Hey guys,

before I start building this one, I would like to run this by you.
I would like to build the Zygote with just fuzz, volume and the fat switch. So I´m thinking some jumpering is in order. Does this look good to you:

1. Omit C1 and jumper Strain pad 1 & 2 ( to remove the strain control)
2. jumper Drain pad 1 & 3 (to remove the drain control)
3 Place the resistor (specified by smallbear) for the transistor pair in question from the 9V side of R3 to the junction of R6 and C6, and and the other from junction R6 / C6 to T1 pad 2 OR 3
4. Omit the Tweak pot, B/M switch, R4, R5, R6 and T1
5. socket C4, to see if i like it with or without.

in my mind this should amount to a pretty basic fuzz face, or do you guys see any errors ?

thanks

Hi guys,

I´m having a little problem with the cupcake. Bypass is fine, but when engaged I have a hiss that responds to the level control, but no guitar signal at all. So I´m thinking the opamp is functioning as it should, but I´m losing the signal before it gets to the opamp.

Things I´ve checked already:

-Diode orientation is correct
-Electrolytic caps orientated correctly
-I started following the signal through the board, but haven´t got further than C2 (no more time)

I´ll try and find the time to trace the signal some more later today, but I´m pressed for time, because I´m packing for Vancouver !!

So, if you read this Jacob; I´ll be on your beautiful island tuesday. Sadly however, I don´t think I´ll manage to visit Chemainus. We´ll be on the Island for only 3 days before we fly back to Amsterdam again.... But if I do manage to squeeze it in , I will and will send you a pm or something.

In any case, this certainly will not be the last time we´ll be there since my wife has family over there. It might even become a montlhly occurrence next year if I get a new fleet assignment.

Hey guys,

quick question: Does anyone know if it's ok to use a B25K for the cupcake ?
And maybe what the effect will be using that...

thanks

Open Discussion / So I finally did it.....

...perform in front of an audience, that is !

Although that might not mean much to others, it was a major personal victory for me. This was one of those things that I thought I would never be able to do, because it scared me so much.

I was more scared of this than my first solo flight, getting married, or having kids !

It was two nights, about 130 people each night in the audience, and set up real nice.
It was sort off a recital where a number of students get to play a song with or without a professional band (drum, bass, backing guitar, singer). The setup was amazing. Lights, sound engineers, the lot...

I performed Yellow Ledbetter, and although I messed up a little bit on the break (exact same point each night  :-[), it came over really well. Afterwards I was told nobody really heard the f*ck up. Which I can hardly imagine, but okay.

The strangest thing was that all stress and nervousness seemed to disappear when I played my first note.

Now that it´s over, I must say I kind of like it. Me want more !!

Oh, and a madbean pedal was used as well. Not by me but my guitar teacher used a serendipity that I built for him on a couple of songs.

Hey guys,

I´m finishing up on my Deadringer and now planning the decal. I´m having difficulty understanding which switch connections, according Brian´s drawing in the project file, on the DPDT are CC, FM, or VIN.

I assume the middle position would be FM.....anyone have an idea about the others ?

Hi CRBMoA,

you´re the only bass player that I know of around these parts so I directed my questions to you, but if someone else has a suggestion I´m ready to hear it....

I build a BYOC Rat a couple of years ago, and last year I did some mods to it and gave it to a bass playing friend that was looking for the tone of EODM´s bass player. He loved it, and uses it all the time. I´m getting it back for some repairs though, and I would like to give him another pedal when I finish the repairs.

Sooooo, since I´m not a bass player....what´s the ultimate pedal for bass (diy) that you can think of ?

I would love to hear some suggestions. (I also hope they won´t be too complicated since I´m stressed for time a little lately..)

Thanks guys !

Build Reports / Sunking
August 22, 2010, 09:59:45 AM
hi guys,

I just finished my Sunking and I thought I would show it to you. I still need to paint the lid and change the knobs to some dark brown ones, but I think it worked out OK. Sorry I'm not as creative as most of you guys with the finish. I guess I don't want to be second guessing which pedal is supposed to be a clone of.

It worked like a charm the first time, and I'm loving it. It is a little bit noisy when you turn the gain up, but I guess that is to be expected with these IC´s.

I also included a picture of something that took a little bit longer than a couple of weeks. My new born baby boy: Aiden Ilja Alexander born on 9 August 2010.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Sunking gain pot
August 15, 2010, 01:32:50 PM
Hey guys,

I´m looking at my sunking diagram, but my brain isn´t functioning as it should anymore. This build my wife has been working on for the last 9 months, decided he was finished last monday (expect pictures soon, I still want to clearcoat him first..) so we had to rush to the hospital and sleep has been a luxury since then.....

Please help me understand which row of lugs on the gain pot  belongs to gain 1, and which to gain 2...

Thanks !

General Questions / Cap tolerance (Sunking)
August 05, 2010, 01:39:39 PM
Hey Guys,

I was just about to solder in the 820pf and 390pf ceramic caps I got today to replace the SilverMica ones (they were just way too big...)

Now I'm hesitant though...the 820pf measured as 696pf and the 390pf as 366pf.
Now, with the tolerance of my DMM (+/- 5%+5) it could actually be that they're off even more.

Should I hold off, and buy some new ones, or just try it ?

Of course, just knowing they're off will make me believe something is not right when I play with it.... :-\

General Questions / 392K, 422K resistors
July 06, 2010, 12:37:08 PM
Hi,

I´m trying to get everything together for a sunking build, but am having trouble finding the 422K and 392K resistors.
Not one of my usual suppliers carry those...

Can anyone please direct me to someone who stocks these (preferably in europe) ?

thanks

Tech Help - Projects Page / Sunking C8 and C13
July 06, 2010, 06:56:37 AM
Hi,

I'm the kind of guy that likes to use silver mica caps for when possible for anything directly tone related. But I was looking at the sunking schematic, and to the best of my knowledge, it seems it would be a waste to use silver mica for C8 and C13....wouldn't it ?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Sunking IC3....
June 14, 2010, 02:06:17 AM
Hi,

does anyone know if IC3 can be subbed for a IC7660S ? I can only get that one and the LTC1044, which I know is compatible.

Thanks
