Title: Vfe zener cap combination. I can’t see what’s going on there on both the Tractor Beam and Bumble Bee

Vfe zener cap combination. I can't see what's going on there on both the Tractor Beam and Bumble Bee. Is the cap just paralleled with the zener?

It's a cheap voltage regulator. The combination is used to make reference and bias voltages for the JFETs. You wouldn't want to use a resistor divider there because the supply voltage can fluctuate with battery life or different DC supplies. The parallel cap it to reduce noise on the VREF.
