Title: Touchstone and DS-1
Post by: Thewintersoldier on September 11, 2020, 04:05:30 PM
Going back to 91 for some Nevermind tones lol The touchstone sounds great. Sockets for the early 80s values scruffie gave and I did the vibrato switch like Bio77. Easy build and love Brian's new board layouts for jacks, so clean. I like the values scruffie gave as it gives it a little more wiggle and that's always a plus in my book, makes my CE-2 seem so boring and bland.

Aion DS-1 because I had a late 80s boss back in the day but ended up lending it to a friend in highschool who moved and never gave it back. My replacement didn't sound as good and I moved it on. This one is  vintage stock, no mods and it reminds me of my old 80s unit. Sounds craptastic, lofi warts and all. That DS-1 is on point! Love the graphics and the Ds-1 is a great pedal, everyone has to own one at some point in there life.

Using a skrull for a small clone, brilliant! So cool, nice job.

I was between a couple different graphics but i thought this was classic spidey with peter hanging awkwardly. Besides, I got to use his head in Distortion!

Thanks Dan, My process is like the opposite of yours. I do the graphics before I build the board. So When the build doc gets released I do my design and then when I build it its all ready to roll. Finding a skrull image I liked was a challenge. I almost used this for my clone theory but opted for mystique on that. I'm going back and doing old builds so I have an opportunity to start over again.

thanks John, the TA7136P is a big step above and I would say its the key to the original sound. I have played the reissues and a keeley modded one and dont think the more hifi nature of the mods do anything for me. I always thought of the ds-1 as an opamp fuzz more than distortion.
