Title: 03.18 - PreOrders are available
Post by: madbean on March 18, 2012, 03:42:10 PM
Pre-Ordering is now available for:

Afterlife, BaconBits, CaveDweller, Hipster, Runt, Smoothie, FatPants, Boneyard, Mudbunny, Slow Loris, Collosalus, Road Rage, Snarkdoodle, CherryBomb.

New layouts: Mudbunny, Snarkdoodle (pcb-mounted pots for both)
New layout, new circuit: FatPants (see http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=3990.0 (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=3990.0))

Also, the Current Lover and Rangemaster will soon go out of stock. More of these will be ordered at the same time. They will go into "Pre-Order" status when the stock depletes (assuming that happens before the next batch arrives).

Also, please note this from the Projects Page:

Pre-Orders will ship the first week of April. Due to the new USPS shipping rates, I will no longer be able to ship in-stock items separately if they are part of a Pre-Order. Please place a separate order for in-stock items to have them shipped immediately.

------------

I WILL have the BOM and at least schematics for all the new stuff in the next couple of days so everyone can plan their parts order accordingly. The full documentation will probably run up right to the last minute, though.

Collosalus pre-ordered!! WOO-HOO!!!!

Hoping the Nautilus and that modulated reverb (in 'R&D' at the moment) come around soon.

Kudos Madbean!!

Awesome! Is the Cave Dweller available for pre-order the single PT2399 version?
Title: Re: 03.18 - PreOrders are available
Post by: madbean on March 19, 2012, 07:07:15 AM
Yes, sorry, it's Cave Dweller 1, not the double delay one. I will do that one at a later time.

Bucksears - the Nautilus is on my list for the next batch (which will mostly consist of 3-5 big projects rather than a bunch of small ones).

Yay! Just saw the optical comp. Very excited about that one. I can't find an OpComp PCB period anywhere, much less one for a 1590a. Pretty much definitely getting one of those (and a Cave Dweller ... and maybe a phaser ...) as soon as the BOMs go up.

Is Mauser our only reasonable source for 1/8th resistors? They have a "size" column in their order forms ... what's the right mm size for the 1/8th watts we should use?

Well this just made my week :)

I got my summer builds ordered today (10 boards should keep me busy for a while) and anxiously awaiting a few of the 'Coming Soon' to go pre-order as well.

I'll pre-order as soon as the build sheets/schematics/partslistings are up, having boards and no parts (or the other way around) is very frustrating for me.........  ;)

Awesome! Can you give us any more info on these baby board projects? Will the compressor have a blend control? Is the booster based on any pedal in particular?  So many options...

opamp booster = Microamp?

if so, I will take several  ;D

I'm working on the Baby Board documentation right now, so I will start uploading them probably today. I decided to take the next week or so off from project development so I can get all the docs done and finish boxing up some builds and doing demos.

Couple quick answers
The compressor does not have a clean blend. It's basically the Flatline.
The Booster is not based on anything specific, but it's not too far off from a Micro-Amp. It's a very simple buffer then boost run off a split rail supply. I really really like the booster, so I will for sure get the demo done on that ASAP.

I'm way excited!

The Baby Board docs are all up. I will also be doing a general build/ordering guide for the Baby Boards that will cover the types of components that should be used. I should have that completed tomorrow. Other docs will go up as I knock them out.

Brian, the Smoothie calls for a 2N5952. I have like 50 J201 JFETs. Could I sub in the J201s without any other modification to the circuit?
Title: Re: 03.18 - PreOrders are available
Post by: madbean on March 21, 2012, 05:09:10 PM
The Smoothie actually lists 2N5457 as the default transistor, not the 2N5952. Fortunately, the J201 has the same pinout as the 2N5457. I have not built a Phase45 with J201, but I don't know that it WON'T work, either. You might check DIYSB---I bet someone there has reported on using J201 at some point. Vgs is rated differently between the two devices, FWIW.
Title: Re: 03.18 - PreOrders are available
Post by: ckim715 on March 21, 2012, 05:21:58 PM
Thanks. I do know of the discrepancy of Vgs, I think someone at DIYSB actually did use J201s. I figure I can just socket the position and try it out; worst case scenario, I just get some 2N5457s. Thanks, Bean.

I've built a Phase 90 with J201's and it sounds fine.  They were a recamended "upgrade."

i will buy this http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/Runt/Runt.pdf

and olso...if i don't do in this layout, can i remove the pot sweep of this progect?

Title: Re: 03.18 - PreOrders are available
Post by: madbean on March 28, 2012, 06:21:14 AM
Ramengo,

You can do the diodes switching on the Runt, but you are not going to be able to fit it all in a 1590A enclosure, I'm afraid. You can remove the sweep pot on the Slow Loris by jumpering pads 1 and 2 for the Sweep pot on the PCB.

---------------------------------------

All the documentation for the new projects is now available, except for the Collosalus. I have added dimensions for the Baby Boards PCBs in each document, and I have also made notes in the Slow Loris doc repeating this: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=4362.0

To do: The Collosalus will take a bit of time to document, but I am attaching both the schematic and BOM to this post for anyone who wants to get their parts together. Also, I will be typing up the ordering guide for the Baby Board today and tomorrow, so I will let everyone know once that is online.

NOTE_ There is a 500k trimpot missing for the BOM. That is for the Clock (it's in the schematic).

Thanks for posting the Collosalus BOM, Brian, that's just what I needed! I'm gonna get my parts-order sorted out and order some more boards when that's done. Damn, never thought doing this would be so addictive...... I love it!

For the Collosalus, I found 47pF worked best with the clock (most likely because of the clock buffer), but I do suggest having a 33pF and 22pF handy just in case.

I'll keep in mind to socket that capacitor! There's no dual IC layout (as in the porkbarrel and currentlover) for this one?

night-B  - I'll have info on the parts and hardware used for the build  in this doc I'm working on (actually the build tutorial portion is done---just gotta get the links for the parts in there).

pryde  - The Outlander is going to be a sort-of combination of an OCD and Zen Drive, I think. I have high hopes for it but I haven't even breadboarded it yet  :P

Haberdasher  - The Collosalus requires a 1590BB.

Does the Runt use board mounted 9mm pots? Actually, do all the baby boards use them?
Title: Re: 03.18 - PreOrders are available
Post by: jkokura on March 29, 2012, 08:14:20 AM
Not PCB mount pots no. You could use any size pots you wanted, but to fit these boards in 1590a's it's recommended to use 9mm pots.

Bean, do you have a recommended on/off resistance for the Afterlife's Optocoupler? I've got some NSL-32s left over, but the Vactecs are $9 now at Smallbear so I'd prefer not to have to use them if something else will work (they were $5 last month! oof).

Check the datasheet for the recommended vactrol. It will have the approximate light/dark resistance for the photocell.

Collosalus BOM from pg.3 is missing one 500k trimpot for the clock. So, you need 2x 20k and 1x 500k trimpots to build it. These are fitted for the 3362 type trimmers.
