Open Discussion / Re: The Corruptor

Possibly a cold solder joint?  I just built two of these and they both operate flawlessly, like evil twins.

The caps (radial and axial), a diode or two, maybe voltage regulators, and any heat heatsinks.  May have to research the ICs to see if they are useful.

Sign of the times.  DHL has been very good with their 2-4 day delivery, usually arrives a day early, and well tracked.  Have had USPS deliver to wrong addresses on more than one occasion.

It ended up being the PT2399, apparently knockoffs.  Found some reliable chips at Pedalparts, now this (and other projects) work much better.

Yes, been over the board in and out for a week.  Audio probe, lead dress, components, etc.  Posting for help is always a last resort before I give up and throw it in the gut bucket.  I did use a linear pot, and also experimented with adding a resistor.  After looking at some other repeats/feedback circuits on other delays, I opted to socket the cap on lugs 1 and 3 of the repeats pot, and changed it from 10n upwards sequentially ending on 100n.  Settled on 33n to taste.  It behaves much better now, and I feel much better about boxing it up.

Thanks!

General Questions / Taming Repeats on EQD Space Spiral
November 30, 2022, 12:29:07 PM
I have built this modulated delay, and the repeats/feedback feature is very picky.  It wants to give one repeat up to about halfway where it will give more repeats but runs into feedback oscillations very easily.  Is there a way to tame this, maybe add a tone control similar to the Deprofundus delay or something else?

I socketed C1 to try different values.  That didn't do much.  Had to cover the two LEDs on the board and indicators also, as they were introducing light into the box.  The heads of each LDR are on the top end of the LED and both pointing straight down into the LED.  May look at those other caps.

I completed a tagboard build of the MBP WigL, from the tagboard effects site.  Works really nice, gets very juicy and throbby if desired.  Once I boxed it up, it seems the tone is very bassy, like the treble is rolled off.  I did not make any parts substitutes, am using 5539 LDRs and a waterclear red LED.  The 3mm diffused reds are isolated from providing additional light.  Wondering if there is a cap or resistor I could change the value of to brighten the overall tone up?  Unity gain is spot-on.

General Questions / Re: Basic PT2399 Delay PCB

I've built a couple of the Cave Dweller versions, some with mods and tweeks.  It is one of my favorites to build and play.  I even have one with dual time pots a.l.a the Triton.

General Questions / Clipping diodes in Cavedweller 2022
October 03, 2022, 08:11:24 AM
Hello:
I noticed a pair of 1N-914 clipping diodes added to lug 2 of the Dwell pot in the 2022 Cave Dweller schematic.  What is the effect of this addition on the pot's operation?  Oscillation?

Thanks.

Hello:

Can't remember where I heard it, but can tantalum caps be used in non-polar and/or polar roles?  As an example specifically, in the case of a PT2399 delay or chorus, can a tantalum be used for the 100n caps b/n pins 9 & 10, 11&12, or elsewhere where polarity was unspecified?  Where polarity is specified, self-explanatory.  I am getting signal passthrough, but there is a distortion effect which I think is something else entirely, but thought I'd ask the caps question.

Thx.

Was just a misplaced resistor to the op amp.  Crazy how many times you can look at something and not see it.

Vero Layout
#15
Hello:
I have a Glam Chorus I am building on Vero Board per the FX Blogspot layout for the MB design.  Second build for this pedal, first one works well, although there may be some differences from the layout I am using now.  I have been over the board verifying components, placement, continuity, fixing some errant solder traces, cleaned groves between rows, checked links and cuts, checked voltages, probed with an audio probe, etc., changed several chips out (both PT and Op Amp).

Originally I had chorus upon first fire-up for a few minutes, then lost chorus but had straight signal through.  After may last cleaning and run-through, I have no audio output, just bypass through my test rig.  I hear a faint oscillating tone on several components off pin 16 when probing voltages.  LED 1 also pulses, with a voltage of 1.83.  LED2 has 4.18v.  Voltages on PT seem steady and in line.  Regulator is working, and JFET is biased around 5.5, adjusts as needed.

Voltages are as follows:
PT2399 Pins
1  5.02
2  2.50
3  0
4  0
5  2.80
6  2.26
7  1.86
8  0.77
9  through 16  2.51

TL062 voltages, with the exception of pin 4 (0), are all oscillating between 4.43 and 5.00, give or take.
I have tried a TL072 with no change.
I suspect the issue is not the PT2399 and is some thing between the Op amp and out.  More checking and probing this evening.
