Ableton Live 9 has been announced (a very, very cool DAW for those who aren't familiar).
And for us guitar playing folk one feature stands out to me:
AUDIO TO GOD DAMN MIDI :o!!!
I have been dreaming about this kind of feature for years, and always thought it was to complex to realize.
Hopefully it will work as well as advertised.

Ya that is cool. I recently bought a YouRock MIDI instrument hoping it would be better than my old Casio MG500 but it really is not. It is different and cool but no bending and the picking tracking for fingerstyle is tricky. I also was looking for an Axon interface for awhile but since they stopped making them they are hard to find. Last there is a $100 guitar audio to midi converter box but it is single notes only. I also prefer standard MIDI interface and no Roland hex pickup requirements- the Casio has standard MIDI out as does the YouRock which is cool.
Hopefully Ableton 9 audio to MIDI will be able to work on polyphonic audio- that would be key for me- converting my altered tuning dual capo fingerstyle music to MIDI- :)

I was eyeing up the Teenage Engineering OP-1 until I saw the new Ableton Push, I think that'll be my next non-guitar purchase.

Oh my gosh no the OP-1 is so cool thanks for hipping me to that!! I'm tired of stuff that requires a computer to operate. If the OP-1 has full odd time signature support I will be giving it a good long look! Not sure what it has to do with Ableton audio to MIDI but who cares!

Yep that Push looks pretty cool.
I imagine its going to be damn expensive as well though.
The OP1 is definitely a cool, perfectly engineered, piece of kit.
But I think its a lot of money for what you actually get; its more like a 'designer' synth :D

I think Teenage Engineering had a Black Friday sale last year, I imagine they'll have one again this year and you can save a few bucks. I still want an OP-1, but maybe after Ableton Push. The OP-1 would be the perfect little cabin/camping DAW
I just found out that Live 9 Suite and Push will cost $1290 plus tax! A little rich for me, the OP-1 might end up on my doorstep sooner than I had anticipated.
when I had more time, I was really into using ableton for song writing. lots of sequencing and rearranging of parts, etc.
Ouch. I love Reaper, so good, so cheap. Free or 40 to 60 for Lic) Different animal I know but works great for writing and arranging as it can adjust loops really well. You drop in a new idea, loop it, set project tempo to loop, drop in other loops and they conform. I used to use Acid same as you did Live but have since commited.to Reaper. Mac, pc, linux, install, portable, lightweight, reliable, great user community.

I got an RS-7000 I still have for my "cabin" writing as it does odd time signatures. Still live the chop and remix feature but it is so big and so slow. OP-1 is so cool!

I asked if the OP-1 could do odd sigs and their reply: Yes! Both the tape and sequencer allows any time signature.
