Tech Help - Projects Page / Naughty Fish Help
August 04, 2014, 02:34:34 PM
Hey there,

I have a Naughty Fish build that I have finished but I am not 100% happy with it.  Im coming a from a big box Q-Tron, so I may be slightly biased.  This unit is much more snappy and percussive in the top end and lacks in the bottom end than my Q-Tron which is more full and round all the way around.

Is there any way to...
Increase the depth of the filter in Lo-pass mode.  I feel like my filter is not getting low enough.  If I am in the "down" position it gets really low, but when I'm in the "up" position, it only gets slightly lower than bandpass mode.  It doesn't get that classic low filter growl like my Q-Tron does
If i increase the sweep pot, it gets better, but still does not get into the territory I would like.  I replaced the Sweep pot with a 10k, which helped a tiny bit more, but still not there...

Also Is there a decent way to increase headroom of the entire unit and/or volume output? It is flirting right on the line of unity gain and would love some more output so I did not have to run the gain too high (as you can hear the clipping)

Just thought I would see if anyone had any suggestions.

Thanks!

Thanks! I swear I checked it a few weeks ago and didn't see anything. I may be blind!

Thanks again.

General Questions / Quasar bass parts?
January 31, 2011, 02:49:52 PM
Hey guys,

I built a Quasar and it is cool, but not for me. A bass player friend of mine has been wanting the Bass RC Booster for his rig.  I think I am going to revamp mine for him.

Any ideas on the differences in a RC vs RC bass pedal?

Is ii just the input cap or possibly more tweaks in the tone section?

Just seeing if anyone might have an idea. Thanks!

All the resistors are the correct values.  So far no solder bridges, but I keep giving everything a looksie.
This is one of "those" projects it seems like haha.  Everything should check out, but there is something just not wanting to behave.

I wired the trimmer as an outside pot.  Legs 3-2-1, just like the rest of the pots

Crushingly so eh? This is what I am dreaming of!

Voltage on both bs170s with gain pots down is 7.15v

Hey guys,

My Macheen I just built has pretty low output... aka unity happens when the Output knob is up all the way.
On a real Machine, unity is usually around 1oclock I thought.
All my pot values are correct, solder is good with no cold joints.

Is it possible one of the Bs170's is being finicky or is this just the particular design?

Thanks!

I had to open it up in Firefox instead of safari for it to read the updated version...too weird. Thanks!

The link still goes to a wrong layout with wrong parts. It is still the same.

I did just finish wiring it up and it sounds like poo lol.  Out comes the solder sucker.

No worries, these things happen.  Thanks for the update!

The Aristocrat page is missing the R14 value.

The schematic vs the layout numbers are all different so Im not able to use that to match anything up.

I do assume R14 is a 10k?

Also, there is no R25 on the layout.

Just looking for insight! Thanks!
