just buffer, master volume, Balanced XLR out to go with this board as the cab emulation on the Blackstar is about as good as it gets and this rig sounds fantastic straight into a PA speaker.  I actually just bypassed the EQ and Cabsim on the Terminus for a gig last week.  I'm also going to put together a far simpler board for usage with a single 9v source (probably the joyo portable pedal power supply) using my Boneyard and a few other pedals.

he probably has two boards more, one of them contains all lovetone production pedals and the other one is all clones, right?

I don't have room in. In an apartment and it's difficult to have more an one board. Everything is boxed up in closets. When I get a house with a dedicated music room it will be a different matter altogether.

I actually prefer the dr scientist dirt to Lovetone and the paradox is better than the flanger.... Everything else covered by möbius for space concerns....

Last incarnation of my big pedal board
(http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r19/Muad_zin/20150114_230557.jpg)

Guitar in -> Korg tuner -> Custom patchbay/splitter -> 1 signal out (currently to nowhere), other to board -> Bloviator -> Snow White Auto Wah -> Boss DF-2 (for boosts and feedback) -> Custom looper
Loop 1 Pitchshift: with Bit Commander -> WH-1 Whammy
Loop 2, a dual A/B loop, dirt loop: with Fuzz Factory -> Mayonaise III -> Little Green Wonder -> Stone Grey Distortion -> Decimator. clean loop: ?Lady (usually off as its supposed to be for a clean sound, except for leads)
Loop 3 Modulation: Ring Thing, Space Harp phaser, Shoot the Moon tremelo

From the looper -> AMT F1 preamp -> Pitchfactor (from there on stereo) => M9 => Nova Delay => RV-5 => back to custom patchbay and stereo out. Used to be to two Fender amps, nowadays, since I have that AMT preamp in the chain to two EHX Magnum 44 poweramp pedals and then straight into two cabinets.

This board is however being dismantled as I'm moving things over to a Pedal Train Grande board.

(Slightly) Smaller pedal board that I used in a Radiohead tribute band.

Line 6 wireless -> Custom patchbay with selectable input (between guitar and Kaoss pad) and selectable Pete Cornish buffer (for added fairy sprinkle dust) -> Korg tuner -> Whammy DT -> AMT SS30 Bulava preamp, for cleans, dirt and separate straight into a mixing desk out with cab sims. In the SS30's FX sent/return loop a Micro Amp for boosted leads and the Line 6 M13 for modulation, delays and reverb. From the AMT back to the custom patch bay and into the poweramp section of an amp via the FX return. Or not at all, thanks to the cab sim out of the SS30. It was pretty sweet no longer having to haul an amp along to gigs.

Small board for ad hoc configurations. In this case a Big Muff shootout.

Seven Big Muffs all at once. Awesome Muffage!!!

The cream of my rigs, my 19" rack unit of sonic doom!

With pedal board and MIDI controller.

This rig predates my current pedal building imagery trend for WH40K goodness henceforth the pedal pr0n. Its an awesome rig that took me years to build. Unfortunately, without roadies and a small truck there's no way I'm going to take it on the road with me. Which is too bad, because it works.

For those who want to know the signal chain
Line 6 wireless -> custom patch bay (I do love to make these things) -> TC tuner -> BYOC digital delay set to almost no delay at all (because I like how it colors my sound) -> Dunlop Wah -> custom looper
Loop 1: Boss DF-2, for boost and feedback
Loop 2: RC-2
Loop 3: WH-1 whammy
After the looper the signal goes back to the patchbay and to the 19" rack which has 3 GCX loopers with 8 loops each.

GCX-1: loop 1: Microsynth
Loop 2: Korg A3 multiFX, set only to the funkwah preset (think U2's Mysterious Ways)
Loop 3: POG2
Loop 4: Naga Viper
Loop 5: BYOC Screamer
Loop 6: Fuzz Factory
Loop 7: SFT
Loop 8: Dirty Little Secret

Between GCX 1 and 2 the Sansamp PSA1 is inserted as a preamp. The signal chain goes on from the PSA FX sent loop

GCX-2: Loop 1: Rocktron Hush
Loop 2: Rocktron Hush
Loop 3: Boss GE-7 (set for a clean sound with a little more highs and less lows)
Loop 4: Micro Amp (for leads)
Between loops 4 and 5 I inserted a custom signal splitter so from now on the signal goes stereo
Loop 5: Digitech DHP33 harmonizer L
Loop 6: Digitech DHP33 harmonizer R
Loop 7: Boss GX-700 multi FX L
Loop 8: Boss GX-700 multi FX R

GCX-3: Loop 1: Korg Kaosspad 3 L
Loop 2: Korg Kaosspad 3 R
Loop 3: Line 6 M5 L
Loop 4: Line 6 M5 R
Loop 5: Line 6 Echo Pro L
Loop 6: Line 6 Echo Pro R
Loop 7: TC G-Major L
Loop 8: TC G-Major R

From there on the signal returns to the PSA FX return loops. The output either goes stereo to a Marshall 8008 poweramp into a stereo cabinet, or it goes from the PSA cab sim output straight into a mixing desk. Which was how I planned to use this thing, and only use the Marshall and cabinet for stage sound.

My latest:

Starting from Bottom Right to VP Jr:  Bearhug->Kraken->Cerulean (BBOD) ->Klone -> BYOC OD2 ->Cosmo -> VP Jr -> EHX Pulsar -> Ibanez CS9 -> Multiplex Jr ->Tenebrion -> TC Electronics Nova Delay

Tuner is from tuner out of VP Jr.  I try to keep a little extra room on the board for when I have pedals I want to try out.  The Pulsar is soon to be replaced by Drolo's Twin Peaks Tremolo.  Can't wait for that one.

I'm also looking at a 2-in-1 with Jon's Clipper Ship into a Kingslayer.  Kind of thinking that would be a sweet 2 in 1.

I have a similar problem with a push/pull potentiometer in my old Mark III. It changes from channel1 to channel2 whenever it feels to (like right in the middle of a recording or so)

Send Mesa an email with your amp serial number and they'll get you the right pot, mine is a first draft production unit and they sent me the pot used back in those days because i wanted to keep the integrity of the amp as much as possible. Very comprehensive people, though... they'll try to sell you a MarkV or Mark25... word! hehe

Nowhere near as fancy as any of your pedalboards but here is my humble little board I just threw together in just under an hour out of an old plank of wood I found in the basement.

It goes from right to left:
Tuner, demo tape fuzz, GCFX Catch 22, Stomptown Pennyroyal Chorus, Line 6 Echo Park

The demo tape fuzz is my own layout with optical bypass on the PCB, I'll do a build a report at some point.

The board is for a gig tonight, I've been engineering for my friends band and he needs a guitarist for tonight.  Its going to be my first gig in a year, I best get learning the songs. Wish me luck!

Cheers,
Marcus

My humble gigging board.

It sounds like this (my band): https://ocelotalot.bandcamp.com

Top left (white/black) is a Devi Ever Hyperion I built with a switchable Green Ringer octave and Voltage Sag knob.

Top right (ghost) is a Rat with switchable Gain knobs I built using Madbean's Runt board

Middle (bare with red sharpie) is a combination Delay/Reverb I built with Grindcustom's Tenebrion Reverb  and Madbean's Zero Point Micro II boards.

Thanks to all you guys that helped make it happen.  All pedals were built in collaboration with madbean members :) (aside from the volume pedal).

So close to finishing. Almost wired up but ran out of patch cables for the volume pedal.

My goodness, that's amazing!

I wish...we had a full band for awhile and then had a singer move to Seattle out of no where, as well as a drummer move to Chicago.  We were basically just a group of buddies that played and with those two gone it is down to me, a rythmn player, and a bass player. We still jam and write most weekends, but just at the house, and just for fun. We have lots of stuff written and have tried to find another drummer, but we cant find one we like...The last guy was just a friend, and actually a guitar player (not a drummer), he just wanted to come hang out so he started playing drums with us.  He was perfect because we actually loved how simple and different the drumming was (a guitar player playing drums).  Now everytime we have someone come play drums they try to hard (for lack of a better work, it is just different I guess) and over-complicate the sound that we liked so much from the other guy...needless to say, we are still kind looking for the right guy again, but the whole thing is just for fun now.

Actually, when I first came one here I just had the idea to build a few (4-5) key pedals that I really needed. BUT, then I started having fun (I don't get to do any graphic design stuff at my job), it was a new art outlet for me, and I got to build my board at the same time. You all got me addicited, and that is where I am at now.

So yeah, that was an incredibly long winded answer for "no."  we have been talking about recording some stuff on the onle 8-track again though haha.  And if we do, I make sure to post some of it.

I'm so proud to be a part of that pedalboard!

Actually, it is OK man.  The arcadiator belongs at the front of the chain, IMO.  It is just residing there temporarily (until I get another pedal back).  Then I will probably run it in the every front, off of the board, where side-mounted jacks don't matter ;)

Sure, you need it at the front of the chain because it's always on, right?  8)

Haha. The only one that likely stays on all the time is the supro part of the dirt controller.  I love that sound :)

I like the arcardian in the front because I can play with running the signal generated on is own through the different effects. Plus, it is loud, and I can harness the volume with the other effects lol.

I am still experimenting with order though. The one thing that I dig right now is actually the hogweed into the superuex deluxe of the dirt controller. The order of those two will definitely stay :)

I like it very much! Very useful tones, IMO. However, it doesn't seem to play with the 100mA output on the PP+ supply. So, I guess I may have to upgrade that eventually.

I run a Voodoo Labs 4x4 to power my Timeline/BigSky combo Brian. It works great, and has lots of outputs for other big high power effects. it's also about the same size as a PP2+ and fits under the Pedaltrain boards easily.

This is the pedalboard I recently finished. I wanted to build something with a switcher to make it easier to demo pedals with friends. The Boss ES-8 allows you to change effects order, has midi control, and allows you to customize the buttons on the panel. I built all of the drives and the compressor.  I also soldered every single cable on the board, which is a Trailer Trash 28x16:

How do you like the Tri-verb? It's so cheap, I've thought about picking one up because it would cost less than actually building a reverb or fixing the one on my amp.

I'm going to say the triverb is ok.  But I think I prefer to use the sea urchin with short delay, low mix, and a fairly long feedback for that sort of sound. The triverb is a touch dirty on some settings.. It's not that I don't like it, I just don't use it *that* much, just for epic solos, lol. It's cheap enough, give it a go.

Apparently my post got lost from the crash today so I'll repost.

Here's my board after finishing up the Harbinger One.  I'm pretty much done with my board at this point.  I may swap out a drive here and there for interim periods, say a Rat for the Klone, maybe a Timmy for the Morning Glory.  Will probably try a different fuzz here and there, but overall I love the pedal line up I have and what I can get from them.

The only commercial pedal, other than the VP Jr and the tuner is the TC Electronics Nova Delay.  This is such an underrated delay pedal IMHO.  It has tap tempo, 9 presets, several delay types and subdivisions, 3 different modulations, analog "color" and on and on.  Fantastic unit.  I picked it up mint for $120 on ebay.  You can't beat that with a stick.

The Multiplex Jr is always on, set as more of a doubling effect and the Nova handles anything beyond that.  I run into tuner, then left to right along the bottom to VP Jr.  Then jumps over to Harbinger One and out through Nova.

I use it for Slapback at the moment, but it sounds great for longer oscellating delays as well.  I haven't taken the (financial) plunge into dyi analog delays yet, so this is staying on the board until something that can replace it surfaces.  But I really like it, and paid $120 for it.  The drive functionality is really cool if I'm using a really simple pedal board, and the totally wet to totally dry control really makes it versitile.  I also have an expression pedal for it to control the delay time, so I can quickly switch the pedal without screwing up my settings.

I've got the moog Ring Modulator, which I think has a similar drive setting, I agree that it's a pretty cool feature. I've been thinking about one of those or a Memory Boy/Toy. I haven't wanted to drive into the analog diy delays yet either. $120 is a good deal for that thing.

The board is from GuitarPCB, and is based of a dual filter from Craig Anderton's book.  It's got a filter for high and low signal as well as controls for how much effect to bring into the final mix.  Couple that with an overdrive (that's sort of meh) and clipping loads of clipping options and you can get a really cool cocked wah sound that sounds nothing like a cocked wah :).

Here's the pcb that's in it:

Ok, so now you know I am a person and not a bot  ;)
Here is my contribution to the pedalboard pics megathread.
I built the pedalboard from leftover pieces of plywood. All FX boxes receive 9 volt daisy chained from a 1Spot 9V Power supply.
On the panel board top row from left to right:
(Spare buffer) , Ghost Echo, Echo Base, Little Angel Chorus, Korg Tuner, Buffer
Bottom row left to right:
Modified EA Tremolo, Big Muff Pi Russian Civil War, Triple Wreck, Zen Drive, Engineer's Thumb and a Dimavery volume pedal.

With my Pedaltrain now permanently occupied with 1590G pedals, I decided to put my old Gorm board back together. Still a work in progress. I think I will add a volume pedal and I'm going to build that little three switch controller for one of the Strymons. Also thinking of a little box to plug that controller and the expression pedal into with a couple of switches so I can easily re-route which Strymon pedal they control. Not much DIY on this board but man it has teh soundz. It's pretty ridiculous.

Signal chain: noise gate - tuner - pitch fork (may move this to after dirt) - a mini Clusterfuzz I made - Third Rail - Ditto - Mojovibe (just found out this one has a bad switch) - B9 (not playing well with the PP2 for some reason) - Mobius - Timeline plus the expression pedal.

Well, I've built quite a few Univibes but I had the MV first :) Plus, I won't pretend like it isn't the best sounding Vibe I've played! Still, I have more than enough gear to fill a couple more pedalboards so a Harbinger One or Two is likely to be on them.

So sorry, I just now saw that you asked this. I love the two H9's paired with the ES8. The carry over function of the looper makes it possible to make seamless transitions of complex patches. I show a little of how I integrate the H9's with the ES8 here:

Here is my board, ready to switch for a pedaltrain junior :

THe pedaltrain 2 is way too heavy to go to gigs without pain in the back (especially with my Les Paul that weights already a lot), so I plan on switching to a smaller version.

I also want to sowly replace all my commercial pedals by DIY pedals. The next one to go is the Caline CP20 (green BB enclosure, fulltone fulldrive clone), I need to find a TS9 design that could fit instead (I do not use the clipping switches that much, the boost is nice though). Maybe I'll replace it by a Big Muff + an overdrive

Anyway, it is a nice board, I just miss a small looper, so maybe my beloved DD2 will go and be replaced by a EHX 720.

Catawampus Double Fuzz (modified Red Llama & Maestro MFZ-1)
Bogner Escstacy Blue
Morely Mini Volume
BYOC Tremolo
Metron's Flanger (BYOC Analog Flanger)
T.C Electronic Nova Repeater
Golden Scarab (Grind Customs FX Tenebrion)

I'm slowly working toward an all-DIY board, but the Bogner has proven invaluable...also I haven't seen any DIY tuner projects yet.

Hi,

Here's my new homemade pedalboard with some integrated routing tricks (tried to explain this on the picture... :P).
I built it in a suitcase style to be easily moved and well protected.
I like the fact that I can plug the input, outputs and power cable and still let the top on it.
The Lunar Crash autowah (modded Meatsphere from Musicpcb) can be controlled by the Maze LFO section or with the expression pedal.

My board is currently a mess and disassembled waiting on one final element (building a looper). I finally sold my Timeline and got the Alter Ego (and still came out $200+ ahead). I really like the Alter Ego so far...it's warm and musical and is so much more straight forward to use even though it is a larger footprint. But, who knows my Timelapse might trump it once it's finally done.

Current DIY pedals on this board are noise gate, Clusterfuzz JR, Bear Hug, mini Klon, Bloviator and Mysterioso Sr. I'd like to add in maybe the Freekout because it is fun to play. (I have another board that is all DIY)

Needs a bit of cleanup on the wiring but this is coming together. I think the drives will be swapped out frequently but everything else is solid. I put an LED strip across the middle bar and wired it to a DC jack to power off the PS.

Yeah I regret that there is not enough room for a wah or expression pedal on there. At least with the Mobius I can get some wah type sounds. Was thinking of getting one of the real tiny expression pedals like the AMT. I also kinda gave up on building a looper since I am going for a stereo setup now.

No, it's a Pedaltrain. I really wanted to build my own but I kept putting it off for so long I just said 'screw it'.

You guys with all these looping set ups...I'd like to see some video of how you use it.  Is it in a band setting?  I pretty much only play in a band setting and I feel like I'm missing out, but I struggle to see how I could fit it in.

Are the stereo pedals you use MIDI compatible? I know the Mobius is but I'm not familiar with the other large format pedal on your board.

My plan is to have mono pedals in the looper and stereo pedals after. Use the program change commands on each looper preset to switch presets on the Mobius for example, some presets being bypassed.

Cheers,
Marcus

Isn't the Echo Park, and all the Tone Core stuff, great?

This is my current setup ... Took some time but got it just how I wanted... When I started building my own pedals I used single effects. As you can see I still use a couple of those .. But then I went for a sort of downsize.. My main two "pedals" are the bigger ones at the center: FDS1 and FDS2 ("F'ing Down Size" if your wondering). The signal goes as follows:
1-Red Eye: Acapulgo Gold with added gain and tone controls
2-FDS1:  Prince of tone - Rat2 - Thunderpuss boost - ROG Tonemender - Send/Return Effects loop - Buffer/2 Way splitter - From here there's one direct output and the other signal goes to a ROG Condor Cab sim with it's own output.
In the effects loop:
3- Phase45 clone . One of my first builds
4-FDS2: Boss CE2 clone - EA tremolo - PT2399 based delay
After the main output of the FDS1 (no cab sim):
5-Another Tonemender.. I just love that thing
6-EHX 44 Magnum power amp

Here's my current setup:

All noncommercial pedals made by me.  The effect order is

Polytune Mini --> MXR Phase 90 Script Build --> EQD Talons Build --> EHX Big Muff Build --> MXR Carbon Copy --> TC Flashback Mini --> TC Corona Chorus --> 4ms Tremulus Lune Build --> Moodring Build.

I use the talons clone for most of my OD.  My amp (also built by me) is fairly clean.  I don't need two delays but I set the carbon copy at a sweet spot and adjust the flashback as needed.  Bought the corona on a lark, hardly use it.  It's mostly the talons, phaser, flashback, and now reverb (just built it).

I just finished my DIY pedalboard, but before to post it here I would like to get some help, please.
The pedalboard size is like a laptop, I cover it completely with velcro. But now I have a problem with some pedals. With these pedals I used some rubber feet with a height of 3,5 or 4 mm and the two layers of velcro, the one under the pedal and the surface of the pedalboard, don't touch each other.
I would avoid to change the rubber feet of 15 pedals.
Suggestion need, please. :D

Thanks.

Oh I see
you could use some rectangular piece of wood 3,5 or 4 mm thick and stick the velcro to that.
Up to you to evaluate whether it's more efficient than simply removing the rubber feet ;-)
Title: Re: Pedalboard pics megathread
Post by: JackSkellington on March 21, 2017, 06:16:23 AM
I guess it's more efficient removing the rubber feet and replace it, if this thing is really possible. I have some of them a bit less thick, and the next time I'll order  thinner feet.
A layer under the pedal could be a possible solution. A piece of wood it is a bit difficult to me to find.
I was thinking about a plastic piece, cut from food recipient, maybe more layers. But how I can attach it to the pedal? Attach it with the screw of the pedal isn't so simple because the rubber feet in the middle. I can get a little smaller piece and I glue it strongly enough, but it will be permanent.

Another solution is to rub down the feet making them thinner. Probably I need a rasp, I don't have it, now.

Someone has ever been found in the situation where I am?

I believe I'm done (for now) with my pedalboard (and I write these with a half built Flintlock Flanger and Celeste Chorus over the table).
But I refuse to make the pedalboard bigger, it's huge as it is for playing in a band and recording so rule is if a new pedal gets in another pedal needs to get out, and to be honest I can't think of a pedal I would like to get rid off.

This last ten months I've been very active building pedals, trying to find a set of effects I would love. Phasers and delays have been the most complicated ones. Whenever I found one that loved how it sounds I wasn't so convinced when combining it with the rest of the pedalboard. So here is my current set:

Input: Tuner, Volume Pedal, Madbean's Weener Wah, Pedalparts Super Skwisher, EHX Silencer, Madbean's Stage Fright (EHX loop), Modded LPB-1 (EHX Loop, first thing I modded in my life), Pedalparts Stoned Cleric (EHX Loop), Rullywow King Tut (EHX Loop), Pedalparts  Disorder Drive (EHX Loop), Pedalparts Mad Modulation (EHX Output), Madbean's Harbinger One (EHX Output)

Loop: Guitar PCB's Mini-ME, Madbean's Current Lover (this one I bought it from a builder), Madbean's Deathklaw, Musikding's Tremolo, Madbean's Moodring

The little black box with a foot on it is a simple channel selector for the amp and under the board there are a couple of klone buffers to keep everything as it should.

I have enjoyed every project much more than I would think I would and learned a little bit of this and that along the way (very basic electronics concepts). I still cannot understand every part of the projects I've built, but as a result of my new DIY activity I have a couple of books about electronics on my library that I'm reading  8)

What's more important, even if effects don't make me a better player (I wish), I believe building and debugging them has made me more conscious about some aspects of the tonality of guitar sound that I'm using every now and again. As a quick example, this has been the push I needed to finally start using volume and tone controls on my guitar (and then thinking I should have started doing this a loooooong time ago).

Thanks to everyone that writes and shares their knowledge in this forum and on the internet.
Although I haven't written anything (not much to share, really) I have learned a lot and enjoyed reading you  ;)

Here is a new board I finished up this weekend.  I've had an idea for a board of all dual pedals kicking around for a while, figured it was time to make it a reality.  Board is made up of leftover Mahogany from my AC-15 build, dovetailed together.  There is a I/O panel on the back to keep things neat.

And I know what you are all thinking, I don't have issues hitting more than one switch at a time.  Since I exclusively play in my basement and am barefoot, no worries on that :)

Signal chain is:  Bi-Comp (Ross & Orange Squeezer) -> Sunlion Jr. (Rangemaster & Silicon Tonebender) -> Ruby Red (Superbolt & Boost) -> Ultimate Octave (Fuzz with Octave) ->Tap Tempo Cardinal Tremolo -> Bi-Chorus -> Triton Delay

A new board setup for me:

Front end is an older Madbean Kingslayer with soft clipping, bottom right, used as a clean/treble boost
Loop 1 is three dirt boxes, middle row, right : VFE Pale Horse (gray hammertone), Function Fx Clusterfuzz on vero, VFE Alpha Dog (red sparkle)
Loop 2 is Aion's Lab Series L5 (top right) which is the main tone shaping and drive setting
Loop 3 is a Nyquist Aliaser, middle row (copper hammertone)
Loop 4 is mod pedals, top row, Cardinal Tremolo v2 (dark purple) and Lectric FX Celeste Chorus (copper). Missing:  Fuzzdog Tri-Vibe
Loop 5 is open (thinking about another EQ pedal here)
Loop 6 is two Freppo boards, middle row,  Theremin (green) and Synth (orange)
Loop 7 is a Lectric FX Zirconia, middle row left (lime green)
Loop 8 is the Timeline
The back end is the polytune and the BigSky (which is almost always on)

Planning on getting an actual Clusterfuzz Jr. when that's released.
And looking forward to the Choral Reef and Dimension C when those are available, either of which would save a little board space.

Rehearsing for a solo acoustic set!

My Martin 00015 (equipped with a Trance Amulet) goes into the tuner, then to the DI that splits the signal between the PA and the rest of the board that goes to the amp (either a modded Vox Pathfinder 15r or my Deluxe Reverb)

Tuner > Mictester Really Cheap Compressor (with bright switch and compression indicator led) > Deluxe Pitch Pirate (for modulated slapback) > Tap tempo Dirtbaby (2nd footswitch for oscillation, external tap) > Echoplex Preamp > Dual channel Mr Black Eterna Gold > amp

I guess I could build a DI, but I would not sell the JDI, so... :)

Love to see all your pedalboards, for some reason I had never really paid attention to this topic before!

Thought I'd put my board up here recently.  Is there two pedalboard threads?

The loop has the Blackstar and Black Gate as sometimes the gate does (used to do) funny things with the clean signal.  Might be dependant on buffers, as it doesn't seem to so it after the Blackstar anymore.  I dunno.  The Blackstar is too noisy for my tastes anyway, so a loop is the best option.

I've looked into building a DI (or at least a balanced output) into an outboard pre-amp. It's really not worth it; once you've bought a nice transformer, it's cheaper (or just as expensive) to buy something commercially available.

Yeah, I thought about selling my JDI and building one with a Jensen or Cinemag but it wasn't very interesting, like I could maybe save €30 or 40, that's about it. And I don't need all the functions of the JDI, but it's good to have them.

Gearing up for the 2018 pedalboard. I am going to build two loopers with soft-touch switching. It won't be anything fancy with presets - just straight bypass. There will be 9 mono bypass loops and then three momentary switches that plug into the Mobius for preset/TT control. The bypass loops are actually based on the Coda bypass! The Mobius/Alter Ego and T2 are all run in stereo so they won't be included in the looper.

There's an empty spot where I hoped to add either the Freekout (Digitech) or Quintessence (TC) but I don't think I'll have the cash for that right now. I think I will replace the 2-knob Bloviator with the newer 3-knob 1590A version. And, maybe the 4:1 with the White Horse (haven't decided).

This is my commercial/ambient PB. I have another one that's all DIY/MBP stuff which I am constantly changing!

That foldable board is really nice!

Not a beauty, but a beast: As I was in a hurry to put together a new rock board, I reused one of my older boards and have some space left (well...never thought I would say THAT about my boards).

Signal Chain:
I am singing backing vocals as well, so the Korg Tuner is used to split the signal and send one half to the TC Helicon (via a ground lift cable to prevent hum) to produce the correct harmonies. The TC is not used to further process the guitar signal (it's not really made for electric guitars).

The other half of the signal goes to the FreQout, Wah Wah (of course with a madbean board in it), Queen of Bones, Amp. The Alter Ego Delay is in the FX Loop of the amp.

The Amp is usually set up rather clean and the QoB does the boost/drive. I use the amp's dirty channel only for heavy stuff. The amp has a nice reverb as well.

Everything goes through the buffered gateway on the top left (I can switch on individual klon buffers on the input, send, return, output as required) in there and is connected to the amp with a multicore cable. Power is provided by a Palmer PWT08 which can feed the hungry pedals as well (TC Helicon: 12V, 400 mA, FreQout: 9V, 235 mA).

What did you use for the buffer box? Did you make the board or use prefab? I love the idea. I am going to build a couple of buffers but putting them all in one box is a stellar idea!

I made the pedal board, if that was your question :-). The buffers are 4 switchable Klon buffers on Vero. Send/return is bridged when not used, which allows for easy (delay in front of amp) and more complex (delay in fx loop) setups without having to rewire everything.

My 2019 pedalboard is build around my Eoo3 looper. Other than that, only one diy effect, the queen of bone. And of course a huge patch box to route audio for electric and acoustic guitar as well as vocals, amp switching and amp fx loop.

The boss switch is to switch vocal harmonies on and off. There is a little hole in the top deck over the status LED of the TC play acoustic (on the top right corner of the queen of bone).

The footswitch on the patch box determines, whether the vocal harmonies are derived from the acoustic or electric guitar. The acoustic guitar is muted, when the electric guitar is selected. The electric guitar is NOT muted, when the acoustic guitar is selected. I am in a band, where the second guitar player takes my acoustic from time to time, so we can both play  ;D

Complicated stuff, I know, but once it's set up, it's surprisingly easy...

It all fits in an old hardcover suitcase...

I still need to do some aluminum edges and fix the patch box with something other than duct tape, but as I need the board next weekend, I am afraid it will stay like this for some time...

I've had a goal to build a completely DIY board for my bass.  Most of the flangers and chorus pedals I have built have been auditioning for this.
Finally decided on a phaser for the last position, now it's all done!

I built it inside a toolbox because I use a vocal FX processor, and I wanted to have a place to keep everything together.  I used a backpack for years, this is much better.

Pedals are:  tuner -> JMK Big Bass Drive (with added blend control) -> Schu-tone Lone Wolf -> VFE Choral Reef -> VFE Tractor Beam -> Dead End FX Flange-A-Rama

getting close to done. I need to mount the power supply underneath and run the cables there as well.

Current state of the big board. Powered by a CIOKS AC10 because I used to have a HT-dual on there (Has been powered by a 1spot hen the HT-Dual wasn't on it).

Tuner, wah, Lightspeed (comp/klon),  Leviathan (TB, SHo, TB->SHO, Zendrive/Englishman, Plexi), Behringer multi, Spacestation (Porkbarrel, DBD w/tap, Rubadub), SHO, Endgame (klon buffer, splitter to 1/4out, Bloviator, Lart's cabsim, splitter to 1/4out and XLR out (THCustoms Linedriver)....

Update: With the release of the HX Stomp firmware version 2.8 earlier this year, Line 6 added the Zendrive (Dhyana Drive), the Prince of Tone (Heir Apparent) and the King of Tone (Tone Sovereign). I was able to compare my "Queen of Bone" with the Tone Sovereign, and while it is different, it's hard to tell which one is better. Hard stuff for an analog believer like me ;-)

Ultimately, I removed the Queen of Bone and replaced it in my patches with its digital brother. The HX is controlled with my Eoo3 Midi controller, that also switches my amp's channels. I also created some really convincing new patches that use the zendrive into the litigator (Dumble Clone) and go straight to the Engl Ironball's return jack.

With the space no longer needed, I could move the vocal processor to the top deck.

Current board.  Chain is - tuner, Naughtyfish, wah, Lightspeed, Magnum opus, HT-dual, Stealth, Endgame.  Powered by a CIOKS AC10.

Looking to replace the Endgame/Stealth combo with a Zoom G3x, possibly.  Not sure which of the HT or Magnum will stay on the board.  The Magnum Opus can get HT drive levels, and cop the sound too.

^Hey Willy- cool 'Board!  Is that a tap-tempo delay that's part of your "Stealth" effect?  I don't use my massive DL-4 enough to justify bringing it with me on my pedalboard everywhere, but I really miss the tap-tempo function, so I'm looking for a smaller project I can build- any help would be..quite helpful!

Yep.  It's a Mimik, iirc, might be a DBD, using this tap pcb:

I've also used it in my Space Station multi.

I'm a sax player. The Voco Loco takes the mic signal and converts it to low-z 1/4 in. Oh yeah, I made the pedal board out of aluminum stock.

Well.... that didn't last long.  Decided the HT-dual was possibly flaking again, realised I never used phaser, and the Rubadub reverb doesn't play great with the tap tempo (it's not connected, but the reverb seems to take some clocking from it) and I never used the delay either, so that's set for a reverb type thing for solos....

1. Parasit Studio 0415, Guitar Synthesizer
2. MadBean Flunkee, FX-25 clone
3. PPCB Sea Horse, Sea Machine clone
4. PPCB Kliche Mini, Centaur clone
5. MadBean Green Bean, Tube Screamer clone
6. MadBean Fritter, Hot Cake clone
7. Ernie Ball VP. JR, volume pedal
8. MadBean Wavelord, tremolo
9. BYOC Li'l Reverb, FV-1 reverb (My first build ever)

^^Thanks for the kind words, guys!

I'm really enjoying this pedalboard so far- it's the most light-weight and has the smallest footprint of any of the 8-10 'boards I've built in my years, all thanks to extensive planning, uniform-shaped enclosures, and top-mounted jacks..I'm slowly learning to live without my DL-4 and MoogerFooger ring modulator, but a worthy sacrifice for the size/weight difference.

^Thanks pgodfrin!  That Tube Screamer back there is the whole reason I got started assembling effects..by being broken and needing repair!

Here's the pedal board I made some time ago (things that happen when I'm home alone). I used some alluminium profiles and some scrap wood I had at home. The wood has been appropriately beaten up and stained to give it this old barn look, while the screws have been polished to a mirror finish. I like this contrast 8) 8)
The effects are all by me except the EQ and the looper. The power supply is a Harley Benton Powerplant Junior.
The input on the side is stereo and is split in two channels in the board, all because one of my guitars has a stereo output (E pick ups + Piezo).
The piezo channel goes to the EQ while the electric channel goes through the rest of the effects. The little box in the lower left close to the looper (the Switch) is used to switch the output between the two channels and goes directly to the looper.
I'll open a thread with some build reports of the effects in the pictures for the more curious of you  ;), but there's a Skreddy Lunar Module, an MXR Distortion+ slightly modded, a ROG tri-vibe, a 3Verb from Musikding with an added tone control, and the 1590DD in the middle is a ROG Ginger with a modded Condor cab sim, basically an Ampeg Portaflex + cabinet in a box. I use it with a bass, but it sounds good with guitars as well.

Thanks, yes, indeed it is quite light, but it's very solid, you can step on it. Well, at least I can, but I'm not exactly what you would call a big guy  ;D And with the velcro I can move it around without worrying about stuff flying off the board.

@Playpunk: your link is broken!

This is the first change to my main board in a while. I've crammed as much as I possibly can on a Pedaltrain Jr. Everything is powered by a One Spot CS7. The volume pedal is actually connected to a TRS jack send/return that's mounted through the frame of the board. This allows me to keep the pedal flat on the floor where it's easier to operate, but still have it sit after drives and before modulation and delay in the signal chain.

This is my last version.
(https://i.postimg.cc/PpKWBpcC/20200329-101937.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/PpKWBpcC)
the first is an empty box to power my bass guitar, so I don't need battery.
tuner into zvex machine clone, into ditto (I use it to test my effect), into an fet overdrive, into a mountainking megalith, into a bigmuff, into a CE-2, into an electric mistress, into a delay.
A lot of effect are missing, but at this moment I use only these.
It started in 2008 and changed about once a month.
Now I'm planning a modular cornish style pedalboard with programmable looper.
so I won't need enclosure, jacks and footswitches.

Setting up a traditional blues / jazz board for a telecaster / matchless Spitfire Combination, that does not need a lot... Zendrive, King of Tone, Aion L5 (Clean Channel), Tap Tempo Tremolo, Alter Ego delay, Hall of Fame Reverb
