Title: No name 4 in 1
Post by: Sigesmundninja on May 10, 2012, 11:37:30 AM
This is what I've been up to for the last couple of days.

effect order is:

Buffer - AMZ PCB
Egodriver - Madbean PCB (these is a DAMN good project! third one built)
Pharaoh Fuzz - GGG muff board
Neovibe - GGG neovibe board

Powered with a AMZ power supply PCB
All FX are powered with 9V except the Neovibe, it has 22V

FX order can be changed with patchcables if needed. All wires between jacks and 3pdt boards are shielded and all so the I/O of the muff fuzz. I used a board even for the 3ptd toggle switch that works the optional buffer. The orange led to the left pulses with the speed of the neovibe.

For the lightshield I used tiny cut mirrors that I glued together, The Glass-worker charged me 3$ for a bunch of them.

Now to the decal :D Since I had shouldersurgery 6 weeks ago and haven't been able to work with my right arm I had lots of time to draw this one up in photoshop. Emailed it to a company that engraves aluminium and had it made for the fare price of 40$.

Can you go into some detail on how you went about doing this.

Jag bugar för mannen på fel sida om Vättern!

Reeeeally nice. As i am fairly new into this whole DIY-scene these "bigger" projects actually impress more on me than the babyboard-wing of it all. Very creative and pro-lookin.

The enclousure with wooden sides, is it your own work with saw n rasp, or have you ordered it from somewhere?

Cheers mate!

Thank you everyone for all the response this one got.

The enclosure is a Hammond that I ordered from Mouser, here's a link to it at Hammond's site http://www.hammondmfg.com/dwg20CWW.htm
You can search the partnumber at mouser. The enclosure was pretty expensive and I had to buy a bottomplate separately. And after all that money spent I wasn't really happy with the quality of the box. The two wooden sides have brass inserts for the screws but on one side inserts weren't threaded deep enough. The bottomplate didn't come with any screws and while the enclosure did have holes for the bottomplate they weren't threaded. For 54€ I expect top quality for a simple black steel box with wooden panels.

but at least it looks good  ::)

As for the switching there are 3 groups of Input and Output jacks.

I used the switchable jacks that have two solderlugs at tip/ring/sleeve. When there is no cable in the jack these two lugs are connected but when a cable is inserted the signal betwen them breaks. I call these two sides "passive" and "active" So in order for the signal to go betwen the effects when no cable is inserted a soldered a wire from the "passive" side of the output of the first effect to the active side of the input of the second effect. (and same thing between effect 2 and 3).

If I put a cable in the input of effect 2 or 3 the signalchain breaks. This way I can patch the order in anyway I want. Except for buffer/egodriver, they act as one effect

I realise I really cant make myself understood in English very well.

I used these jacks:

I'll try and help if I can, explaining it from a different point of view.

Each effect still has an input and output jack. However the switchable jacks he used allow there to be a connection between the three (four?) effects in normal mode WITHOUT using cables. Just plug into the input of effect 1, plug out of the output of effect 4, and all the effects are connected in series.

By using the switchable jacks, you can 'break' the connection between effect one and effect two by inserting a cable into the output jack from effect one and into the input jack of effect two. Perhaps you want a wah pedal inserted there for example.

Taking it a step further, you can now make the order go Effect 1 > effect 2 > effect 4 > effect 3, simply by plugging a cable from the output of effect 2 into the input of effect four, then from the output of the whole unit into the input of effect 3, then from the output of effect 3 out to other effects or an amp.

Does that make sense? I think it does.

Think effects loop jacks on the back of an amp.

Signal normally flows preamp -> power amp, no patch cables needed to go between FX loop jacks, but if you put a jack into the FX loop it goes preamp -> FXloop -> poweramp.

Only works with Cliff jacks, AFAIK, doesnt work with Switchcraft ones.

That's awesome! I've thought about adding wood like you did with yours...
The switchable jacks were just like the idea I had for a big multi effect may do

The appearance really makes me think of a cross between a mini-Minimoog, and a Buchla... I'm thinking a bit of ARP as well. I dunno.

Are you finding the individual FX to play well together, and sound good in that order they're in?

Very impressive.  How is it powered, does it need a separate dc jack for each individual effect or can a single dc feed be shared across all 3 pcbs?
Title: Re: No name 4 in 1
Post by: Sigesmundninja on May 14, 2012, 03:13:33 PM
alanp!

Since I already have a Egodriver and a Muff build plus a fulltone Deja-vibe I spent some time playing with does three in diffirent orders and found that setup to be the best for my taste. If I want the Vibe before the dirtboxes I just use the Fulltone.

Hangingmonkey!

Its just one DC-jack where I plug in a 24V DC into. The AMZ-board regulates this into three diffirent 9V DC and a 22V DC that goes to the neovibe-board.

That´s insane man! Really inspirational too. I´ve been wanting to build a colossal one case-million circuits kinda monster myself for a while I now have the casing ready but this really shows all the things I need to take to count when I get to work. Just Superb!

I can hardly believe how much you fit in one box!! That is a real ultimate choice of circuits to combine as well. Man I'd love to hear that!
