found my way back to Ozric Tentacles latelyoh yeah I used to listen to that stuff all the time. far out man! spice doubt is my favorite of theirs. I've got a dvd of theirs somewhere. I gotta dig it out.
Listened to one of my favorite albums from the early 90's the other day, The Grays Ro Sham Bo (with Jason Falkner and Jon Brion). Reeeeally wish they had made a 2nd album.

I scored a copy of Television - Marquee Moon on vinyl the other day. Now constantly being spun in my apartment. So good.
You should really check Benn Jordan - Pale Blue Dot out if you enjoy Brian Eno. I bet you will love it.Love a bit of ambient music!
To me, it's the best ambient album ever created. Strong words I know. But it has been the sanctuary for me for at least 5 years now.
My boss running his mouth :-\
Here's a good oldie that popped up on my playlist
Jacob
Been revisiting a bunch of early King's X, Big Sugar, and the last two Max Webster albums. I get a Gamma jones on from time to time as well. I'm an old fart, what can I say.
I remember when Eric Gales was a 12 yo hendrix prodigy on the local news. He should have been huge. HUGE! But you must have the song people can't get out of their head. Eric Gales never scored that. sucks.Been revisiting a bunch of early King's X, Big Sugar, and the last two Max Webster albums. I get a Gamma jones on from time to time as well. I'm an old fart, what can I say.
Just heard the first track off the new Doug Pinnick/Eric Gales project. Going to be a killer album.
Jim Campilongo- all of his stuff is in rotation around here. I live everything he does, the fiance is enamored with the Little Willies (finally got to see them live, without having to travel to New York. They played the Roxy here in Hollywood.)
Been listening to Opeth's Black Water Park a bit lately. It's really quite good.Love love love Opeth

I was born in Torrance in 1963. Lived mostly in Fountain Valley and hung out in Huntington Beach. Moved to Nashville in 1980 and haven't looked back. Been visiting my 97 year old Grandma while here too. Been digging the weather since it is 90 and humid back home right now.
I've been listening to the whole Dying Fetus discography a lot lately...
It's brutal metal....but this clip makes it friendly! hahahaha
And as a bonus, Pickdropper is in the clip ;)
Leo Kottke... i just scored front row tickets to see this obviously alien guitar player.
I read a review in a magazine... I'm pretty sure it was Kottke... he plays fingerstyle and listens to that because a lot of his hearing disappeared in the Navy, and he wants to be careful of what is left of it.I was bummed out because I missed Tommy play here about a year or so ago. I made sure that don't happen with Leo.
It could be a different fingerstyle player.
Tommy Emmanuel is also a great fingerstyle player :)
Tame Impala is what I brought to work today. Makes me want to build a phaser!
Yes!
Lonerism is one of the best produced albums I've heard in years.
David Friedmann is a pretty amazing producer IMO.
The National's new album is out.
Brilliant lyrics, but I'm not sure its up to the same standard as their last effort, High Violet.
I'm hoping it's a grower ;)
His version of minor swing is pretty incredible, too. I think this will be "what I'm listening to" this morning. :)
The division bell, a fine pink Floyd album
I somewhat miss Derringer in the morning.
Jacob
Keeping with the Canadian theme, ever since I picked up a 12 string electric, "Heaven's Coming Down" by the Tea Party has been in heavy rotation. Man I miss seeing them live, something about three pieces, Tea Party, Rush, King's X......On a Canadian note I've recently discovered The Weakerthans and quite like them. Might be worth checking out if you're into the indie/rock of the north.
On the blues side, "Blues Deluxe" and "Had to Cry Today" by Joe Bonamassa are also in regular rotation on my drive to and from work (got to love Deerfoot in the morning).
cortex, I should have known I'd like this if you posted it. Thanks for turning me on to these guys.
I've watched this clip so many times over the years. Every time I'm still amazed.
If you haven't seen this guitar, you haven't lived. He inspired Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, BB King, Pete Townsend... you get the idea.
Haven't seen these guys around here:
saw them at a small club in my home town Utrecht last year, they kicked ass! My throat was soar from singing along to this very song. That is one cool chorus!!!
Paul
My 4 year old whining because I will not allow him to play with my Starscream statue.

What on earth was that reed style digital instrument that guy in the Yellowjackets was playing! Soooo cool! I can totally imagine hooking that up to midi and being able to play incredibly diverse sounds with it.
Jacob
The Nine Inch Nails soundtrack to Quake 1. So atmospheric... similar to Eno's Ambient 4, but in a more industrial direction.
That's an awesome band name.
Also, I thought it would be like something crazy, but then the youtube finally loaded, and then I saw that was the band name. Didn't take away, just made me smile.
This Will Destroy You
Reminds me of "Aural Method" and "Lowercaise Noises", both groups that I discovered recently and liked quite a lot.

I've had the opportunity to see robin live, in a small club. He is still phenomenal.
just the best Strat sound in the world
Annual free street fest, got to see this guy again for the first time in 23 years, Thurston Moore and his new band... then off to see Yo La Tengo. So many bands and not possible to see anywhere near all of them, four stages.
sonny is awesome
Well that was pretty incredible. I have a couple of his CD's, but seeing it this way is different. It's kinda like Jeff Beck where his control allows him to do things that just aren't reasonable.

I am not worthy to hold a guitar.
Just finished watching King Crimson live in France, 1982. Discipline tour.Fripp's comments starting at about 22:40 and through 26:15. I've also seen a couple of other interviews with him and read some where he talks about where he started in music and how he developed. I find it very interesting to hear how he views himself.
I am not worthy to hold a guitar.
who is that? And how can that guy sing on a tour without losing his voice? :P

"AL" is an acronym for Adán Luis, my real name, not Alberto... (my gf uses to call me Al and I thought it sounds quite better) . I'm not the guy playing in this video (although I wish to play like him).
Sorry for the confusion. :D
I saw this kid at Gearfest in June. He won Australia's Got Talent a couple years ago when he was 19 I think. I was impressed.lC3JfdOjUISe3jR

Yes, it's slow getting up to speed but worth it. He plays with a trio and just kills. His live performance I saw was phenomenal.
Glad I made it past the intro, that kid rips. Very reminiscent of early Jon Mayer, where he was still innovating a little bit. Hope he makes it.
Jacob
He wasn't always physically "on it",Yeah but, that's part of the whole package that I love about him, the human part of it. Also I've tried playing my guitar slung that low, he must have crazy long arms or something because it's not something even remotely possible for me without being a sloppy mess.
I love that album.
... and back to our regularly scheduled programming. Early 70's heavy rock trio, bass was played on organ pedals. All members now gone.
turn on the bright lights by interpol has made it back in to my rotation... great album.

Let's get weird. I've probably watched this 100 times.
We can do weird. (The insane part, though, is that this was all coded by hand, it is not responding to the music through algorithms.)
HaveYouSeenHim - your avatar and the DRI and SI clips make me think about the old Powell/Peralta videos. Indirectly, those old skate videos and their music led me to doing this hobby now, about 25 years later.
Since we are headed down the weird path, here's a little seasonal music
[...];D They are pretty incredible -- they get bonus points just for the name. Fuze is something else as a player. I really like his work with Hiromi's Sonicbloom too.
I can't believe there are people here listening to one of the most underrated bands EVER. RobA I've loved your posts before but now...dude you have become my favorite beaner! Cheers!
Absolutely. Hiromi is a genius, and when she thinks that only Fuse could up the game of her trio then that says a lot.Yeah, she pretty much blows my mind whenever I listen to her. I have their concert DVD and it is amazing to watch.
SHT totally rocks! plus Fiuczynski is a really nice guy.
A friend of mine was his student at berklee and now is mixing Fuze's new album.
I can't wait to hear it.
Davent, there's always the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Rocks album. Also if you're into punk, the Vandals "Oi To The World" album is great.

To me one of the great innovators on the guitar. This is one of my favorites of all music,
All day today, their album has been on repeat
Despite Vitalogy being my first, and largely one of my favourite albums of all time, there's a certain amazingness to Pearl Jam's "Vs". If you've never listened to it, it's one of the brightest spots of the early 90s, and you should.
Ed Sheeran! That dude is talented! 8)

More watching, really. Got a few episodes off a friend, and so far I have three huge conclusions.
One, it should have been called "Morbid Cr/p and Oddities".
Two, there are some unusual people out there.
Three, New York has some VERY unusual people.
I don't know if there are many jazz lovers here, but yesterday I was lucky to attend to a concert of this awesome trio:I finally remembered to come back and watch this. Excellent!
Perfect execution and refined taste. One of the best actual jazz trios for me (and these are big words).
Karma To Burn.
Loved 'em for many, many years, actually :)
Wait, yeah I remember who headlined - CoC from Raleigh! I think I saw them 8-9 times. My friends and I were big time devotees.
If there's one song you should listen to while building pedalsThis totally reminds me of the band I was in with the guitar player from The Adolescents. They are called Cavemen Voicebox.
This is the song!
You might know this song, but this is a cover version by Belgian band De Staat, they rock.
Paul
(in a couple of shots, you can see a boat load of pedals, I'll see if I can find out what the guy uses!!)

I don't know if I have talk about this group before, but you have to listen to 'Screaming Headless Torsos', little more acid, but I think you could love them :)
I love this song. Whenever I think of it I end up listening on repeat which I rarely do. Incredible emotion.

If anyone knows about a band that's THAT much rooted in funk, and still have the guts to improvise, do an occasional punk riff and uses odd time signature hahaha, please let me know! This comes to mind.
I can't get past Jason Isbell for the last 6 months. This is songwriting. The guy is actually a pretty a amazing slide player as well, if you get hankering to check him out.
Maybe this one?
You know what I love as well. JESU. Please tell me guys you love Jesu.

OMG the plethora of excellent "music to code by" this week is amazing.
Stumbled on this one today from a youtube related item
jerry reed and chet atkins
right...they can play the dogshit out of their music but it never seems forced or showy. total mastery. lenny breau is like that toojerry reed and chet atkinsI can thank my dad for all the Chet Atkins exposure when I was younger. I loved the stuff he did with Mark Knopfler. I like when Chet talks and carries conversation when playing. He makes everything sound so casual.
Cody
Restoring my faith in the next generation.
Kids covering Tool's 46 & 2, which has got to be one of the toughest things to cover well and they are awesome. I like the way the kid gets Maynard's vocal nuances, and that little smile she gives when she nails it. The drummer is really into it.
Marr just rocks this. My favorite Smiths song.
Jacob
There's only one song out officially right now, but the album drops on the 14th of March and from what I've heard thus far, it will be in heavy rotation for me.Cool, I'll check this out! And remember one thing, hair does not equal chops, believe me, I know.......
The band is KXM - George Lynch, Doug Pinnick (King's X), and Ray Luzier (Korn). The music is as good or better then Dogman, which is my favourite King's X album hands down. The drumming is insanely tribal, and George is, well, George.
There's another Lynch project coming out later this year with Michael Sweet (Stryper). That is going to be some killer old school shred metal. If only I could grow my hair back as opposed to my back hair.
and... just for kicks... even though their version of marble madness is killer...
For me... this week is all about St. Paul & the Broken Bones. Saw them last summer at Muscian's Corner in Nashville, and their live show is awesome. Their full-length finally dropped this week and it does not disappoint.
Just curious really ;D
I've been listening to lots of June of 44, Slint, The Shipping News & The For Carnation. I like all sorts of stuff, but i seem to go through phases with in my listening habits. Right now its post-rock / mathy stuff. I guess mostly because just started a new band that's in that vein, and thats where my mind is at right now

Ian, have you listened to Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears? They are a fantastic live show.
Loving that Black Breath album ever since it went out. Great stuff, it is rarely that I like a heavy album nowadays because everything sounds so overproduced and just copied and already heard, but that one I liked.

Cool, same thing here... most of the metal i listen too is stuff from 1998 to 2005... everything after is not music, but production. Couple band get out of the lot, but they are rare, sadly. That's why i'm a lot into GrindCore, Krust and all out fuzzy doom/sludge/stoner... it's raw! :)
Listening to Tame Impalas Lonerism again.
There's just something about that record I love. The production is outstanding.
After guitar geeks everywhere were trying to figure out how he got all those cool tones, it also turns out he DI'd most of the guitars for the album ;D
i cant find tame impalas, or the dark soul album.....but good lord, St Paul and the Broken Bones! Wow, these guys are bringing real soul back.
I listen to 90's rock and post grunge mostly. Right now I'm on a Chevelle kick.
Going with some heavier stuff today.

Ill refraining from sharing death or doom metal as I don't think there are many here that would go for that sort of music, heres one that's a little more on the heavy rock side. This album has stuck with me since it was released,

My sister HATES it by now, but I love Earth's track "Like Gold And Faceted", from Earth 2. It's like heavy metal meditation.
Posting about best gigs on BYOC made me remember just how good these guys are.I (and my son) fxxking LOVE Radiohead
So many cool interesting parts, tones and melodies going on in this song.
Sublime...
I saw Earth when they came to Wellington last year/year before maybe?mine also. But it's running a close race with angels of darkness 1
Interesting set, and an unappreciative crowd who just wanted to be blasted will walls of noise.
The newer stuff a bit more subtle, eh. Still heavy as fuck though.
"The bees made honey in the lions skull" is prob my favourite album of theirs

I hate to be a skeptic, but something makes my ear say, "MELODYNE!" in those thick, dissonant chords. In any case, it's a much better use of time than picking on his little sister or scribbling on the walls. Bravo.
Favourite bit is the kick-assintroplaying throughout by Page. Hate it when it gets muted slightly for the voiceovers!

Radiohead, loud, through nice big bassy cans, so as not to wake sleeping kids.you just can't go wrong with the bends or ok computer. phenomenal records.
It's been a while since I dug their albums out, my oh my they're good. Glad I did.

Building to some Uncle Acid tonight. That album is good building or running from the cops music ;)

Saw him tonight in their normal trio configuration ... it's getting tougher and tougher to see him for free (for good reason). Probably my favorite male local singer. I can't express how jealous I am of his voice.
The part where he stops playing for a smoke made me laugh.

They are unique. Probably I will never experience wedding like that, that is something (Y)
One of my favorites. I was at a wedding last weekend that played a lot of DCD. It fit well, I think.
Been a Deftones fan since 95. Love these guys!
I was thinking about Chi and had to share it...
Thanks for the heads up on this!
The weedians return!
Mate from work loaned me Jakob's self-titled CD. Bloody hell this is good stuff, groove for days here!
Also loaned me Twang! A Tribute To Hank Marvin And The Shadows. Blackmore and May's tracks were quite underwhelming, especially compared to Knopfler and Iommi.
Just discovered these guys a couple of days ago. They were playing at a venue not too far from me, but I couldn't make the show. I looked them up on the 'tube to see if they'd be worth going to see. I've pretty much been sitting here listening and blown away since.
I like some Converge and old Norma Jean «noise core» stuff... last week as i was scrolling in an old external HD i stumbled on this album that i had totally forgot... some might say that it was a good thing to forget it.... but i just can't stop listening to it.
The intro is realllllly long, once it kicks in.. it KICKS! Love that stuff.. very dark and some of the riffing is plain amazing (for the genre).
Went to San Sebastian to see this guys on Wednesday:Nice! I bet it was very much worth it. According to Wiki, they've got about 40 members, and they are tight with a groove. It had to be a great show. The drummer kills it.
What a band! Astounding cohesion, tempo and feeling, plus they know how to make the audience move.
I slept in the car, but it was worth.
Rarely pay any attention to lyrics but Patterson Hood's stories and characters are too delicious to ignore, also love the splatty compressed guitar that weaves it's way throughout.
Man, Bill Frisell is my favourite guitarist with no doubt (and my gf loves him too!). I can wait for his new disc to be released:

The second clip, OTOH, is not available "in your country". I've never understood the rationale behind that -- all I get is this xenophobic "We kant let dem faahners a-listen tah AUR mooo-sic!"

I'm only 5 minutes in, but I'm not sure "there's a tune in it."
:D, I'm at 12 minutes in now. I think there's a tune there. It's just very slow. I think I'm going to have to find the lyrics though. The pace is too much for my aging brain to remember the words from the beginning of a line to the end.I'm only 5 minutes in, but I'm not sure "there's a tune in it."
Hah, you type to someone who likes both Autechre and Motorhead. I never claimed to be consistent in my musical likes.
I couldn't watch the second Frisell vid either. I'd be interested to know what it was.
This one is great,

The impression that movie and music has given me is that Alabama is where Americans do illegal things (like hooch and ganja), and the only honest person there is Forrest Gump. Alabama must be a very rough town.
this:Both of these are great. The second one made recall these guys that I came across a few years back,
and this:
I want to build a lapsteel guitar now!! any suggestion?

I'm really digging these guys, what a cool sound they have all around.
Good stuff, Micro. I dig that quite a bit. 8)
Micro, you might like these guys..They just came out with a great live album also. I really dig them. I still can't believe this album is from 2012.

Quite liking this! What genre is it? Blues/Jazz? I love how mellow it is, but kinda dark, with excellent groove.
Been enjoying this album during tonights builds.Well that led down a rabbit hole that now has me into 60's and 70's Thai Funk. Yes, that's a thing. Here's some...

I love all the retro-soul bands that are out there now. I saw that others already posted about St. Paul and the Broken Bones, but I saw them last night at the Paradise in Boston. Reminds me of the soul band I was in back in high school in the 60s. They even opened and closed with 2 songs we did - Sly's "Sing a Simple Song", and Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness". Great show.

One of best albums ever!
I just can't get enough of Sturgill Simpson these days. Excite to see him open up for Jason Isbell (i've posted before), this Sunday at The Ryman. Thanks for that! Beautiful song. I was just thinking tonight about the sad state of modern country so it's refreshing to hear this guy.
I have had this song stuck in my head all day...I have no idea why!!! :o

The new Mono album(s) are out. I got myself the 150 piece limited marble-look edition on vinyl. Very classy exterior and killer sounds. Love it.
Check it out, if you like instrumental post rock.

Finally got to headphone both of their new albums and I must say, I loved every minute of them. They still have it.. The subtle intros to the crashing epic finals. I have been a huge fan for years and will continue to.

Nice to hear. I just got them in the post today so I have only listened to the albums once. I kinda dislike the screamo-guest-"singer" on rays of darkness though... Besides that, pure bliss
Just discovered these guys. I love instrumental sometimes.
I was googling for reviews, before, and came across the most pointless bloody lyric page I've seen in a long time.

Nu-Metal buzz... lol
The bass line in that song is pretty cool... gives all the melody to the heavyness...
Machine Head... listened to that album way too much when younger. Total abuse of FX in that song but really well blended in the guitar lines.... and... Groovy!!!
And this... probably the best punk/hardcore album of the 90's... from wich there's still plenty of influences heard in todays music... such ground breaking in that time.
It's a very cold, dreary, rainy day in Nashville, which means I'm listening to one of my favorite records to listen to on cold, dreary, rainy days.
The first time I heard it, I just 'Meh.' Now I cannot get this out of my head. Been playing along this afternoon. Gah.Same here. I had started watching a gig on youtube and found them very boring, then later stumbled on another one that was really great, was probably shot better ... I find it really cool that he is gigging with his boy.

I can't believe it's been 10 years! Another good man killed for no good reason...
Rockin Girl duo!
Do they have bogans outside New Zealand?
One man, one guitar and a tape echo with a song called Big Muff circa 1978... just brilliant, belongs in here.Very cool! I dig the duct taped pickup too ;D
Saw John Martyn in a dingy basement club in Toronto in the early '80's.
Music I listen to while writing code:Oww, a whole list! I may have to go write a bunch of code just so I can listen along.
Good stuff, this thread is.I enjoyed that, time to check some others.
I just discovered this band about two weeks ago and they quickly rose to the top of my playlist. The guitar player, Josh Martin, is incredible. You can listen to all their songs at their website. http://www.littletybee.com/ (http://www.littletybee.com/)
Here's a youtube vid. I'm through and through a metal/heavy rock/classic rock/stoner dude by nature, but I think traveling around in a hippy bus as a child with my parents to Grateful Dead and bluegrass shows is starting to come to light. The guitar player reminds me of this new wave of techy prog-metal players, but he does it in a way that melds really well with this folky/rippin' stuff. Basically everything I like in a cute, well defined package. Enjoy!
Oooh, like that. 8)
ok, i do like that. might have to pick it up somewhere.
A Swedish band that I discovered just couple of weeks ago. What a great sludge rock band! Amazing fuzz tones throughout, great solos, inspiring singing and the production is just right for this type of music. Enjoying em a lot as of late.
Love M. John Hurt! If you've picked up an acoustic in the south you've probably learned some version of John Henry. There are a ton of great versions and variations out there and people take words from it all the time for other songs.
The train of logic was listening to _Drive By Truckers_' "The Day John Henry Died", and wondering who else did a song about him.
Listening to Joe Robinson's CD I bought after seeing him live at Gearfest this weekend. CD's ok but live he was outstanding.
no guitar, but the most interesting mix of influences i've heard in a loooooong time. refreshing and absolutely great according to me (warning, jazz content)

I've had my last few days continuously interrupted by an ongoing DIY furnace repair (finally completely fixed), so I've only been able to listen to about half of it so far, but I think it's pretty incredible. I'd love to see them in person.

If you like these guys you have to like Snarky Puppy too. I saw them play live past year and it was awesome, people actually danced to their music!! in a Jazz concert!! :P
There are many great jazz festivals in france btw, and no so expensive.

Nice! Killer band from Quebec... if you go back 8 or 9 years ago, my band 112Kills rehearsal room was in a complex where they also had a studio running by my good friend Yannick St-Amant (Despised Icon). In the time we had our local there, he had recorded 2 of the Despised Icon album, one Ion Dissonnance and the first full length album of Beneath the Massacre after their first EP. Our band was essentially a mix of Cephalic Carnage/Origin/DyingFetus/Suffocation... and we would be there jamming every damn day.... all the guys in those bands where chilling in our local drinking/smoking.. relaxing you know... and we would get to jam with them... DespisedIcon singers would come jam with us before they do their track and we would also help BTM drummer to heat up before his tracking time... very good times that was. Most brutal era of my life! ;D

Damn Rej! I knew those guys were from your neck of the woods but I didn't realize there would be such an awesome story tying you to them! That must have been a lot of fun! I remember seeing BTM on the summer slaughter tour in 2009 and they were Great! I was so pumped to see Necrophagist that night but I was working at a summer camp at the time and there was a midnight curfew and we had to drive from albany back into the catskills. Plus I had my nose broken in the pit during Winds of Plague. lol. I had two black eyes and my face was so swollen. Good times! lol.
And for a while I had Immaculate from Despised Icons first album as my ringtone in high school. It's amazing the looks you get when your phone goes off and there are gutteral vocals coming out instead of a ringer. lol. Since then I have kinda fell out of the scene but miss those days of going to shows.

After all that time i'm still involved in those events, working as a tech... i don't think i could stop going there, the raw energy of those concerts can't be found anywhere else.
So this whole thing made me think of the old days (rofl), around 2001-2002 i was playing in a BlackMetal band called Cryptik Howling, with them i played a good load of concert, recorded a 2 song demo and actively participated to the writing of their first album. I then sold the bass rig i had to a bassman i had choosen (that was funny), thought him all the songs and got him ready for studio... as i was suppose to move in MTL with my gf and it then fucked up with her...... lol
Anyway, i'm a bit shy now of those songs... but back 10-12 years, i was very proud of what i was doing there.
This first one, i wrote entirely other than the closing riff...
Was lots of fun with the corpse paint and blood spitting on stage... lml

Just some really good pop rock. These guys are going places.
Fun fact for anyone who listened to CCM music over the last few decades, the singer and drummer are two of Steven Curtis Chapman's kids.
Saw PILE last night in Louisville and it pretty much ruled. I don't listen to a lot of this loud stuff these days, but these guys are excellent enough to be the exception. I can't figure out the code to embed a video, but its worth your time to check them out. This is a track from their new record...

Great cover Brane!
This one is my favourite Pink Floyd song ever! it really gives me the chills.
I usually leave the radio at work set to someone's private station (run out of their shed), since it's a good mix of old pop, rock, a *little* bit of rap and reggae, and the odd modern pop song.
Got quite a surprise when the Stones' "Star Star" came on -- with an uncensored chorus! :o
I'm just saying, how much trouble would you be in with the thought police in the USA if you had a song on the radio with a chorus of "Star f-cker, star f-cker" repeated a lot?
Lisa Gerrards live rendition of this song left goose bumps down my spine. She has the most amazing singing voice i have ever heard.
_The Serpent's Egg_, _Toward The Within_, and _Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun_ are three of my favourite Dead Can Dance albums.

Beatles Revolver Album
Simply a triumph
Brilliant album (their best?).
This is from around the same time... I wonder where Liam Gallagher got his singing style from ;)
Its that song that made me start realizing how great the Beatle's bass lines usually are, and make me wish I could have that recorded bass tone on tap when I need it.
Nice one Cortexturizer. They certainly did!
Let's get this thread going again. We lost a ton of great posts. I always like visiting this thread for new jams. Onward and upward.

Pere Ubu isn't for everybody, but they are for me.
@add4, you have excellent taste. I love Tigran and Helix Nebula. Cheers! 8)
I also have a Bjork fixation. Her music gives me goosebumps, her videos give me goosebumps on top of goosebumps.
Your little girl has excellent taste just like her daddy. Vespertine is my favorite Bjork album. The official Pagan Poetry video is NSFW, because Bjork is a bad b*tch who doesn't give a f*ck. I love her.
My 4 year old niece also loves Bjork. When I go see Acacia I always put on this video. Thankfully Acacia (neice) and Cady (my little sister/her mom) always approve of Bjork, even if the subject matter can be a little dark. Throwing your body off a cliff just to hear what it sounds like isn't exactly kid friendly but the video is beautiful, also one of my favorite Bjork songs of all time.
Somewhat relevant to what we do, here is Bjork talking about her TV/electronics in 1988 I believe.
The way she talks is fascinating. She doesn't even need to sing, I could just listen to her talk all day. She is sooooo cool man. Ridiculously cute.
That's why you shouldn't let poets lie to you.
I take it everyone else "misses that left toin at Alba-koi-kee", then? :)
Can't go wrong with Josh Homme either. Looking forward to his collaboration with Iggy Pop.

Been listening to Esperanza Spalding's newest release for a bit now.
There isn't a ton of soloing on the album itself, but the live videos have some jams. This also put Matthew Stevens on my map, and I've been listening to his solo album as well.
Really like the new Radiohead track.
Those strings are really nice (Jonny Greenwood to a tee).
Video is also very cool, though pretty disturbing. Postman Pat and Wicker man mashup ;D
I just watched the Ken Burn's Jazz Documentary in it's entirety for the first time. When I initially watched it, around the time of it's release, I only caught bits and pieces. If you haven't seen this documentary, then you should. I've been stocking up on Jazz albums to jam with ever since.
Thom Yorke is starting to look rather old :o
New Radiohead album :)
So far, so good. I definitely prefer it to King of Limbs.
There is some really nice production going on (not many guitars mind).
This video is directed by PT Anderson (There Will be Blood etc.). Thom Yorke is starting to look rather old :o

I was listening to the two Caspian live albums over and over yesterday. Such great performers. I very much recommend this band to everyone, especially those of you that are into postrock. And if you already know the band, get the "Live at larcom" Blu-Ray. Fantastic.
Very long intro part here, the real song starts at about 6:00
I can't seem to get away from the instrumental post rock stuff...not that its a bad thing.

Its funny Bret, when I'm listening to the cd there is spot in track 7 where I STILL anticipate the song to end prematurely (to flip the tape!). Those were the days. I also think I'm getting old :(
Protest the Hero really rustled my jimmies the first time I heard them. Kezia blew me away. Never could get into Fortress beyond Bloodmeat and Sequoia Throne and still need to give 3 & 4 a listen. I read that Chris Adler drummed on their recent album, what a combination!
Another post-rock band for you. These guys are a bit of a different flavor tho. Enjoy!

I'm 35, but was lucky to get introduced to music in the early 90's. I grew up as an grunge kid, and listened to a lot of the great alternative bands of that era. But somehow, I never really listened to Dinosaur Jr. I was able to see them live in Omaha in a tiny club a couple of months ago. 1. It's the loudest show I have ever been to; if you ever see a rig rundown from J. Mascis, all of those amps are really on, whether it's at an outdoor festival or a 500 person club. 2. The guitar chops, the killer bass, the hard hitting drumming; it's like the perfect storm for me. The the crazy thing is that since they've gotten back together, all of the music they're recording is top notch.
So here's to happily finding a band I missed in my youth.
I'm 35, but was lucky to get introduced to music in the early 90's. I grew up as an grunge kid, and listened to a lot of the great alternative bands of that era. I stopped listening to commercial radio in the early '90's so i'm still discovering a lot of music from the 'dark years' that i really enjoy and am adding to my collection. It was commercial radio/dj's i hated back then and still do, and not the music, commercial radio just ruined it for me.

Perfection
Over Fathers day I helped my Mom transfer a bunch of her old vinyls to CD (real hack job, but good enough for a car CD player). So if anyone is interested in the early 70s Los Angeles Irish/Celtic Folk scene, I got the hook up!
FTP link?
I don't have an FTP handy, but give me a little bit, I'll see what I can figure out
Grabbed my copy of the new Queens of the Stone Age album this evening. Loving the stripped down production on this one.
About 12 different flavors of cocked wah/harmonic energizer/frequency boost in that tone.
Incredible stuff from the Bill Evans trio.
I have this collection on CD. It's just been released on vinyl.

I found this collection on CD a few years back. Brilliant stuff, and Scott LaFarro was taken from us too soon.

thanks for bringing this to my attention. Purchased it last week and been listening to it quite a bit
How did I make it to 44 without listening to Killing Joke? This has got some good stuff.

Some old Stabbing Westward albums. Over the top angst with synth and metal guitar, but done incredibly well with some really good lyrics.
_Darkest Days_ is probably the best one to start with. Just DON'T let anyone who is depressed or in a bad place mentally listen to it.

WOW Throw back to 8th grade! I used to listen to Darkest Days and Wither, Blister, Burn, and Peal quite a bit. Super angst powers unite!
I've had a hankering for stoner/space rock for a while now and I stumbled across the Stoned Meadow of Doom channel that showcases a bunch of bands that you might never hear of. Some great stuff on this channel!
The Stoned Meadow channel is always on an open tab for me. What else would I listen to while building a new fuzz?
I found this cover of Toto and it sounds great! :)
Leonard Cohen's track, "You Want It Darker", is utterly, absolutely, and in all ways amazing.
About two day's worth of Alfred Schnittke, mostly his cello compositions. Probably the most consistently "terrifying" art music I've ever heard. The guy had a real flair for absurdity and dissonance (not just in terms of "these notes don't belong together" but also with the rhythms).
'Death From Above' talk pedals and bass

Slow doom groove Tuesday.
This one is for every self-promoting journalist that tries to sound intellectual by writing articles about how "guitar rock is dead" and "kids want electronic music". Then these kids bust in the room:
I'm a man who's sick
But I got class
'Coz you only get respect
When you're kickin' ass
Felix, just picked up my tickets to see This will Destroy You, in Nov here in Fresno, CA. Really looking forward to seeing them!
This made me almost spit out my coffee at work the other dayWe need more of it! The band is called "Charamel"
I'm a big fan of stoner rock and have tried to get on with Electric Wizard, and I just can't. For some reason it just pushes it's thing that little bit too far.
The new Prodigy sounds interesting. Word has it, the best album since Fat of the Land.
