pacman font = fully awesome!!! ;D
I am intently waiting like a dog staring at a milk-bone biscuit 8)
Haha you guys are awesome :D
Super super stoked about this one, might be one of my best yet!
Just a couple of more wires, and I will be doing an extensive demo of course.
Been seeing so many awesome arcadiator builds lately, it is such a well designed and fun pedal.
Freaking awesome faceplate artwork. It came out so clean. Looking forward to seeing some more pictures.
Cody
Where do you get those faceplats btw? they look awesome and über clean
Beep booooop beep blip beep. Up up , down down, left right, left right, b, a, b, a, select start.

The first one is easy... doom!
The second one I had to look up....didn't know that one
Impressive! Do I spy an extra LFO?
You had to spoil the surprise didn't you! :) Yes, it's the extra LFO but I am using the same pot for the standard Width control of the Arcadiator and the speed of the LFO when in Bonus Stage! mode. I thought it was an elegant solution given that the same pot value and taper is needed for both things. I spent an eternity fine tuning the wave of the LFO in order to get to a symmetrical phaser sweep, it sounds rad. The Advanced Photonix cell from smallbear was head and shoulders above all of the others I've tried here.
The demo will show it all I hope :)
extra LFO? That's just plain awesome. Nice!
Wow... Can't wait for the full build report!
Nice tease. I can't wait to the finished pedal, gutshot and all.
Pictures coming in a couple of hours. Here's a demo of sorts, I improvised this mess

Imma gonna record the Bonus Stage some more out of the song context later in the day, and my buddy will be doing his own demo with video and all, can't wait for him to finish, he does it very very well.
Best circuit ever :D Fredrik I am so grateful!

Ya ya so cool and wicked! Very cool with the LFO as well, bazinga!
I have listened to your demo like 5 times now. Love it!

Nice, I so wanted to do that with mine and boxed myself into a corner by sticking it into a 125B :(
Yeah, me and you both recognized the potential of the Depth control right away (and let's not kid ourselves, you will definitely build another one, we all know it :) ). It makes for an awesome phaser-ish sound, as I said I will show it better in a separate demo, last night I was transfixed by this gem's ability to rawk!
So...here it is finally!
Kuato Design's rendition of The Arcadiator - an insane octave and velcro fuzz, nintendo bonus quest simulator, and a modulated carrousel of sinisterness!

lots of stuff under the hood, the Shot the Moon LFO on vero takes away from the ultra clean and nice looking layout by Ben, but it is what it is...lots of wires to make the one knob for both controls situation happen also...

I would recommend to anyone building this - do the extra LFO, it's absolutely gorgeous and expands on the pedal well. On my build it pulsates through the jewel light at the center, looks very nice.
A video by my friend will be up in a couple of days which will show his take on the sounds. So many of em to explore. This build is a must.
Most excellent! 8)
This is Insane!!! :D
Awesome stuff! What does the second foot switch do?
thanks guys!
the second switch engages the second LFO which is just a way of manipulating the Depth control, or was it Width on the original? dunno anymore haha, but yeah, I cannot stop thinking, while the second lfo is engaged, how someone is manually tinkering with the knob left-right left-right hehe.
More on that one with sound samples later in the day, stay tuned. I would describe the sound as...um...through-zero phaser comes to mind first. Yes, I'm gonna go with through-zero phasing!
Cool! I was thinking the bonus stages switch engaged the second lfo. Looks like something worth incorporating on my next Arcadiator ;D
2:24 in the demo is hilarious.
This is a seriously wonderful build.
All forms of YES! Love it, I'll add this to the ever growing build list. Excellent work as per sir!
Bonus stage!!
The face plate is super cool
Sweet, sweet, saweeeet!

Stellar Marko!
The riffage at 1:48 is just epic and wicked cool. Bravo sir.
haha cool that you guys are mentioning 02:24, yeah the other "solos" are mental as well this pedal is born to do the mind cringing solos, I just love it for that
@pryde, thank you man, I really appreciate it!
I missed this one here, but listened to the track on facebook: wicked!! (in a good way).
I'm in the lab waiting for a simulation to happen, and the poor contrast doesn't give it too much credit (I have a window in front and today is sunny), but the build looks awesome. Are those blue knobs on a yellow enclosure? dig it...
really dig it 8)
This is a fantastic looking build and sounds great too! That's it! You've sold me! I have to have one!!
wow dude... killer build and sounds! 8)
Damn man.. Damn.. :o
I love your builds but this a whole different level of badassery. Beautiful build.. Well done! ;)
thank you guys for your wonderful comments. I am so glad that I have increased the interest for this pedal even more. ben's layout is just a joy and it's worth every penny. I can't even begin to imagine these sounds coupled with a looper with a variable loop speed, or any delay after it, or as someone said, with an envelope filter after it...so many possibilities
EDIT: Huh!! My man must have read my thoughts, the pedal just got to my friend's and he sends me this picture labeled with "Daddy and son" :D

Hey
I just noticed this thread.

Wow! That is a great looking build, and the demo is just insane. :D
A LFO on the width pot was something I originally wanted (ala Escobedos PWM), but I decided to ditch it to keep the size of the circuit down. I'm pretty happy how many features I managed to squeese out of just three chips anyway. :P But it is indeed a nice extra feature. :)
I'm glad you like it!
cheers
Fredrik I am so glad you commented on this!
Thank you so much for developing this circuit it is insanely good and I have had countless hours of fun. It must feel good knowing you've put so many smiles on our faces :)

Dude... My wife just walked in a commented on how awful this sounded, which means: IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!! What a stellar build too and I absolutely love the demo. It's like taking Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age and putting them in a blender with a Nintendo console!

LOLz! You win the interwebz for today.
sweet! what is that thing next to the toggle switch, some sort of led?
Hey, that's a great demo and the 2nd LFO sounds like a great idea. Any chance you'd care to share how to wire up the 2nd LFO?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
absolutely, just give me until I can get home from work, I'll get right down to it
@LJangel, it's the amp jewel light, but, since it draws so much power I just replaced the bulb in there with an ultrabright LED, actually the guy that made the amp I'm using proposed I do so, he sometimes does it himself
@Stomptown, thank you man, I laughed very hard on your comment :D
Also very interested in pulling this off. Have the Arcadiator working. Just the LFO section from the Shoot the Moon?
sorry guys been crazy busy, I just got home and will draw the thingy asap
Okay guys I cooked this fast in Inkscape. So I think you'll manage fine, D1 and D2 are the pads for the potentiometer on board (you need two because lugs 2 and 3 are connected already on board). The LFO has the S1 and S2 pads on it (be it a vero or a pcb it makes no difference right) so once again you need just one lug of a pot and it's wiper.
The LFO outputs V1 and V2 which are the lugs of the LDR/vactrol.
Lugs P1 and P2 of the actual potentiometer will serve either instead of D1 and D2 when in Depth mode or instead S1 and S2 when in LFO mode, so you're using the pot that you would normally use with the arcadiator to control the speed of the LFO that outputs resistance that'll serve as a pot instead.
Do not forget to connect V2 to D2, wire the 3pdt as shown and you're golden. Have fun! :)
Oh, and NC on the 3pdt stands for not connected...
P.S. When building the STM LFO be sure to include the Wave pot/trimpot because it will have a large effect on getting the sweep as symmetrical as possible. Having it symmetrical only really matters with ultra slow speeds but most of the fun lies on faster speeds so, it's not crucial but I spent a ton of time on getting it there. Not sure about the right choice of the LDR here, I settled on one of the expensive Advanced Photonix univibe ones from smallbear that I had lying around, and to tell you the truth the Tayda one wasn't nearly as good. I used the ultra bright white LED here. Experiment, use your ears, and it will probably sound good at some point. I am anxious to hear your own demos of the thing, I know you'll have so much fun with this.
Thanks, I appreciate the time taken to write up the details of the mod. Looking forward to trying to replicate it. Just waiting for ICs and pots to arrive. I'll post up a build report when it's done.
Cheers

Thanks for the hook up help. New to actually laying out and vero-ing circuits, but trying to learn. I want to design a vero for the LFO board but want to make sure I understand what you did. I am thinking that I need all of the middle block that I've outlined in the schematic below, plus the ldr. The wave and Depth pots will be trimmers on the board, and the Speed pot is what I'm using the pot on the arcadiator board for. Then, hook up the lugs of the LDR to the switch as V1 and V2? Do I need all of the power filtering from the STM circuit?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You can omit R6, R7 and D1 from the part that you've highlighted in the schematics. Those are just there to give the indication of LFO speed.
The rest you got fine, it's as you have written it. You don't need the power filtering from the STM.
For a range of different speeds try out different polar caps in the LFO, I got the 47uF and 10uF on a switch for super slow and fast enough for me settings.
all of that said, I think that Rej at Grind Customs sells this exact modulation circuit on a fabbed board so you can save yourself some time and troubleshootin' and just get it from there. I would have done had I not been so impatient to try this out.
Let me know how it goes :)
Here's a video I'd promised. My friend, by his own admission, isn't really the right guy for doing this nintendo stuff hehe but he did fine although the bonus stage might have come across stronger had he held the Blend control lower in the mix
Still awesome 8)
Im getting a video has been removed message
EDIT: Should be okay now...
brilliant artwork and build! I couldn't see the coin slot though... ;)
