I used to work from this diy workstation i made to build from my recording desk. it wasnt long before things got crowded. Parts everywhere, things falling over and builds became tedious. I was unorganized and my fun hobby was becoming a chore. So the past couple weeks I have been rearranging my "guitar" work bench and turned it into my all in one workstation for pedals.
Being a true diy champion and being on a budget, if i couldnt get it cheap or get what fit my needs I made it.

I have an all in one solder spool and iron holder/tip cleaner that I seperated to make feeding solder easier

I made this parts holder for builds. makes populating boards super easy and the work flow is great. its foam with aluminium for the tape to stick to.

but my newest addition is my homemade rotating pcb holder with removable helping hands and solder exhaust fan. look at all the lead and flux I'm not breathing anymore all in the carbon filter.

I'm really happy so far with it all but I know that soon I'll have changes to make but so far so good. Lets see what you guys are working with so I can get some more ideas and inspiration.

Hey, what a neat space to work in! Love your PCB holder, very handy looking. The filter on a a gooseneck clip idea is great, my extractor always seems so far from the action to be much use. Kudos, thanks for sharing

Thanks to the positive influence of our own dan.schumaker, my workspace is essentially the empty tray two-thirds of the way up this rack, which I load up with whatever I am presently working on (my Aquaboy Deluxe build at the moment).

Well here's mine.... Feeling totally blessed to have a decent space in the garage these days. I Used to solder PCBs in a small corner of the bedroom of our tiny house, and drill enclosures on the kitchen table. Not much happens in winter for me anymore however, it gets pretty cold out here. That's an AB763 in very slow progress on the bench. :)

You know what, looking at that pic again... I just found my Bluetooth speaker! ;D
some great ideas and its great to see that less is more sometimes.
I am so jealous of all you other guys' workstations.

Going to have to clean up some ... been busy and the work area shows it
As soon as one of the other two bugger off and get their own place, I'm turning one of my bedrooms into a studio/workbench. I've got a spare PC ready to go, a 20ch mixer, the works. (I have my own house, and my brother and sister board with me.)
You really want to see it? Ok then....
I fully approve of your organization style :)
Tucked away in one corner of my living room, wish i had more space :(

I've seen those PCB jigs before - where did you get it?
My workstation is basically the same as always. There's something quite special being worked up on the bench though!

It's an Ideal-tek PCSA1 PCB mount.
Expensive, but worth every cent. :)
I got mine from Conrad. Farnell and digikey also sells it.
I have a total shit-sty of a work space. Just can't seem to keep 'er organized and neat. Doesn't stop the magic, granted, but it does take longer. ;D
I have a room that should be a guest room, but... there's no space for guests ;D

Inside there are music stuff, bike parts, all kind of tools...
My girlfriend says that I took over all the space, but there are also her clothes waiting to be ironed.
This is my desk. A friend of mine defined it the "MacGyver's desk" :D

cleaned up the recent shipping garbage and assimilated all the crap from my cube at my former job ... halfway usable now
Posting pics of mine would feel like confession. It's way too messy for me to be able to show anyone right now.

Oh my. We need to get you some storage bins!
For anyone that wants to claim their space is messy, this used to be me (slightly over a year ago):

Haha! I'm sure I would have accidentally put my iron into one of those boxes and torched the whole thing by accident.

I will confess that my sense of smell has alerted me that a foreign object intruded into the place for my soldering iron on at least one occasion. ::)
My favorite thing about that pic is the cardboard box at the very bottom. It is labeled "Eric stuff", which must have been a very desperate attempt to suggest order in the chaos. ;D

All I see in this pic is a beautiful Hakko 888-D and some assorted confetti. Love my Hakko!
That isn't a mess. That's proof that things get done there.

Love my Hakko too! *high five*
Felt kind of bad for them after I ordered a second soldering tip directly from them (well, directly from their US presence). They actually called me up and asked if there was ANYTHING else they could do for me or my company (no, they didn't say it in a lustful voice or anything). The rep probably started rattling off a detailed sales pitch--I can't fully remember. It seemed like I really let them down when I revealed myself to be a hobbyist (their choice of word).
Still, top notch soldering station, even though I've never changed it from its default setting of 750 soldering magic units (must be degrees or something; I judged by the results that it seemed an appropriate enough number and never worried about it afterward :P).

I run mine full tilt (899) all day Monday through Saturday, on my second tip, always impressed at how it handles heavier stuff with ease, Tele basplate ground wires, tremolo claw ground wires, humbucker covers, eats it all up.
I love mine too but I wish it just had the older analog knob instead of the buttons. I realized shortly after I got it that the memory settings isn't a feature that's useful to me. I do most stuff around 560 or so and crank it to 700 when I need to dump in some heat.
I forgot to add to this.. this is my new bench during the summer months here in Hell, CA.

I need to get a nice place to put my parts box's. As of now, I just bring in the bins I need and it really slows down the process.

When I got into pedalmaking in 2013 with a Rangemaster (thanks, Brian!), this was my workspace.
I'm making sixteen band EQs, MS10 VCFs, and I'm still working with maybe 400x150mm space.
I'm still jealous of all you guys with dedicated workstations with room to set up all your gear. My o'scope only gets taken out when I actually need it :/
My gigantic workbench is still not big enough. No room to do any soldering at the moment. Bench has been invaded by the $200 Rhodes Mk1 88 key that I almost had done before I picked up a $180 Wurlitzer 145 and there's not even room for it. I had to use the top of my Hammond M3 as a second bench. Soldering junk is in the shelves above. PCB/electronic junk is stored inside in the boxes and bags I got from Tayda/Mouser.
Another view
And the other side
Dining room table and garage for me
Cleared up a corner of the garage and set up this little soldering station. No more resin fumes in the bedroom. The picture looks deceptively tidy as I haven't yet used it in anger. Note the magnifying desk lamp and activated carbon filter driven by an old PC fan, two of the things I consider absolutely essential for this caper.
Is that a little computer fan with a filter in front of it?

Yes indeed. Probably not as good as a real exhaust system, but better than nothing, I would imagine. Fumes go in, air comes out.

That's a very resourceful idea, DIY all the way.
