Title: Proper install of 9mm pots - bend the bottom tab?
Post by: dont-tase-me-bro on January 06, 2015, 01:58:21 AM
Noob here.  On a 9mm pot, do you bend out that tab and mount the pot flush, or leave it as is, and have the pot sit up a bit?

Thanks,
Pat

It depends on how I'm going to use them. If I'm mounting them hanging off the edge so that I can get top mounted jacks over them, I break off the tabs and the support legs. If I'm mounting them on the board in the middle of the PCB, then I leave the tabs and support legs on and set the PCB footprint up so that I have the extra mounting holes there.

The tab support and the legs clip in at about the right height so that the pot and toggle switches are at about the right height for each other too.
