I Love it!
I might have to use this for inspiration... I'm currently waiting for some MKII PCBs so i can build one for my girlfriends uncle, he's not been well and he's a massive Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page fan  :)

That will put a smile in his face, He'll love that for sure!

That looks great man. What font is that?

The font is called Kashmir, think I googled "Led Zeppelin font" to find it.

I have 51 pcbs I would like to populate and about 20 working builds I would like to box.
The list keeps on growing, can't seem to have enough time to build!

***Sorry :( I posted this at the wrong place by error, please move to the Build Report section***

Hi,

Here's my germanium tonebender.
Built on Stompdown's really nice board and using a AC125 set I bought from Paul (Chromesphere).

Used a Led Zeppelin theme, with Jimmy Page and Robert plant logos.

Cheers,

Ludo

Open Discussion / Re: First Names - we all got em.

Hi guys,

I'm Ludovik, a french canadian from Montreal.
I've been lurking around the Madbeans forum for more than 2 years now.

I'm not very active on the forum (other than a build report here and there,
and buying stuff on the BST/GroupBuy forum).

I feel like sharing a bit, so here's my story:
I started to play electric guitar when I was 15, and decided to go study
in Electrical Engineering to be able to make amps and pedals. In 1995,
when I was in Cegep (comes between High School and University here in Quebec), I
builded my first pedal, a Tube Screamer from a schematic I took from GeoFex. Made
a bunch of mods to it, unfortunately none of them sounded any good.

After Cegep, I went to University, but stoped playing guitar and building pedals...

I finished my EE degree, got a job as a programmer. And after a couple of years
working, picked up my guitar and started playing again. Even started a band with
friends at work for 5 years.

2 years ago, needed a couple of pedals for the band, and realized that I studied
in electronics to make pedals/amps and didn't make much of it, so I builded 4 byoc
kits and got hooked on the hobby. Not long after, I discovered Madbeans and been
building since. I'm only building pedals for myself, never selled any of them.

I've been working as a programmer for 11 years now. I wish I hadn't stop making
pedals when I was younger. Don't know were that would've lead me. Anyhow, I would
like to start my pedal company, but i'm aware that the market is saturated. So
now, I'm building as much as i can, to get to know most pedals.

I really enjoy hanging out here, and hopefully I'll be able to give more to the
community.

Regards,

Ludo

I found the stage fright quite challenging to box. So if the new collosalus board is the same size as the stage fright, I would probably prefer an easier 1590BB build.

But would also buy it anyway, cause I just want to build one.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

If anyone is wondering, the paint is rustoleum metallic deep purple.

It's so obvious to me now...Purple Haze must be the best color there is!

Damn right! :)

Think that pedal is why I'm actin' funny and I don't know why...

Build Reports / Purple Harbinger One
September 18, 2014, 10:30:33 PM
Hi All,

Here's my purple harbinger one.

This pedal just needed to have a Hendrix theme to it, being that he's my favorite guitar player and that one day I'm going to play like him... or maybe not ;)

For the basis of the graphics, I used the design that Jimi drawed on his famous monterey guitar. The leds were pretty hard to align with the decal, but I do like the final looks a lot.

The light shield is a used nespresso coffee capsule. I decided to use the 9V version so I socketed Q13 and finished using a MPSA13 witch did help with the intensity of the lamp. My first calibration was done using my oscilloscope so I can have the maximum amplitude of the lfo, but after a couple of days I ended up redoing it using my ears and can't be happier.

This is my favorite pedal so far, thanks Brian!

No problem Loztboy. :)

I used 1n914s:
There was a slight volume drop between normal mode and silicon (silicon being slightly lower), the harmonic content between the two was different (preferred normal mode).

When I removed the silicons diodes, there was a big volume increase (as expected).

I just past some time with my egodriver, here's what i got:

My leds (3mm red diffused Vf=1.8V) light up when playing and there is a difference between both clipping modes (normal and led).

But when I remove the leds I see absolutely no difference with or without them (did it for a couple minutes using a looper pedal). The gain and tone knobs are all the way up, and HP mode on the OCD.

Found that weird, so I've put silicon diodes instead of the leds and did the same test. There was a big difference when removing them, both in volume and harmonic content.

Is it possible that the Vf of leds is to high in that circuit?

I'll look into it today.

Sounds Great!
Love the enviro, make the colors pop.

Thanks for the kind words!

Sorry about the confusion, I've built a couple pedals before those (8 to be exact), but those where my first ones in a 1590A. So much harder to fit than the 1590B/125B ones.

This is my 1st build report, hopefully 1st of many more! ;)
