Title: NGD: I took a gamble and it paid off
Post by: Stomptown on April 15, 2018, 09:18:32 AM
So I pulled the trigger on a 2018 Les Paul Classic body and neck from Stratosphere (no affiliation) after falling in love with the guitar at Guitar Center last month.  I was pretty nervous about potential issues with the guitar but it came as described in mint condition with no issues! The guitar retails at $2,299.00 but I was able to buy all the parts and put it together for $1400.  All the hardware, etc. came off the guitar or another 2018 LP Classic except for the Grover tuners (I'm not a fan of the kidney style tuners that come on the guitar) so it is pretty much stock. I also replaced the truss rod cover with a blank cover for a more I vintage look. I need to get it set up but it plays great and the neck is perfect.  The P90s sound really nice for stock pups.  I was initially going to use a set of P90s that Timbo wound for me but I couldnt find covers that fit the routing AND has the correct pole spacing.  So here are the pics:

Beautiful!  That's my favorite combo: gold top/P-90's

Just beautiful.

I love my goldtop (although it's got buckers, not P90s).

Wow that's beautiful!

That’s a guitar worth looking at a few times.
I just had to look at it again...
I have an epi gold top that is a remarkable guitar (swapped out the PUs and Nut) but not a guitar as pornful as yours.

There's just something about goldtops! This looks as perfect as can possibly be man. I'm definitely feeling a bit jealous over this one.

Honestly I'm not a Les Paul person, I've nevee thought about buying one. but there's something about a Les Paul with p90's that's just cool.

Congrats man seems like it was a sweet deal.

For whatever reason LPs just work for me.  I couldn't play a strat to save my life!  My initial goal was to get a new workhorse Les Paul to replace my 1972 Custom.  Ive has that guitar for 25 years and absolutely love it but I'm getting more and more reluctant about taking it out of the house.  Plus the frets are considerably worn down. In the end I fell in love with the P90s when I was trying out the different models so I went with that.  Unfortunately it's not a substitute for a humbucker LP so I'm finding I need both guitars to cover the material I'm playing with my band. So basically I need "one more" guitar and I will be set.  :P

Funny. I also need exactly one more guitar.
