Hang on, the crocs! Is it Barry from guitarPCB?  ;D

Seriously, though, that's a cool method. Will have a crack at that, I think.

nice finish on that pedalenclosures pedal enclosure!
really nice build!
mike

Look at Pedalenclosures making comments about the finish on pedal enclosures from pedalenclosures in a forum designed to show off people's finished pedal enclosures. Cool.

Jacob

Where was that pedal enclosure from again?  ;D

Nice job. The rainbow of wiring is pretty!

The gold box with the white/cream knobs looks really, really classy. Might need to emulate that for my honeybee clone.  ;D

Something I've not been able to ascertain (probably because I'm an idiot) is what part of the LED to sand. The whole thing? It seems equivocal from the tutorial.

Much obliged, thankee.  ;D

General Questions / 9v Zener diode in the Slambox

The layout stipulates a 9v Zener. I have some 9.1vs knocking around. Will a 9.1v do?

Build Reports / Snarkdoodle
July 07, 2010, 07:15:31 AM
My second non-kit build, and my 6th build overall.

Worked first time, very pleased.

Man oh man this thing is so throaty! It sounds awesome, really abrasive and 'rude' but somehow not at all overly distorted, just up my street. A very interesting overdrive, in my opinion, and that reputed 'tube fuzz sound' definitely shows, although it's not got the sustain you'd associate with a cranked fuzz. I love it. Think it's going to knock the TS-808 off the board. Can't wait to hear it properly at band practice.

One issue, though, is the volume knob which, although I definitely have a 10kB in there, as per the schem, seems wrong. Nearly all the volume increase is in the first 10% or so of the turn. I read recently that Europe and America refer to Linear and Log pots via opposite designations - A means Log in one place, and B in another. How bloody typical. And how bloody confusing. So I wonder whether the issue it with that, having bought my pots from a UK supplier. We'll see.

Forgive the unbelievably boring and predictable paint and knob job ("Red Llama ...ummm .... red!"). At the moment I'm just happy to be making up pedals that work. The design flare is someway off yet.

Was slightly annoyed to have dropped the bloody thing as I triumphantly rose from my workspace to fire her up, and in the process chipped a couple of corners already. Still, probably my shoddy paint job...

Tech Help - Projects Page / Snarkdoodle - "SW"?

Stupid question coming up...  ::)

On the Snarkdoodle PCB, what's the hole marked 'SW' for?

Guitarpcb.com do a board for it. I've got one ready to be populated. Can't wait.

Am I allowed to say that?

Thank you!!
So I will check again (I live in UK, it seems more difficult to find all component and impossible to find a good encloseure)

Maplins do okay enclosures. It's the only thing I'll buy from them since they're so expensive. Also I just discovered Bowood electronics, who do 1590a type boxes - the tiny ones (golddust in the UK) and cheap too. They're Box002. But for your current project you'll need a bigger box Box003 or even Box 004.

Of course you'll still have to do the drilling yourself.

If you don't mind the wait, you can't beat Futurlec for prices.

www.futurlec.com

I often get WIMA caps from there as well as 95% of the transistors and ICs I need.

I hope I'm not thread-jacking since UK folks might like to know this as well...

Have you used the pots from futurlec, and if so what are your thoughts on them?  They are very cheap (cost-wise) but they don't look quite like the alpha pots I get from other suppliers.  Any good?

Thanks

The pots are proper Alpha ones, but they have pins instead of solder lugs.  If you use them, I recommend getting some heatshrink tubing, then soldering  and shrinking to make a really solid, secure joint.  If you tin the wire and the pins before soldering, you can pretty much just push them together and apply heat.

Does Futurlec still offer the pot value packs? I can't find them on the site. A link would me much appreciated!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
