I really like all these. I've done the Wolfshirt and Standard Fuzz and am working on a modded Kay right now (hope to get that tested soon, Kaycee!  ;)). How do you like the Standard compared to the Super Fuzz? Are they as similar as I think they are? I had assumed it wasn't worth building both but always wonder...octave fuzz is for sure one of my favorite effects.

The SF and the Standard are about the same thing. The Standard has a FET input transistor rather than the darlington config of the SF which I guess could make it a little quieter, but these things make such a ferocious racket it isn't worth worrying about. Some of the other variants like the Kay Fuzztone and the CBS Doubler have different tonestacks so are worth a look i think.

The Superfuzz looks great, nice brushwork. when I stamp over a rippled surface I do a coat or two of clear to even it out, lightly rub down and then stamp. The indelible stamping inks take on clear as well as to paint or bare metal.

Yeah, i don't like soldering to the back of pots or switches, so I now use a solder tag and a little nut and bolt. I get a small packet of them from Wilkinson's for 99p. They give a good solid ground connection and sort of go with my 'style'.

I'll see if i can do a clip sometime next week. as the octave switch turned out to be useful on the fly, I'll probably be changing the DPDT to a 3PDT so that I can have a bi colour LED to know which channel its on, if I've left enough room inside for it that is.

Thanks for the kind words folks!

Yes, it's alcohol inks and letter stamps on the finish. I want something to fill the Tonebender type fuzz on my board, I like the superfuzz, but it's a bit of a mangler in some respects and I don't like muffs so trying this one. For me it needs just a bit more sustain, might be my build though.

Nice to have an octave fuzz that isn't too pingy, the second channel is a beefy fuzz-stortion. Well worth a go.

That came out nice in the end.

Possibly you got the tip to use mod podge off of one of my posts. I've found that it works over some colours better than other, red seems particularly likely to run. The Ranger inks are the most durable. I now give the inks a while to dry then put on a very light coat of Plasticote clear enamel. It's water based and doesn't seem to make the colours run too readily.

That first coat is light, but complete, and don't over brush it. Once it's sealed you are alright to carry on with as many thicker coats as you want. You could probably use Mod Podge over that and then finish with the Plastikote, MP stays tacky and sticks to things. I also give the inks a coat before stamping as stamping inks can lift the alcohol inks too.

I hope the experience hasn't put you off using these, once you get the hang of them they are a quick and reliable finishing method.

I have a 1 Spot for my main board, and a 'Power Bank' DC9 (which you often see on eBay and Amazon etc) which has 5 outs for my testing boards.

Of themselves I find neither noisey, it does however depend on what you plug into them, particularly DIY stuff with LFO's or pumps and converters etc, sometimes it's individual pedals, sometimes combinations. I've never had sag issues with either. I find the 1Spot very convenient, just a plug and leads, it's very easy to swap out pedals as the connectors are daisy chained with enough length to accommodate most power jack placements. With the multi outlet PSU you alway find you need more different length leads that you have :D

I don't gig electric so it's just home use for me, the 1Spot is great value, if you don't go for it for your main supply, I'd definitely spring for it for a second board.

Nice build. Warms my heart to read the regard in which Rory is held.

All of the stuff I've seen of theirs has been of that high standard. Respect on both design and presentation, top notch quality.

I'm interested in using this layout for clickless switching. Can someone please explain where on the vero do you put the jack in/outs and the effect pcb in/outs?

Yeah, I've never understood how to wire this up either??

Italian stoner group, Ufomammut, slow, sludgy and spacey. Try the Opus Primum album. Loop did some slower tracks now and then, Gilded Eternity album is a good one.

Thanks folks. Nothing of note inside, my usual not neat but not a complete mess either wiring. Love the wacky old maestro units.
