Title: DOD Meat Box & Buzz Box
Post by: calciferspit on May 10, 2012, 08:10:45 AM
We need versions of these 2 classic, short-lived, underappreciated pedals with horribly labelled controls. Originals go for a fortune on ebay. I  miss these circuits greatly and would love to build (and tweak) them. Some design improvements like true bypass and simplified layout would easily surpass the originals. They are a noise maker's wet dream.

I don't know if this helps or not, but here you go.  It's hard to get solder side pics of these; however, i can if you tell me what you need to see.

Digitech will usually just send you the factory schematic if you ask for it. They've sent me several. And the response time is insanely fast.

And not that it's a very popular pedal these days, but I have drawn up a true-bypass version of the FX-55B that I plan to do something with eventually. I plan to do maybe the American Metal or the Boss Mega Distortion as well. I think we need to bring back crossover distortion!  ;D

nice.  i dig the nasty noisy especially with glichy bass. i notice that the vast majority of projects are "tone" boxes. but i seek out the wacky and vomit inducing.

There's a thread over at FSB with a schematic and the manual. Looks like it uses a non-standard sub-harmonic generating chip.

Love this bit from the manual (their caps not mine):
WARNING: DO NOT WEAR RED AND ADJUST THIS CONTROL ABOVE ONE O' CLOCK UNLESS YOU ARE A SERIOUS MATADOR

Another endorsement for the Meatbox from me.
A fantastic pedal for bass, now almost mythical status - could see it being very popular.

Cheers
Nick

This is correct, I just asked for the gonkulator schem and in the time it took me to make a cup of tea it was in my inbox :)
