Title: Op-amp Big Muff
Post by: T_MBaker on July 06, 2011, 05:21:48 AM
G'day all,

I just finished putting together one of Haberdasher's op-amp boards.
I would have to say I'm pretty happy with it.
Built straight up to the specs in the build documents, with no problems there.
Haberdasher suggested that there might be a bit of noise, but as he pointed
out, it isn't any worse than an ordinary big muff. I didn't find it to be
any worse than my Green Russian clone and to be honest a bit of noise never
bothers me, adds to my tone!!
An interesting pedal in comparison to my Green Russian, doesn't seem to get
as muffled in certain knob positions, and it seems to be overall a bit louder. And,
they sound great stacked!!!
So, great PCB and easy build, so I'd definately encourage everyone to build one.

This wiring is neat, and the battery clip is really cool.
Thanks for sharing!

Hehe... know what you mean, using a gate can be counterproductive tone-wise... bring the noise!
Nice pedal :)

Hey alright man!  That came out very well and I'm glad you like it.

I see a 4558 in there....what did you use for your other opamp?

The only time I noticed a little noise in my build was with single coils (strat), but I A/B'ed it against my Triangle and the noise was on a par with it.  I really don't consider it a noisy fuzz circuit at all.

cheers

Looks great! I recieved one of those two! Keefe does very cleanly etched boards.

The other op-amp is just a 741 I had kicking around the parts box. I'm quite happy with
the sound of the pedal, but I might try some others at some point, just to see what happens.

Yeah, there is a little bit of sound with my telecaster, but nothing with my Epi.

Glad to see someone has finally built one of these things!
