Ah perfect, thank you very much Brian.  I am looking forward to getting stuck back into it.  Unfortunately I have forgotten most of what picked up the first time around, so pretty much back to square one :s

Cheers,
Phil

Open Discussion / Karate Shop 2012
November 27, 2016, 11:02:32 AM
Hello!

I've decided to make a return to the world of DIY pedals and have dug out all my old gear to get cracking.  Among it I have loads of old madbean pcbs, including a populated karate shop 2012.  So what better place to start?  I have found the archive files on madbean, but I can't find the 2012 karate shop only the 2015.  Does anyone have a copy of the original 2012 build guide?

cheers,
Phil

Same happened to me and I couldn't for the life of me see what was wrong.  The more mistakes we make, the more we learn.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: DC Jack Wiring Help

Quoteyou can't use those metal jacks unless it's in a plastic enclosure. they are not insulated and will short against the metal case. I made the mistake of trying those when I first started building. you are better off sticking with the plastic jacks or batteries.

Bugger!

I've already drilled two enclosures with those... At least I only have to drill out a bit more to get those plastic ones in, better than if it were the other way round!

Thanks guys!

I am in a similar boat at the moment, I have now completed a Slambox and a Zombii, both of which I am absolutely thrilled with! However I tried to run them from the DC jack for the first time last night and nothing...

I can only assume that I have the DC jack wired wrong.
Can anyone shed some light on the correct way in which to wire these jacks?

Picture from DoctorTweek's (hope you don't mid Steve)

I had this problem just this weekend while building my first DIY pedal.
It was driving me mad everything seemed to work, bypass, LED, the crackle OK pot even crackled very very slightly, but no output from the guitar :s

After much poking around, I concluded that it must be the transistor (I am a total newb and therefore I thought it was very possible that I could have burnt it out with my iron).

So, I set about desoldering the trannie (not as easy as I imagined, but I got it out in the end), replaced it with a fresh BS170 being very careful not to burn it out and WALLOP! it worked!!!

This pedal I incredible!

I am trying my best to paint the enclosure at the moment and will post a few snaps when I am done.

Stick at it Tenwatt, its well worth it when its all working :D

Yeah, that is seriously cool.
I think I'll have to keep on practicing with some simpler pedals before I tackle this beauty (need to learn how to read schematics and convert to stripboard  ??? )
