VFE Projects / Re: Klein bottle DB switches center position
« on: February 12, 2021, 02:52:07 PM »
* Slope of the HPF/LPF is set by the 6dB / 12dB switch:
  • 6dB: Modest cuts
  • 12dB: Extreme cuts (best for canceling out frequencies to assign specific bands to different loops)
  • Middle: 12dB/octave HPF and 6dB/octave LPF

Another vote for some sort of filter. I'd find a Baxandall or HPF/LPF combo more useful than a cocked wah, personally.

Or, a no-knob HM-2 with everything set to max (...maybe add a volume knob).

Open Discussion / Re: Tayda UV Printing without using Adobe Illustrator?
« on: January 04, 2021, 03:29:08 PM »
There isn't anything that specifically requires illustrator. The files just have to be vector graphics and the indicated colors/print effects (e.g., gloss) need to have the correct VersaWorks swatch applied. The attached .ase file can be imported into the Affinity Designer (or other compatible program) swatch contextual menu.

I hadnít considered the microamp. Thatís a good call. I think Iíll give that one a shot. Thank you!

Open Discussion / Full-frequency boost circuit for bass guitar
« on: November 06, 2020, 03:04:50 PM »
I'm building a bass preamp pedal and looking for a full-frequency boost circuit to put in series before the effect input. A simple, one-knob deal would be best. Is there a better option than an LPB-1?

9mm Knurled Plastic Shaft C10k Pots are (finally) back in stock at Tayda. A bunch of VFE projects use these, so I thought I'd give a heads up.

General Questions / Re: MOSFET reverse polarity protection
« on: October 10, 2020, 10:03:46 AM »
Great, thanks!

As an aside, why isnít this method of polarity protection used more often? Is it due to cost and the extra components? Itís more efficient and less destructive than diode-based solutions.

Thanks for verifying that. I'll send a message to DEFX.

General Questions / MOSFET reverse polarity protection
« on: October 09, 2020, 07:54:08 AM »
I'm working on a Laika V2 from DeadEnd FX. This circuit uses a MOSFET for reverse polarity protection. I wanted to get a quick sanity check because it seems like the MOSFET is oriented backward. Shouldn't the V+ input go to the drain of a p-channel MOSFET with source going to the circuit? Also, could this be improved with a gate-to-source protection (9.1V) zener?

Is this your first rat??
Yes.  First rat.  It surprised me, as you can tell.   ;D

I am extremely happy for you. First meeting that monster is truly a wonderful moment.

Thanks!  I'm quite proud of this build.

Tonight, I finally got to test its full range, which very much matches the description in Brian's build doc.  It has a wide range of sounds: searing/edgy/gritty/buzzy/chunky. You can coax a bit of smooth warm and fuzzy sounds out of it if you try hard enough, but it really excels at the opposite end of the spectrum (aggressive and bitey).
Seems quite responsive to picking dynamics too.  Fun circuit!

Is this your first rat??

Open Discussion / Re: Mouser Xicon Resistors ó New MOQ of 200
« on: September 25, 2020, 09:24:21 AM »
The enquiry seems to have fizzled out. Instead, I received a PO approval for Xicon resistor purchase in quantities less than 200 (albeit without the typical price break at QTY>10). Seems like this is the new norm. I'm not sure if other functionally equivalent parts (e.g., KAO Speer or Yageo) will have the same increase.
