Title: Warhorse probs
Post by: geekmacdaddy on June 02, 2012, 07:44:11 AM
Just one main problem at the moment. The lamp has never seen orange glow. LFO is working nicely as the LED pulses in time. Volume and Speed work nicely as well. I'm using a 24v DC power source, positive center, so I wired pos/neg backwards on the dc input. I do have the diodes in the "AC" section, but that shouldn't affect anything, should it?

Thanks in advance
Jeff

Sorry to be an ignoramus, Jeff, but what design is this? Do you have a schematic for it?

oops. I'm the old war horse. the pedal on the other hand is the warhead. please forgive. senility is nothing to laugh at. dammit. BTW, I don't believe the lamp is burned out. In the pedal, that is.

Jeff,

What you need to check is Q13, Q14 to see if they are getting power. Could be an bum bulb, too. What type of lamp are you using? Any subs throughout the build?

DC through your bridge rectifier diodes is fine, they'll just knock a few volts off. Your LFO is working so the power must be right.

As Brian noted, check Q13 and Q14 (actually, I'd just replace them). You can check the lamp by shorting the L2 leg to ground.

Brian-
I'm using your JKL 560-8099SB, and I bought the board populated (from an amp/pedal builder of great skill, that's all that I can say) and wired in pots/switches and wired it up. I'll check Q13 and Q14. Thanks.

oldhousescott-
Thanks for the reply. I'll check the lamp as per your instructions, then deal with Q13 and Q14.

Best
Jeff

ok. 15v on both Q13 and Q14 and I couldn't get the bulb to light up. Looks like that's the prob. thanks guys.

Last thing: the bulb trimmer is 500R, correct?

Hard to see but it might say 104, making it 100k, correct?

I'm talking about the GAIN trimmer. The value should be 500R. If it says 104, then yes a 100k was used and it's not surprising that the bulb is not lighting up :)

Unfortunately, yeah Brian. The Gain trimmer. And it does say 104...damn damn damn. got the 500R trimmer here...gotta wait to order a bulb.

Does anyone happen to have an extra bulb for sale, or trade?  ;D

Just a note to the kind folk that chimed in, and helped diagnose the problem very quickly. I now have a working Warhead filled with univibe goodness. And thanks Brian. I'm digging the pedal and will stick it on the board for a while to see if me, my amp and warhead act in concert.
