Open Discussion / Re: Isolated Power Supplies
« on: January 17, 2020, 11:35:06 AM »
So in theory, Could you isolate the outputs of a 9v daisy chain (like a One Spot) by putting a smaller(cheaper) 1:1 transformer at each output?
Transformers block DC, so I don't think it's possible.
You could use small 1:1 transformers after another transformer to have isolated outputs, but I think it's cheaper order a custom transformer as the voodoo-lab one.

What does Quasi-isolated mean?
Quasi in Italian means almost. In Latin stay for like/as.
I hope they meant the Latin meaning  ;D

Build Reports / Re: Hey kids, you ever seen a real Muff up close before?
« on: January 14, 2020, 10:46:51 AM »
I like the creamy color of the mayo. Never heard a opamp muff, sooner or later I will build one.

My muff is a blend between green russian and ram's head, with germanium diodes on the third stage, and a less scooped tone control.
I use it with bass, it's a doom machine.

Fun fact:
The day when I discovered the second (or first) meaning of the word MUFF...
I was looking on google image for some ideas... I started from fuzz... muff fuzz, fuzzy muff, wool... wooly muff, nothing intresting... wool is a form of hair... tried hairy muff. DON'T DO THIS! :o

I have a question.
With high gain/fuzz/bias level I can hear a local radio. It's not a good radio, they stream shitty music, so, I want to remove this.
It is also very noisy.
I tried to put a 220p cap between Q1-base and ground, but nothing happened. How can I make it less noisy?

Yes, the loop jacks need the ground.

Yes, I had to adapt the base, but with a dremel it took 3 minutes.

Build Reports / The Cockpit - PyleDriver

This sunday I was bored so I made a fuzz.
I was curious about the GI Fuzz, so I made the pyledriver, but changing the name. I think that mine fits better  ;D

The build itself is simple, few components, pc mount pots, the graphic is minimal.
I don't like the 125b because it's too thick, so I reduced the thickness by cutting away 8mm from the bottom, so I don't have to lift my foot very much  8)
The sound is very... as you want, there are many controls, many sounds. It is still a fuzz, but very versatile.

Update (not so updating): I tried 3 different 6111 (different batches) and the result is quite the same.
If I take the signal at TP1 (using a 10uF capacitor) and set the plate at 15v the sound is a lot better, but at TP2 it become dark and low again, even with higher plate voltage.

Open Discussion / Re: Single knob pedals

My suggestion is whatever effect keeping only one knob and all other controls fixed or with trimmers.
Maybe a RAT with gain and filter at 100% and only the output outside. For some heavy drones.

Very nice. I like how it sound with bass.
Beautiful the graphic and the knobs of different sizes.

Nice job.

You found the problem.
330k are too large.
In my naughty fish I used 1k2 for R16 and I think is a value near the limit here.

General Questions / Re: labelling on a dark background
« on: October 12, 2019, 09:44:20 AM »
I made only one pedal with white graphic on black background, and it was hard.
I first painted the enclosure with white, then covered the "graphic" part and painted the black. then printed on adhesive clear paper.

It is the cheaper method, I think.

Open Discussion / I have a problem with a mixer
« on: October 07, 2019, 12:07:16 PM »
Hi all,
I have a Mackie 402-VLZ3 since about 10 years.
It's a nice toy, I use it with computer out, in, instruments and other stuff that make noise.
Mic channels also have the instrument switch, a buffer that allow me to play with my passive bass directly into the mixer.
The switch stopped to work, when I activate it no sound come out.

the buffers are the 2 opamps of a TL072.
this is the schematic (I attached the complete pdf file):

I measured the voltages:
1. -15.04
2. -15.04
3. -1.87
4. -16.30
5. -1.87
6. -14.96
7. -14.96
8. 16.05

I also tried to probe the output of the opamps and are both mute.
Maybe the tl02 died?

Thanks a lot.

PS. I don't know if this is the correct section, but this is not DIY, so...
PPS. Sorry for bad english. Any errors are google translate's fault  ;D

I have a room that should be a guest room, but... there's no space for guests  ;D

Inside there are music stuff, bike parts, all kind of tools...
My girlfriend says that I took over all the space, but there are also her clothes waiting to be ironed.

This is my desk. A friend of mine defined it the "MacGyver's desk"  :D
