Build Reports / Red Dawn...
January 11, 2013, 04:42:22 AM
Hey all,
Here is my second successful build. A GGG Red Llama board, BYOC enclosure. I tried building this on perfboard but it didnt work so I went ahead and bought the PCB...so much easier!

I drilled the enclosure and did the paint and graphics also using inkjet decal paper. The pics don't do the color of the paint justice. It is a nice red, red....

The owner of the local R.S. is one of the last real dudes....he helped me tons with components and has been a great resource..Thanks Bill!!

I didn't have the right ceramic caps so I used a 68 and 151 instead of the 51 and 101 that are recommended.
From what I understand this rolls off some of the highs, which is fine cause I am playing my electric mandolin through it and it tends to be bright anyways.

Sounds pretty damn good too! Although there is some added noise when I turn up the volume.

Done a Ross/Keeley clone and this....What should be next? Delay? Wah? I need both. Oh wait....a pedalboard....

Hi all. I am new to this so please be gentle....

(EDITED)

I built a little lpb-1 boost circuit and I need to wire the volume pot to it. Problem I am having is that none of the schematics I find show the POT/SWITCH relationship. Please help me understand the relationship of a volume pot to the circuit AND SWITCH. If I wire it up like this:

Where do I put the pot?

I also have a fishman preamp from an acoustic guitar that I want in the same box. The pre has a level and tone control knobs. The setup is for my acoustic mandolin equipped with a soundboard transducer. I think I want the pre before the boost? Not sure where to start with getting the pre to be "on" always and the boost on the switch with level controlled by the pot...sorry if this is a dumb question.

Here is the tech sheet for the preamp:

This is the boost schematic:

Thanks!!

Hey there all. My name is Jason and I thought I would show you guys my first pedal and introduce myself. I live in the Eastern Sierra of California and work primarily as a graphic designer and musician. Been building and repairing instruments for a long time. I used to work at Breedlove Guitar Company in the Early 2000's. I have been playing mandolin in a band recently and just finished a little electric tele-mandolin and needed some effects, so being a DIY kind of guy the only logical solution was to build a few. So here is the first one from a kit.

I did try to build a few from scratch, a boost and a red llama with no pcb....neither work, yet, but it did give me some time to get my soldering down better and become familiar with the components.
I did learn how to use my multi-meter finally. You can bet I will be posting an SOS or two soon.

Heres a pic of the mandolin. Thats another story, sort of a hot-rodded kit mando.

I am looking forward to learning a lot from y'all this next year. Thanks!
