Title: Kingslayer, Black bean, and the Pointy Titty Kitty
Post by: hoodoo on November 24, 2012, 07:43:00 PM
;D I knew that last one would get your attention.
G'day Madbeaners, Matt here with a few of my latest builds.
It's been a while since my last build report, have been painting my house, and i can tell you it's nowhere near as much fun as painting little aluminium boxes ;)
I've got to say, i think i've found my new favourite overdrive in the Kingslayer, used 1n914's and Bat41's and sounds great. If you haven't built one, do it!!!!
I will probably change the knobs when my next order arrives but these will do for now.
The blue led is hot glued into the red jewel lens and looks purple when on, hard to see in the photo but looks great in person, very happy with the look of this one.
The black bean is a green bean, sounds good too, versatile tubescreamer. I looked into laser engraving this one, too expensive, so it stayed plain. I've socketed the diodes to experiment a bit more with this one.
Last but not least The Point Titty Kitty is a Shortstack, Hotcake board JTN191's that i called the Hot Cat.
This is my 2nd 1590a and my first go at etching an enclosure. I built it standard without the bluesberry? mod. Great range in this circuit, clean boost to almost fuzz.
Learnt a few things with this one, I polished the box before trying to iron on the image, could not get it to adhere to the box, roughed it up a bit and it stuck, sort of. The original had the in and out and 9v, but they had to be filled in. I tried to touch up the name with a sharpie before clear coating and the ink ran slightly.
And i probably wouldn't clear coat an etched enclosure again, ends up looking like a dodgy waterslide decal.
Anyhow, back in the game now  :)
Take it easy,
Matt.

Nice, nice work. Great, simple style. That Kingslayer art is spot effin on for that. Where'd you get the tiny red jewel lens on the 'slayer?

Thanks for the kind words, i'm loving that kingslayer, great sounding pedal.
The little red jewel came from a local electronics store ,  it's meant to have a bulb in it, but i removed the innards and glued in a led.
Regards,
Matt.

Yep! These are all really cool. I love the jewel lens. Also, I like the Wildfire Effects moniker!
