Nice! :) Did you make that?
Yep! Started out as a regular MIM with a maple neck. Over the course of 3 years, the pickups were changed 3 times (Fender Hot Noiseless, GFS Alnico II, and now D.Allen 60s R&B), neck was changed twice (first to a birdseye maple mighty mite, now this rosewood v mighty mite), pickguard was changed a couple times, etc.
The only thing original left on the guitar is the body itself. Can't even call it a legit Fender Strat anymore ;D

I've mostly been playing my strat copy these days
94 Hamer Daytona USA all original- sperzel tuners and duncan "vintage strat" alnico ii's. Hamer handmade these and they're supposed to be fashioned after a '54 model. Great sounding strat. It looks black in the pic but it's actually transparent blue.

Hi
Fantastic, so many amazing builds and nice guitars... inspiring. Got exited so I have to show you mine too.
Made this 2008 as a therapy project (do something else then work...) starting a year earlier. I found out that there was a flood of parts on ebay. After some investigation and calculation I found out that it wasn't that more expensive to just pick the parts from selected manufacturers for a top notch quality. I decided to build the guitar of my dreams, a my Parto-Caster 57 all with my spec's- I have actually enclosed my specification just for fun... and off cause some pic's of the result.
I felt it was a major risk project so I talked and interviewed the manufacturers (guess if they was tired of me...). It could end up with a beautiful guitar that was unplayable, looking good in the wall. It become my real player and I have sold all the others of my guitars except this one and my L6 Variax (more or less only for the acoustic and some Les Paul).
A peace that I never going to leave... enjoy. And thanks that you posted your beauties...

I've since removed the gaffa and the silly heart sticker. I love Tele Pluses. Great range of tones.

I waited a year for it to be made. Totally worth it.
This is my main guitar, she's a Framus Diablo Custom. Got it through the German E-bay, from a guy in Austria who didn't know what he was selling. Not a scratch from a belt-buckle on the back when i got it. Framus is a German guitar builder whose prices are ridiculous at the moment, so I'm a happy camper! The finish is a weird gold thing, which looks great under stage lighting, I'll post a pic in my next post.
Paul
This is the Framus on stage.....
These are nr. 2 and 3; Nr. 2 is one of the first Squires from the early eighties (probably an '82 Silver Series) and is used for general experimentation. Right now it has an ESP humbucker, which sounds like crap on it's own, but fantastic with a Wahwah and a high-gain amp. Nr. 3 is a no-name 7-string, which I bought at the Frankfurt MusikMesse a couple of years ago for only 85 Euro's. the guy I bought it from was Chinese, didn't speak any english or german, we made the deal by punching in numbers on a calculator...... ;)

My first guitar was a Squier Standard Korean Tele, its kinda stuck with me :)
I need to take new pictures, but this is my favorite of my guitars:
It is a Baker B1 that I had made for me a number of years back.
Crappy cell phone pic, but here's my No. 1 - a Ric 620. I haven't even window shopped for guitars since I got it. However, I think I might give in to the Firebird GAS when I get my tax return.

I just got rid of 3 guitars and still have too many, but here's some of my favourites:

a good old friend
I'm trying to cut down (the Viper is for sale...):
Fender Baja Telecaster. I've never liked Telecaster neck pups (more on this later), so had the body routed for a humbucker and a pickguard made. Dropped in a BKP Blackguard 50 bridge pup and an unpotted Mule (PAF clone) in the neck. All the S1 wiring was removed and it's just got a simple 3-way in there. Pretty much the 1st gutiar I always grab. It's nigh on perfect in every way.
Fender Stratosonic. Pups swapped for BKP-91's. Just a perfect thing. It's chambered mahogany and though it looks like a Strat it's sounds quite a bit LP.
TVMaster. It's a Telemaster parts-o-caster. Got it for a couple of pedals :) Body is from a GFS Xaviere and weighs a ton. Neck is from a Mexi Fender Classic 50. Pickguard is bake-a-lite. It came with a GFS pup in a Tele ashtray bridge. I've dropped in a TVJones Powertron Plus in a Tele Savalas bridge. Wiring is tone, no-tone, cocked wah. Sounds bloody brillant.
Ltd Viper 400. Currently selling this as it covers similar sonic ground to the Feline. As photographed it has had all it's EMGs pulled from it and replaced with a BKP Miracle Man bridge pup, Cold Sweat neck. The tone is a push-pull that splits the coils of both pups and the vol is a push pull that switches in an on-board SHO. It had battery provision so I thought why not use it :) Gonna pull the BKPs to sell it and drop in a set of Entwistles when they arrive.
Feline Lion Supreme. I ummed and ahhed over this for ages. I really am not a very good player at all and this is a very expensive thing. But it's purple, and I have a weakness for purple... Also it was a one-off custom built guitar that someone had made, then p-ex'd back with the luthier that built it for a V. Leaving it in absolutely as new condition but £1000 off... STILL I ummed and ahhed as it was still a lot of money. He offered to rout the baja and make me a pickguard for it if I bought it and at that point I couldn't say no.
Spec-wise it's loaded with BKP (noticing a theme yet?) Rebel Yell pups. This thing is sonic armageddon. It's so bloody heavy sounding it's untrue. Tight and thunderous. Not the lightest thing either.
---
Selling my Classic 50 has left me stratless. Instead I've decided to unleash my imagination and have engaged another luthier to build its replacement. Now I don't like trems or strat rear pups. As mentioned before I don't like tele front pups. I also find a strat more comfy, but prefer the shape of a Tele...
So he's building me a Stratele. Essentially a single cut strat with a telecaster backend. It's evolved much more since the initial idea and I'm sure it will continue to do so as it's built. But it's already starting to look cool.

First is my '06 Highway 1 Strat. First real guitar. It started as an HSS model but is now HSH with coil splits and neck on switch. Has Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro's in the neck and bridge, and an Alnico II Pro single coil in the middle. Schaller/Fender locking tuners.

I like the silvertone--the pickguard/pickups almost make it look like a toy but the neck is all mojo
Ha, yeah, the Thin Twin is a funky guitar. But they sound awesome. Those pickups are great and low-output.
Here is T-Bone playing one in another finish:
Here's my #1:
It's a partsmaster - neck and body from Warmoth ('59 roundback contour, vintage tint lacquer, 9.5" radius), AVRI hardware, and Lollar Jazzmaster-shaped P90s. Right now, it has graph tech Mustang saddles, but the Jazzy saddles are probably going back in. It plays like a dream and brings the rawk.
I recently pulled the rhythm circuit out, with plans of tossing an effect in there (SHO, perhaps?).

Thats a quality selection there Kinski.
This is the lastest pics my Tele that is being made for me at the moment by Eternal Guitars Uk.
The neck is beautifull; a soft V at the nut going to a C shape. Its not a trad tele neck shape but I like it!
It just needs a slight bit more ageing and it will be ready. I asked for really subtle ageing as I can heavy relic it myself; this one is going to be a keeper for life hopefully.

I deleted my original post because I have made some changes to my Tele, here is the description from before:
"I'm a little late to the party. Behold the "Twangmaster":
I bought this '00 Squire Standard Telecaster just after Christmas with a Guitar Center gift card from my wife's folks. I bought it for $199 from GC.com with an uneasy rumble in my tummy, first pic is from the used gear ad online. Since then I have gone the double stealth Esquire route with two hidden pickups under the Bakelite pickguard. There is the standard 3 way tele switch that has neck, neck+bridge, and bridge combinations, but the neck pickup is, for now, the original bridge pickup with the polarity reversed. I routed for a mini-humbucker that is on it's way in a week or so. The middle pickup is the stock neck without the metal cover in a cavity I routed as close to the bridge as possible. With the mini toggle you can select bridge+middle in series and out of phase or just bridge. Bridge pickup is a $20 Squire Alnico 5 Classic Vibe Custom job. Good to go for twang, or humbucker roar in the series position. I leveled, dressed, and polished the frets, sanded the back of the neck and the body until things were smooth and the poly on the body is about half as thick now. The routing made it a tad lighter and it is a little more resonant now. The increased resonance is more likely because there was a ton of poly in the neck pocket that I sanded out flat. Knobs are coarse knurled, switch tip is strat, couldn't ever get used to tele tips. Oak switch, Alpha and CTS pots, and electrosocket jack cup are a great improvement over the Indonesian stuff. I have about $325 into it now. Still saving for a Glendale or Callaham bridge. I love this stinking guitar."
I couldn't get a good enough sound with the pickups under the pickgaurd, the downfall of many stealth esquires. I cut my bakelite pickguard carefully on the drill press using a straight milling cutter and then a tiny sanding block to get things square and straight. Neck pickup is an Artec Mini Filtertron, a nice pickup, I think it's absolutely the same pickup as a GFS Nashville Minitron, but half the price. It is 4 conductor too so you could split it if you wanted to, but I left it be. I ditched the middle pickup that was stealth too, just running a series parallel switch between the neck and the bridge pickup. I am still working on getting a Glendale Am Std double cut raw deal bridge, and I think I am going to use Rutter's saddles. If any of you have an opinion on Glendale vs. Rutters vs. Callaham please chime in. None of that stuff is cheap, especially if i went all Glendale and got a fat neckplate and string ferrules I'd have $200 of hardware on a $200 guitar. I guess it is approaching hot-rod status in that respect. (More money in an engine than in the rest of the car) I still love this stinking guitar. Good peice of Kauri, this one.
Here is my favorite girl. Custom P90 Tele with Honduran Mohagany body (quatersawn), Warmoth neck, Gibson P90 pickups wich I modded to be hum-cancelling in the middle position.
I finished the body in Tru-oil which turned really nice. Only gripe is that it is a little soft and will ding up easily. Basically she is a tele with an SG soul. Absolutely killer tone.
Here are a few of mine.
The first is my "Go To"; a 1994 MIM I picked up on CL. A gold hardware "Deluxe" model with gold hardware. I am not sure what the bridge pickup is, I think an early Seymour Duncan hotrail, the mid and neck position are Texas Specials. Sure sounds great. I love the tone this thing has and the pearloid pickguard with gold hardware.
The second is an ESP LTD EC-256. Les Paul tone but without the thickness and weight. It is relic'd so she looks aged and well played. All Mahogony body, neck through. Each of the pickups can be tapped to single coil by pulling out the tone knob. Gives this a nice variety of tonal character.

Last work in progress pic I've had back from the one I'm having built... Sweeeeeet:
Is it a Strat or is it a Tele? Answer, it's going to be a Stratele!
HA! Id recognise Wez's worktop anywhere ;D
:D
here is a shot of my custom first act mosrite copy. alder body with a maple neck, 24 jumbo frets on an ebony fretboard. seymour duncan custom shop p-90's. surf green nitro finish. I traded first act's head luthier Bill Jancar a pretty cool tattoo for it. It sounds great for nice crunchy overdriven rock tones. tons of output and it's very resonant and sustains forever. he copied the neck profile from my favorite strat...A really comfortable soft "v" profile that is great for "thumb over the top" chord grips.

here's a terrible photo of the tat.

wow i feel stupid ... i play guitar 1-2 hours a day .. been playing for 15 years .. and all i have is a crappy ibanez artcore with upgraded pickups .. (and a 3000 bucks acoustic gypsy jazz guitar as it was my speciality before... )
all i could find to stop GAS for better guitars is telling me that i should spend more time on it before deserving a better instrument.
can't afford anything decent at the moment anyway :p

No need to feel stupid, your approach is very smart actually. If I spent as much time playing as I do building and chasing tones, I would be a damn good guitarist :'(
Well i did the same before meeting some cats who were actually killer players... with crappy gear.. that's when i understood that good gear doesn't make you sound better .. after the first 20 seconds of music.. but it can be inspiring if you are a good musician.
anyway, i'm playing MUCH less now that i started the whole pedal building thing.. :p
i'm actually getting back to playing a lot with much more pleasure now that the first 5 months of building frenzy are calming down a bit...
I dunno. I've played with and watched a lot of musicians. I agree that a great player can make mediocre equipment sound great, but quite frankly, if a player is great and plays great instruments they will often sound much better.
Honestly, using good equipment makes a difference when you're playing - ease of use, tone and feel are felt in the instrument I play. Sure, clapton will sound like Clapton on a custom shop strat or on a squier, but frankly, I like how Clapton sounds on his custom guitars much better than on the Squier.
That said, an instrument DOES NOT NEED to be expensive to be a quality instrument. I find my made in China Epi Dot to be a very excellent instrument, despite being 'made overseas' and being a sub 500 buck instrument. Same with other guitars I have. A well made and setup instrument can be had for a small amount of money.
Just some of my thoughts.
Jacob
I 100% agree with you jacob,
what i mean is: i prefer hearing clapton on a squier than a ... really bad guitarist on an expensive fender custom shop.
even if a good instrument of course helps him finding a good tone, inspiration, and technique.
100% agree with you on the fact that an instrument doesn't need to be expensive .. the best neck i have ever played was a 80s hank marvin signature squire strat neck. it was fitted on a fender custom shop strat body, with les paul pickups on neck and bridge and a texas special between them...
i actually sold that guitar for a ridiculously low amount of money.
we all make mistakes.
In my current art core however, i can HEAR that the wood is ... bad. i mounted bare knuckle pickups on it and it sounded plastic. as if the pickups were too transparent to hide that this was a guitar build with low quality woods. except for that, it's a great work guitar, plays really well, very good intonation, reactivity, i can take her with me everywhere and not worry about damaging a 400$ guitar. It's quite 'cold' however.. not really reacting to what i play. i miss that.
Got a new amp and cab! This is what I've been playing through this weekend (Blacktop Jazzmaster -> VP Jr, Naga Viper, Formula 5, Sea Machine, Flashback -> Mesa Boogie Express 5:50/Lonestar 2x12 cab)

My MIM Baja Tele is my favourite axe. I snagged that for £250 from a forum member on BKP who'd taken it in p-ex against something else and just wanted rid of it. It was bloody good when I got it. A bit of attention to the back of the neck soon got that nice. The pup swap and electronics simplification I did wasn't really neccessary. But it took a great guitar and made it exceptional. All up cost after I sold all the bits I took out was probably about £350.
My "go to" guitar. 1977 Les Paul Double Cut. I have an old Melody Maker and newer Epi's but I find myself going back to this one.

That DC is too cool! I love the volute on those 70's necks too, nice feeling for playing open chords.

Thanks, I prefer that P90 sound to humbuckers. But it doesn't have the volute that you see on SG's. The neck is wide and flat unlike any of my other guitars which are more "C" shaped.
OK. Here are my two. Been playing guitar longer, but definitely play bass much, much more. Probably a better bass player than guitar player now. I'm ok with that. :)
Sorry for the iPhone instagram pictures, but it's all I got right now.
My bass of choice is my Marcus Miller Sig. Jazz Bass.

My #1 guitar is my '79 Kramer DMZ2000 (aluminum neck series). Thing is a beast, weighs a TON and sounds great. When I was still living in NJ, I had the privilege of having luthier Phil Petillo (RIP), who was key in designing these guitars, do some restoration because the previous owner didn't give it enough love and even filed down to try and round Petillo's patented "Precision Frets" (which come to a point, and aren't rounded). Going to his shop and meeting him was truly a great memory for me. Truly remarkable man.
Love this guitar.

The cases that these puppies are in are Monocases M80s. By far the best gig bags out there. If you travel with your instrument, it's worth the money. Check them out. They are a fantastic company. I'm a bit of a fanboy and have one of their wallets and Kondensor bags (even though I'm not a DJ, but my Little Mark II fits perfectly in the back compartment and I can carry it around Nashville when I need to).

Thanks for the info! All the 70's LP's and SG's I have had the pleasure of playing have had that volute, I didn't realize the DC had a much different neck profile. I used to play traditional ska, rocksteady, and reggae, that DC would be perfect for that stuff besides the obvious ablity to rock. Thanks for posting it!

Yes! P90's sound good for reggae - judging by Bob Marley's LP Special.

Hey Bret, just saw your post, sorry. Yeah, Rick Kelly has a shop in the West Village, Carmine Street Guitars. I live in NYC, so its easy to stop by. A beautiful guitar built from pine taken from a building on the Bowery dated from the mid 1800s. "The bones of New York" as Rick says.

I am jealous of that collection! I feel we have similar tastes!
I generally dislike Strats, but I love this one!

The Don Quixotecaster:
Complete with Sancho Panza switch. It doesn't do anything on its own, and most of the time has no effect, but sometimes it makes things a little fatter.
Like that, reminds me of my old Table. That had similar switching:
Possibly a little over-complicated in the end. The three pup selectors were fine. The vol and tone were push pulls and depending on which was doing what it gave you either: single coil rails, P90s or humbuckers parallel or serial. Great pickups those P-rails. Very versatile.
The tele has a Dimarzio Area Hot T in the bridge, and a Dimarzio 36th Anniv. PAF in the neck. Korina body, maple neck. Sounds amazing! Made by a New Zealand luthier, http://www.ashcustomworks.com/ (http://www.ashcustomworks.com/)
Nice Al... quite a few diy pedals there too :)
I too can vouch for ashcustomworks, love the guitar I had built!

No problem! I lived in NYC '95-'00 and wish I had known about his shop.
At the time, there was a music venue/art space in this cavernous old chamber in one of the pillars of the Brooklyn Bridge. I think it was called the Anchorage. I don't know if it's still used in that way, but when I hear "bones of New York" it brings it to mind! What a cool concept for a guitar.
Nearly there....

Yeah, the Donahue. It has the best back story. I was in my last year of university and was in a pretty big funk as I could see the rest of my life looming and wasn't overly crazy about the prospect of having to take on the big bad world. My dad called me up one day and said he'd heard on the radio that Long and McQuade (the Canadian equivalent of Guitar Center) was putting on a guitar clinic with Jerry Donahue and wanted to make a father son night (my dad plays a little bit). So we went, and of course you put your name in for the draw for various prizes, with the grand prize being Jerry's guitar. Now, I didn't know Jerry from a hole in the ground as I was a hard rock enthusiast, nor was I a big Tele fan, but I figured a T-shirt or some strings would be cool. Jerry puts on the clinic and proceeds to absolutely blow my mind. So they get around to the draws, and everyone who's winning is buddies with the L&M staff, so it seems like the fix is in. Then they get to the grand prize, and wouldn't you know it, they call my name. Almost forgetting how to walk I make it to the stage, and I wish I still had the picture, but here's me on stage with Jerry, and all I can think is "Please, God, don't let him ask if I want to jam with him, I don't remember how to even play an E5." Was offered $2500 for the guitar before I got out the back door of the auditorium, but there was no way I was passing on the guitar. Played the shit out of it for the next 7 years, still in really good shape now even though it's been retired for 6 years. It's also the only guitar I've had for more than ten years.
As far as players go, the Classic Vibe, Protone, and Epi with the Custom 5/59 are my favourites, mainly because I've pimped them all the way out and am not scared of damaging them.
The McCarty and Custom 22 are the prettiest, but truthfully they get played very little as I am way too afraid of dropping them or worse. Kinda like an old band mate of mine who's grandfather willed him a mint 63 SG to which he refused to put $12 strap locks on, and proceeded to drop it on it's headstock on a concrete floor two weeks in. You can guess what it looked like after.

Anytime you're in town man, let me know. I'll actually be in Yorkton next week for a meeting, and if it goes as planned, I'll probably be there once a month for the next 8 months.
DUDE! Got time for coffee? In the least I can come find you for a half hour and bring you some Tim's. Or Robin's, or McD's. The options are limited here.
Wait, are we talking about the same Yorkton, Sk? What on earth could bring you here? PM/email me.
Jacob
The very same Yorkton, my friend (this is a very recent development, as in this afternoon). I'll work out the details over the next couple of days, I'll fill you in once I know for sure. I'll definitely make some time to meet up. Probably be closer to the end of the week, as I'll probably fly into the Peg and drive out, and if I do it near the weekend I can drive up to see my parents on the weekend.
Here's a few of my friends - I love them all... differently
Gretsch G5120 bought for me by my wife a couple of Valentines ago.

Fernandes Vertigo, their cheap one, but this is my go to and grab guitar, the neck is fantastic and with the p90s I have in it it just sounds great to me. Plus I'm not afraid to be less than gentle with it.

Dude, Pro tone hollow body tele, sweeet!!!!!!!!! There was one here hanging in a pawn shop for the longest time, but it was damaged far beyond what I was willing to fix. Sweet axes.
Pro Tones are totally unsung.
Here's a Hendrix-y with a painted fingerboard. I built this out of poplar (body) and maple (neck). I found out the hard way that painting a fingerboard is a pain in the butt.

Now has MIJ Jazzmaster pickups drilled through the bobbins to mount ike p-90's with a tele bridge pup plate screwed to the inside of the cavity and grounded for more twang. A control plate featuring the distressed black sparke finish I have been using on my pedals, just a 3 way and volume with a .033 and 470k in series to ground for a fixed tone control. Bridge is USA fender chopped at home with CJ Tooling 5/16" Cold Rolled Steel saddles. Little bit of 60's mex alum. to cover the cleavage. I recontoured the nec to make it soft v to c and rounded the backside of the "hump" on the bottom edge of the headstock while I was at it. It has Tonepros Klusons with the bolt bushing now too. Really love this guitar.
That all white strat is pretty sick! I bet it was rough to do, but it looks awesome!
I've never understood what people like about p90s...
Jacob
Thanks Jacob. The hardest part of the white finish was masking the inlays. I ended up punching painters tape with a hole punch and then cleaning them up when it was all done. The inlays are purple with mirrored backs so they look like they're about 1/4" deep.
It's a goofy way to play (left handed guitar strung right) as the output jack and all the knobs and switch are in your way. I don't know how Hendrix did it (right strung left) without bashing up his picking hand wrist. I always thought he looked so cool and the white/angel theme seemed to fit.
I detailed the complete build at www.gordomusic.com/jhangel.htm (http://www.gordomusic.com/jhangel.htm)
Should have been www.gordomusic.com/jhangel.html (http://www.gordomusic.com/jhangel.html)
Oh, and P-90's? Kind of a love it or shove it affair. Nasty noise floor. Killer midrange and just a stoopid range from balls out to edged clean. Sort of like a good Scotch, an acquired taste, but once you get it you're hooked. My ideal guitar is an old Les Paul with P-90s and a stop tailpiece. I have a really nice LP Special from 1977, but without the arched maple top it's not quite the same.
Probably why Hendrix lit crap on fire and acted like a weirdo. Taking out his aggression on a guitar strung backwards !
Nice guitars, espcially dig the all white strat.
Heres what im working on at present. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/11/yne2emuz.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/11/u9avevup.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/11/yte7atyj.jpg)

HA!!! Never really thought of it that way. A reversed Strat definitely feels different because the string tension is backwards and looking down at it is like an optical illusion.

Wow... you paint that??? That is some serious dip, and cool inlays :)
Rockwood PRO by Hohoner (RP 180G) a neighbor gave it to me, lookted up in the net to see the value and NOTHONG so if you know tell me... BTW I emailed hohoner to ask, gave me two different prices $100 and like $350 something + they don't make them no more (not there speciality)
I made the guitar strap out of soda/beer can tabs and pickguard out of cheap wood... need to change the white cap of the toggle switch
I want to put in a bridge humbucker or neck (haven't decided yet)

!!!!!! You MADE that strap??? How cool is THAT!!! Sorry, excessive use of caps, but I'm blown away!
Yup, made the strap, I wanted to make and sell, but it didn't go well :(
BTW I can make a "tutorial" on how to make one, you will need like 1000 tabs, string, a week of your life, and some piece of leather to rest the guitar butt and functions as a bass to start the strap... I still have that leather black thing that goes on the bottom, I THINK I can mail some to ones that TRULY are going to make one (post an image of the tabs ;))

Dude no way, i cant take credit for that although I would love to. The body was swirled by alan at 'out of this swirled' and the neck was made by nate perle in the US. I just pieced them together.

Thanks, much appreciated.
The body was simply finished with Tung-Oil, 16 hand-rubbed coats with 16-24 hours of drying between each of them, and lemon oil wet sanding between each coats.
So it took a month just for the body finish.
The neck has been finished that way too, but 24 coats, the pictures don't really show the depth of the wood grain, but in person it's really nice....
Only thing...........she's soooo heavy...........15.4 pounds on my Rapala fish scale..hehe

Well.......acoustically, she sounds really dark, and the Low B string is really articulated (does'nt sound like a Tuba).
When i first completed it, i had a SD JB in there, wich have quite present bass in his voicing.........it was just too much.....guitar was kind of always «sitting behind»........low frequencies taking the biggest part of the cake.
When i swapped to the BKP, wich have less bass and more focused on Mids, good to say that it have a noticable mid pike in it's voice........so it brings the «string» right in the face.......without being too trebly.
So with the body natural response, that lower gain pickup with a medium high output (15.6K), it's really well balanced.
So YES! it chuggs pretty good, but not moshy or muddy, a nice fast and tight response on the lower frequency range. But also able of nice classic rock tones.

From top left to right:
Les Paul Studio (my first 'proper guitar' that I got when I was 16, all stock). It's had a hammering over the years, but I love it.
USA Strat (with new pickguard, pots etc and BKP 'Mothers Milk' Pickups). Really nice, but is overdue a good setup.
Gretsch Electromatic (fantastic guitars for the money, the new ones even have filtertron pickups already fitted).
Mex Strat (modded with new noiseless pickups, pickguard, electronics etc.). This is one of the faves.
Squier Matt Freeman Precision bass (new pickups and pguard, electronics/jack etc.). This is a fantastic bass for the money, especially with a set of flatwounds on there ;).
Eternal Guitars 'Betty'. My 'poshest' guitar by far; custom ordered. I can't recommend Eternal guitars enough.
Baja Tele. The 'Black sheep' of the lot. I just can't get along with the big neck. Otherwise a lovely guitar. If any of you UK guys want to buy/trade let me know ;)

Hey Rej yeah they are great guitars. I think Gibsons were made a lot better back in the 90's compared to today?
Shame about yours getting nicked mate; the B*stards >:(!
Me and my Dad went to get my first 'proper' electric guitar; I had a really crummy squier affinity beforehand, which were crap back then.
I wanted a white epiphone les paul custom (so I could look like James Dean Bradfield ::)), but the Gibson studio wasn't much more. My Dad treated me, and I guess knew that it would last me, and its ended up being the one guitar I would never sell; to much sentimental value.
Lets see some more ensemble pics guys ;)!

Neither the shop nor the actual builder have built another of these models. The entire thing was designed and scoped to, by, and for me. At one point they had to create some new tools to do some of the work on the back of it.
In fact, the guy who built it retired from luthiering when he finished. I like to think that he felt as though he had made his masterpiece and quit on a high note; but I think he was ready retire anyway.
It plays like a dream. The string spacing is custom to me, as in i measured out how my plucking fingers naturally fall and used that for string spacing. The neck is just like my fiver. It's thin and flat.
The only thing I don't like aobut it is that it feels like it weighs a million pounds. Actual weight is right at 14 pounds. That's 1 stone for you European and Australian folk (stone? that's what you use right?)
As far as cost. I don't mind being asked or answering, but I'm always interested in what you think it costs before I tell you.
Ahhhh, building guitars.....my first addiction.
Some are total blank wood builds, some are mods, some are scrap heap saves. All were loved, most were sold.
Now that I've gotten into pedals, building amps is the next logical step. The thought of having a complete rig of my doing is pretty cool IMO.

I'm in love with black teles....
You guys are low.
Special body and fretboard inlays.
Non-template body shape and special string spacing.
Handwritting scrpt on the control cavity carved and filled with silver. Silver side dot inlays.
Mammoth tusk bone nut.
Quilted maple reclaimed from the bottom of Lake Michigan.
Custom body design.
Etc.
Etc.
It cost me $6.5k. The builder and shop later told me that they should have put it up in the high $9000, but they didn't know how much work a bass like this would cost when I submitted the design. ONe thing that made it so expensive was that I put the guys through hell getting woods. I wanted wood from each continent and I had to bless off on the grain and texture of all of it. I didn't get each continent though, just North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Wow amazing job on the tele TNblueshawk.
Keep it in that state should be challenging,
and no, even the frets are gold ?

It is made by a french luthier called Loïc Le Pape.
All his guitars are made of steel (except for the neck) and built according each customer's wishes.
9 months waiting list and an ever growing number of guys like me who LLLLLOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE their guitar.
You can have a look to his website (http://www.loiclepapesteelguitars.com/).
All models are simply amazing.
It sounds like an old vintage guitar with lots of sustain, no noise at all, great dynamics, an astonishing finish.
BEST GUITAR I'VE EVER PLAYED WITH !!!!
He has customers all around the world.
Just tell him what you and let him do. But don't tell him you want a telecaster or a 335 like the one you saw on google. Tell him what you really desire, what you dream of.
He is often compared to TRUSSART but believe me, Loïc Le Pape's guitars have a soul that Trussart's will never have.
And here's my amp. It's a Fender Tweed '57 Bandmaster clone, point-to-point hand wired by a friend in France:

3x Weber 10' speakers, Mercury Magnetics transformers, JJ power tubes and EHX preamp tubes.
Here's what I'm using right now
Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster, a LOT of guitar for the money.

Fender Lite Ash Tele, MIK, but refinished to nitro, and a lot of it was moded actually, still haven't really found the pickups I love in there, only the ones that are okay sounding to me. Maybe it's the guitar...

and my beloved Gibson SG Standard, my number one guitar.

The amp is a custom made amp called Jive King 20, a 25W model with 6V6 tubes, tube rectifier, triode/pentode switch, master volume and pregain, spring reverb, Celestion G12H30 speaker and an oversized cab. It is a supreme sounding amp, kind of like a Deluxe Reverb but different, definitely on the Fender side of things. I love it. You can here the sounds here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDb0C_4GpNo if you are interested, it's from a local Tele convention. Only OCD clone used here and there for a volume boost [drive on zero] to make those output tubes sing a little more.
And of course...

Yes, you can find my Jaguar on his website. It's the only Jaguar he made. I was impressed by the Jazzmasters he made but I wanted a Jaguar !!!! and a gold one !!!
The Graphtech piezo saddles are just awesome.
BUT I had already heard them before on another guitar (a cheap one) and had found the sound poor and thin. So it sounds great on a guitar that already has a great sustain and resonance such as hollow body Gibsons, mahogany based Les Pauls and of course Loïc Le Lape Steel guitars. Piezo saddles are installed on most of his guitars.
That Jaguar is beautiful! How is the weight compared to the usual wood body?
Yeah, that Jaguar is a real beauty. Very very nice.

The weight (3.9kg) is almost identical to usual wooden guitars because the body is hollow and the rear is perforated:

Marr Jaguar. Pretty decent plank...
Man cool guitars... I'd be posting mine but my camera is too sh*tty
Got a bunch but this is my fave. My son (when he was in HS) cut the body out in his shop class. He's moved on to his life as an engineer, but I'll never part with this. It's named Franklin, after him of course. Sentimentality aside, the Lollar P90 and Special T in the mahogany body are pretty sweet too.

Here's another one, korean made parker pm-20. At the time I was looking for a mahogany body set neck guitar with an ebony board that was lightweight and had good sustain. I got my wish. Not the end-all be-all, but it's pretty cool I guess. I put in sperzel tuners, better pickups and graph tech resomax bridge, all nice improvements. fun little guitar.

I took a chance on them and got them really cheap (AU$175 for the pair). Never had much to do with P90s before but man.... Its totally changed the way i hear my sound in my head, im so in love with them, and in the explorer they just BOOM! Neck is like butter and the bridge has just enough bright edge and snap, plus they both have a nice smooth growl. Had to change my playing style a bit, I cant be as sloppy with these as I am with 'buckers
No difference with the extra 50k to my ears anyway, its just to offset the %tolerance of the pots so they are closer to the 500k that gibbo's are supposed to have, I think thats the way they explain it ;D

From right to left
Peavey USA Wolfgang Arch top stoptail, flame green top, a birthday gift from my wife. It feels really weird because everything is so compact, but plays great and sounds amazing.
PRS SC250, 10 top, apparently belonged to Chris Henderson from 3 Doors Down for a couple of tours, serious buckle rash on the back, ridiculously hot bridge pickup, fat, fat neck.
PRS SC250, 10 top, birds, pristine condition, sounds completely different then my other SC250 which makes me think the pickups might not be stock, or the other one has a Tremonti bridge pickup in it labelled as a 250 (they did that for a run), fat neck as well.
PRS SC245 Goldtop, relic'ed from some pretty heavy use, David Allen P-51 pickups w/coil tap, AMAZING neck, clearly well used by the guy before me, but it's funny how sometimes you find a kindred soul who did the mods which you would have done.
Carvin CS6, Orangeburst, ebony board, stainless frets. My first Carvin excursion, was a little nerve racking. Best neck of any guitar I've ever owned, amazing fretwork, better top than any of my PRS 10s. Only two complaints - it's a little lighter (thinner) than I'd like it to be, and I picked the wrong pickups for it. Put in the vintage spec C22s, the neck sounds pretty good, bridge is way too weak, but in their defence, that's pretty much the way they describe it on the website. As soon as I get the nerve to unpretty it a bit, there's a Tone Zone and a Norton going in.

Here's my latest acquisition...
MJW Customs NYC, that i got from Forrest (CJ)
Tuned 2 whole step lower with lower string in «Drop B», Dimarzio ChopperT at bridge, Dimarzio P90, One piece swamp ash body and bassball neck!
Stringed with EB Cobalt BigBottom 10-54, my latest crush string wise...they just sound better to me...more attack, more balanced across the fretboard and a tad more output.
Perfectly suited for my Deftones/Tool/Gojira mood that i'm into at the moment..

Truthfully, not a big fan of the four knob set either, and the way Paul lays them out is even worse (it's Volume/Tone, Volume/Tone, as opposed to Volume/Volume, Tone/Tone), I prefer the Tele layout.
As far as the PRS comment goes, the best way I can sum it up is this. I've fallen out of love with Gibson (but ironically enough, not Epiphone), primarily because of the inconsistency in them, the poor headstock design, and the fact that it's really hard to find a good deal on them unless they've got a headstock repair. By the end of the month, I'll have purged all but one of my Gibsons. I find PRS to be far more consistent, resonant, and I like the necks better. That's not to say that when I find the perfect Les Paul I won't pick it up, but that search has taken longer than it should.
Vintage V100 Les Pauls are hard to beat, I reckon :) Mine's a winner.
I wire my gibsons pots upside down? treble on the top rhythm on the bottom.

Just picked this beast up last week for a song.

Les paul standard, threw a set of coil tapped Lace Dirty Heshers in there, tuned to C sharp with 12s, Thing is a beast.
This is my main though, going on 7 years of playing it 2 hours a day plus every day.
1978 Gibson SG. Ive only seen one other white one from 78 without a bigsby.

Love that white SG. Brings back memories of when I was a teenager. Someone in a local band had one I lusted pretty hard after. Beautiful guitar.

Seriously Curtis? More PRSes?
I have a terrible dislike for independent volume and tone knobs on guitars. Give me Master Volume/Master Tone.
Jacob
PRS is doing what Gibson used to do.....take pride in their products, and care about quality.

Cortexturizer, that tele looks awesome!
Thank you drezdn, it does! haha
I had a first rehearsal with it last night and I must say it sounds awesome, AWESOME. It is a fantastic classic rock/blues guitar with sparkly FAT cleans and even fatter leads. It definitely has the fattest tone that's still undoubtedly FENDER through and through. I highly recommend this model to anyone that likes the tele tone but finds it either piercing or just...not heavy enough. Not me, I love traditional models, I'm just sayin heh.
On a side note, If anyone has a similar guitar they should spend hours adjusting the poles of the magnets, it makes a world of difference. Mine took two days of playing and adjusting until I was satisfied. A world of difference.
Not the greatest pictures, and they are old ones. Need to get some updated ones soon.
Ibanez S470. My first 'proper' guitar after a Squire Strat. I absolutely love this thing.

Yamaha Pacifica. Really dont like playing this thing, but I got it from a mate for £20, so I cant complain!

This one is a beauty! Weighs an absolute ton as well. Fernandes Vertigo :) no tone or volume knobs, just a killswitch.

Also got a BC Rich warlock. Its in bits at the moment as I want to get it repainted st the moment, but its gonna cost aboit £450 so it can wait. Looking the have the Rebel flag on it, soneone did a photoshop on it and it looked awesome! I did put a Quad rail pickup in the nech and a Bill Lawrance L500 in the bridge. Sounded amazing!

I like your S470... too bad the entire S line has 24 frets now.
This is what I am currently using all the time when playing guitar.
Its built out of parts (Allparts swampash body and vintage colored maple neck with palisander fretboard)
It features a tele bridge with a Twinblade-bucker, David Barfuss neck and middle Big.Mag pickup and a 5-way selector switch.
I did have the green color mixed to what I think is surf-green and I did not use filler on the body as I wanted to see the swampash structure through it.
Here are some pictures:

Nice job Thomas, really dig those knobs.
Beautiful guitar Thomas. Everything works so well together from the color to the pickguard to the knobs. Great job.
Thank you guys, I really love this guitar as it does not only look good but also plays so well.
I also do own a Squier classic vibe telecaster and an Epiphone Firebird which is extremely modded.
I do currently not own a LesPaul simply for the reason that I have not found a good sounding one I can effort and I have problems balancing them on my legs when playing sitting which I do a lot.
Oh, I also do own a DBZ Barchetta in purple which is my workroom guitar ;D
Good Les Pauls are few and far between these days. Gibson has really dropped their standards.

It is! I used to work with a guy who was a guitar tech for touring bands. Apparantly, it belonged to Riggs, and used by him to record albums and on tour, plus signed by him and Rob Zombie. I used to have a lot of of band equipmentfrom him, Wes Borlands Mesa Duel Reck (serial number 97) and 4x12 cab, Wes Borlands 7 string Ibanez, Fender custom shop strat for Good Charlotte (best strat I've ever played, actually best guitsr I've played), and quite a few others. I stupidly sold all of it years ago, made a lot of money from it as I needed a new car, now regret selling them. The Fernandes I've kept, I don't play it (still has the original strings on it), but I just can't sell it as I dont want that empty feeling in a couple of years.

My telecaster is my main squeeze, and after nearly ten years I thought I'd change some things around. Sadly I haven't got any money at the moment, so I was limited to using whatever we had around the house/ workshop.
I went from this-
(http://assets.fender.com/frl/e7df8a42c35a0662b51895b0a85a905a/generated/86ceb3c861ac3d7b0737b2ccde488ca3.png)
To the tele on the right (on the left is my Squier Bronco VI)
The lack of funds meant that I couldn't get the pickups I wanted yet, so I modded the body to accept the right styles so I don't have to do it later. At the moment the neck pickup is a rail 'bucker hidden under an undrilled JM cover I bought as a curiosity some time ago. The wood is still scarred from paint removal. I've stripped a few Squiers, but I've never come up against anything like this paint job. It was diamond coated adamantium all the way. Now coated in a few layers of Tru Oil. Loving it!
These are my axes, the oldest being the original Fender Bullit Deluxe and believe it or not my favourite.. I bought it in 1982, next is the strat 2002 model which I have had about two years and the last a 2009 Les Paul Studio about a year old it has done nothing and being honest requires a complete set up.
I also put my old acoustic Ovation Viper picture in there as well, sadly had to sell it for the old story...yes the cash :(
Anyway here they are...excuse the Line 6 POD 300 :-[
Cool, I love guitars that stand out (meaning the bullet) and especially telecasters :-)

Thanks Thomas, It has been said Fender had plenty of stock Telecaster necks so they put them on the Bullet model, I don't know if it was true. I can tell you the neck on my Bullet is beautiful even the profile of the guitar says Telecaster. It is also a lot lighter than the strat.
The Bullet was aimed at the young end of the market, hence they were cheaper to buy...but this didnt in anyway make them less desirable. You can get upwards of £300 on a good day for them now. I think mine was £82 it seemed a lot at the time :)

How you gonna post this without any sort of cool story? These are great guitars.
Ha... same guitar.
Not so much a cool story, just a lot of trial and error to get it the way I wanted it. But my vision did come through!
Had OneEyedJack build the body for me. Mahogany with a cypress top. Bought the neck from USAG and had it sent to OEJ so that he could fit it to the body. Stained by me and finished in tru-oil. Bill Lawrence pickups, brass one-piece bridge. I love it! Still needs a fret leveling job-- kind of getting to the point where I'll need to do that sooner than later.
Here are my guitars as well as my home studio setup.
(2) Fender Strats, Fender Tele, Les Paul, BC Rich (was a gift), Martin Acoustic, Applause Acoustic, and a cheap Lap Steel.
My baby though is my 80s Surf Green Fender Strat with EMGs and a Kauhler trem. It was my first guitar and still my favorite.
My best friends!

My children.
Ibanez AS-50 from '81, made in Japan. USA Fender Standard Stratocaster, from '96, with custom color (transparent candy apple red), and Taylor 814CE from 2012.
I'm not a good guitar player... I exercised the "color scale" today only... :P

Cheers!
I have one of them MK phasers...really like the way it sounds.
Now I've got the TV Master back I can take a group shot. It's not great and at some point I'll do a better one, but you get the idea.
Heck yes! I'd totally rock that.
That black Strat not so much (sorry) but those others are f*in awesome!
The StratSG is always going to be a contentious one. An experiment like the Stratele in slamming two styles of guitar together. I personally love it. But it was always going to be an acquired taste. It sounds and plays lovely.

Left to right:
Höfner Verythin - one from the last year of German made ones before thy started making these in China. Not that those are bad. I wish the neck was less "sticky".
Taranaki - that's the name of the distributor of Eastwood and Reverend guitars here, and this was their own short lived line of guitars. Got in in a sale. It's heavy and the neck is too small for me, so this will be sold. I had different pickups in there, and the "Bigsby" is on one of those Vibramate things (both are the Duesenberg version, not original Bigsby). Will keep the pickups and the tremolo and am selling a lot of stuff right now so that in a while, after summer holidays, I can build a chambered Warmoth Jazzmaster and put these in there.
Warmoth Tele - built it in 2003 and it's the best guitar in the world. Big fat "Boatneck" profile.
Eastwood Tuxedo - completely hollow, got it for a good price on ebay years ago.
Washburn Falcon (or Hawk?) - made in Japan in 1980, I got it in 95, I think, for a fantastic price in the local classifieds. This was my second electric and the first decent one. Pickups I swapped for Duncans. It, too, has a large neck, which is good. But honestly, I keep it mainly for nostalgic reasons.
Danelectro Baritone - modded with a Duesenberg Bigsby.
Just finished building this one...... Honduran Mahogany and Black Walnut
So my gear has changed a bit since I started this thread...
On the wall:
1.MIM body, Mighty Mite birdseye maple neck, GFS lil killers in the neck/middle and GFS fat pat in the bridge
2. Highway 1 body, Warmoth flame maple/pau ferro neck, D. Allen 60s R&B pickups (my new no. 1)
3. Guitar I learned how to play on. It's a beat up acoustic that I got for free when I was deployed overseas, and has the signatures of everyone that helped teach my how to play.
On the ground is my Taylor GA-4 and my Guild GAD-40C.

I really need a TV Master as my next guitar... Filtertrons are so sweet! Deep love for those! :)
Err, so I was looking back at my post from December 2012, and I no longer have 30 of those guitars, so I guess it's time for a new post. That's the task for the long weekend.
That being said, here's the newest incumbent, a Hamer 25th Anniversary Artist I picked up on ebay today. Hope she shows up looking as good as the picture.

Crappy cell phone pic, but here's my No. 1 - a Ric 620. I haven't even window shopped for guitars since I got it. However, I think I might give in to the Firebird GAS when I get my tax return.

All right, I'll do this in stages since I've got a couple of the sets photographed.
First up, my Ernie Ball Music Mans (Men?)
(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/841/ei34.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/ndei34j)
Back Row L- R
Axis Sport with two MM-90s and Silent Circuit, metallic gold, CLB signature, rosewood neck. Nice and snappy, nice figure to the neck even though it's a sport
Axis Sport with two Dimarzio humbuckers, five way switching, metallic copper with matching headstock. This was the EBMM that got me hooked. If I gigged anymore, this would be my main gigging axe.
Axis Sport with a Dimarzio PAF bridge and two Dimarzio single coils, Silent Circuit, swamp ash body, maple neck. Beat up pretty bad, probably because it sounds so good.
Silhouette Special with a Dimarzio PAF pro and two Dimarzio single coils, Silent Circuit, alder body, vintage burst, rosewood board. This is a 2013, and I don't like the neck finish nearly as much on these as the older gun oil and wax jobs.
Silhouette Special with a Dimarzio PAF pro and two Dimarzio single coils, Silent Circuit, alder body, maple board, black, old school neck. Like this a lot better than the burst.
Bottom Row L-R
Reflex Gold Top - Two custom wound Dimarzios, five way switching, parallel series switch, killer tremolo, metallic gold top with white binding, rosewood board. Insanely good playing and sounding guitar, just wish it had the old school finish on it.
Albert Lee SSS - Three custom wound Dimarzio single coils, standard strat switching, silent circuit, killer birdseye maple neck and board, old school neck finish, autographed by Albert on the back of the headstock. The best playing, best sounding strat I own. Also the ugliest.
1996 First Year Axis - Killer quilt maple top and headstock, deep purple finish which is starting to fade to brown like all EVHs did and early Axis, two Steve Blucher custom humbuckers, Floyd bridge decked. I almost categorically detest Floyd loaded guitars, except this one.
Axis Super Sport Rosewood - solid rosewood neck. Nuff said.
Steve Morse Y2D Desert Sunburst - Signature Dimarzio Pups, coolest burst I own, killer birdeye neck. Best playing neck of any guitar I own. Ever.
US Sub-1 - Can totally tell why EBMM lost money on these. Ridiculously good build. Bridge pickup is one of the warmest stock pickups I've ever heard.
More to come.
Next up, my G&Ls
(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/843/o3yfi.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/nfo3yfij)
Top row L-R
Legacy, stock with expander (superstrat) mod. Workhorse strat.
Hollowbody Legacy, Ltd Edition quilt top. This is the one FedEx nearly destroyed.
Bottom row, L-R
ASAT Classic S, Butterscotch Blackguard, Swamp Ash Body, massive C profile neck, MFD neck and bridge pickups, S-500 middle pickup, five way + push pull for neck activation in all settings. Heavy as hell, seriously probably the heaviest guitar I own.
ASAT Classic, Butterscotch Blackguard, Swamp Ash Thinline Body with no F-holes, slim neck w/ rosewood board (an odd combination for a blackguard), MFD neck and bridge pickups, graphtech saddles, modified ashtray bridge. One of my favourite teles to play. Sounds fantastic.
ASAT Classic, Butterscotch Blackguard, Swamp Ash Body, medium profile neck w/maple board, MFD Pickups. Looks like a classic, plays like a modern.
ASAT Bluesboy, Sunburst, double bound thinline ash body, medium profile neck w/rosewood board, MFD bridge pickup, SD Seth Lover neck pickups. Pickup combo is probably the most balanced I've ever played in a fat tele setup.
ASAT Z-3, Honeyburst, Swamp Ash body, medium profile neck w/maple board, locking tuners, saddlelock bridge, Z-3 pickups (hum-cancelling, as they are wound like P-bass pickups but maintaining single coil chime and tone with a lot more oomph than your standard SC).
ASAT Hollow, Swamp Ash body, medium profile neck w/rosewood board, ASAT pickups, metallic red finish. Looks better than it sounds, my least favourite of the 8.
Will try and get PRS and Carvin posted tomorrow.
