The standard wiring diagram will save you a to of headaches. Also coming from someone who just finished their first build, I would seriously consider using electrical tape on the pots and the back on the pcb. My first build had issues when I boxed it because of the pots making contact with the pcb. Good to ask to many questions I think.

Thanks for all the support. Also I am wondering what would be a great second build to follow up this pedal. I picked up a pcb for a mangler but I don't know if I want to deal with the positive grounding thing yet.

This is my first build. I know it's bit sloppy but it works.

Got the wrong resisters from mammoth when I ordered for R3 so I had to make a quick radio shack run. Also had to rebox and replace the input jack to solve some grounding issues I was having. Let me know what you think.

How have been looking for PCB's and layout for buffer circuits? I used a friends JHS's "little black buffer" and found it to be quite nice. Does anyone know of any good DIY projects that can produce simular results?

I have played a lot of tube screamers in my day and the one that I found that I most like is oddly enough the TS10. It would be swell if any tube screamer fanatic know what made the ts10 different from the others.

General Questions / -9v effects powering (Range Master / Mangler)

I was reading about wiring these effect and I noticed you can use a voodoo labs pedal power vs a battery. Can anyone explain how this works? Sorry for all the noobie post.

Please let me know if you find out anything about that feedback knob. The tap tempo is super easy all you need is a jack and two wires. You soilder the jack onto the tap switch on the dl4. I recommend taking out the battery compartment and using that space to mount your jack. I'll post pictures when I get home

Requests / Line 6 DL4 Mods

I have been working on modding some Line 6 DL4's for some friends. I have been looking into what modifications really make a tonal difference in the pedal. I am really open to any ideas anyone has. I figured out how to put on an expression knob and an external tap tempo jack that works both ways (the tap tempo jack is cool if you want to use the tap button on the dl4 to control another delay like a dd5 or something. I am writing up how to do those mods now. Questions.....

Does anyone know how to make an expression system switch. Adding a 3dpt switch with led. I have it to use a switch with an 10 resister but I am unsure how to power / wire the led?

Anyone have any clue's about tonal mods?

I found you can remove C1, C36, C23, C24) and reduce R36 and R37 will take care of the volume drop issue.

Hopefully I'm going to take apart one that already has some mods and I will post my findings.

General Questions / just getting started....where to start

This seems ridiculous to ask to those of you who have been building and boxing sweet sounding pedals, but since I am about to venture out on my first build and first parts order I am seeking help. I've been reading the forum for a while now and have found the courage to tackle an Echoplex boost, Honey Bee, and something slightly higher gain than the Honey Bee. So that in mind and help with the following questions would be super helpful. I sure I will come up with more questions but these are all I can come up with at the moment.


How do you tell which resisters, cap, diodes, etc to buy for a project? 
Resistance, Power Rating, Tolerance, Termination Style?
I'm guessing these are good link I've missed for this question


What are the best jacks to get ahold of?


What are some good projects to get started off with other than the ones listed?


Tips for someone just starting?
