Hey all.

I'm looking to build an A/B switcher with 3 TRS jacks, so I can connect one effect pedal to two expression devices and switch between which one controls the pedal via a foot switch.

I've built heaps of pedals in the past but usually work from kits so just hoping someone here can help me with how to wire it all together. I've found examples on Beavis Audio but they only show mono jack sockets which unfortunately won't work for my needs.

I won't be needing an LED so just need help connecting the 3pdt and the three jacks as per the image.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: Fixed the mistake in the image as per Brian's message below

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / Rolling my own vactrol
November 01, 2022, 11:10:06 AM
I've been searching for DOD 440 builds on the forum as I'm about to build one myself and came across this old post from Jimilee - https://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=26019.msg252490#msg252490

I have the VTL5C4/2 vactrol asked for in the BOM, but can see that in the link above, Jimi successfully rolled his own. I'd like to give this a try just for the hell of it but have a couple of questions I hoped someone might be able to help with.

Here goes - The VTL5C4/2 has 3 legs on one side and 2 on the other - 5 legs in total. If I'm making my own from an LED (2 legs) and an LDR (2 legs) then that leaves an unused pad on the PCB.

Do I just leave a pad empty?
If so, which one?

Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks!

Open Discussion / 2 footswitches, 1 pedal
September 11, 2022, 09:12:36 AM
Hi all

On my my pedalboard I have a multi effects that I use for a few rarely-used effects that don't warrant spots of their own on the board.

The problem is its noisy when turned off so I'm going to build a bypass loop pedal for it.

Question - Is it possible to build a loop pedal with two footswitches? One latching, one momentay.

Is anyone aware of a project or layout for something like this?

Thanks as always.

Hi gang

Can anyone recommend a circuit that uses one or more, on-on SPDT switches?

I've picked up some nice rocker switches that I want to put in something but I'm stuck for inspiration. I'm a fuzz man at heart but all recommendations will be greatly received.

Cheers.

Open Discussion / Bloviator RIP - Any alternatives?
February 04, 2022, 03:46:38 AM
Hi all

I've got a friend wanting a Sonic Stomp in a small enclosure . Now that the Bloviator has been discontinued  :'( does anyone know of any other boards that are available that will fit in a 1590a?

Cheers.

Hey hey,

Just wondering if anyone here had built the Noise Terminator circuit from PCB Guitar Mania?

https://pcbguitarmania.com/product/noise-terminator/

I've tried twice to build it and both times it hasn't worked (no signal when the pedal is engaged).

I was hoping someone may have made a working build and that I might be able to compare notes.

Cheers as always.

Open Discussion / To Eagle or not to Eagle
November 16, 2021, 01:29:19 AM
Hi gang

What's the go-to PCB designer these days? I've very limited experience with Eagle but have a funny feeling things may have moved on since the last time I used it.

All recommendations gratefully received!

Thanks

Open Discussion / This or THAT??? Decimator question
November 02, 2021, 11:02:14 AM
Hi gang,

I'm looking to build PCB Guitar Mania's take of the Decimator - the Noise Terminator https://pcbguitarmania.com/product/noise-terminator/

the BOM calls for a THAT 2181 chip but I'm unsure what precise version of the chip I need.

My go-to parts site, Das Musikding, lists 3 versions in the correct packaging:

THAT 2181CL08-U
THAT 2181BL08-U
THAT 2181AL08-U

These can be seen here -https://www.banzaimusic.com/search.php?mode=search&page=1&keep_https=yes

Edit: link doesn't work.

Is anyone able to point me in the direction of the one I need please?

It's the most expensive one isn't it?   ::)

Cheers!

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I might find a knob that has a diameter of between 7cm and 8.5cm? If you work in inches that's 2.75" and 3.35".

I won't be picky about its appearance but ideally just something simple like a large version of a Boss style knob. The largest I can find is about 4.5cm.

Thanks as always!

General Questions / In need of a knob
May 15, 2021, 11:08:33 AM
... well 2 knobs actually.

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I might source this style of knob in both colours? 17mm diameter.

I normally get them from Banzai in Germany but they've been out of stock for months and so I thought I'd ask you lovely lot of you know of anywhere else that sells them? I'm in need of 3 of each colour.

Thanks as always!

Open Discussion / Does this switch exist?
April 27, 2021, 02:40:32 PM
Hi gang

I'll try my best to explain...

I want to make a pedal with a mini slide switch similar to this...

but as I can't drill rectangular holes, I need one with a 'skirt' like this...

My thinking being that the skirt will cover up my rough chain drilling.

Does anyone know where I might find something like this? I'm specifically looking for an on-on SPDT.

Thanks as always.

Open Discussion / Rat board suggestions please
April 10, 2021, 01:34:23 PM
Hi gang,

I'm looking to make a multi pedal and want to include a Rat circuit but space is tight. Could anyone be kind enough to point me in the direction of a Rat board that is:
1- As small as possible (probably designed to fit into a 1590a enclosure)
2 - Includes a clipping option switch

Thanks as always!

P.S. I unfortunately can't use Brian's Runt board as I live in the UK and he's currently not shipping here due to Brexit issues. Thanks Boris! :(

General Questions / Suggest-a-fuzz
March 02, 2021, 12:31:01 PM
Hi all

Like probably everyone else here I "need" a new fuzz and was hoping for some suggestions please. I'm looking for something that ticks the following boxes:

1. Thick Big Muff style fuzz
2. Distinctly fuzz (not distortion)
3. Does the fuzz face glassy clean tone when you roll back the volume (so probably germanium based)

I realise I may be asking for something that doesn't exist but if anyone can point me in the right direction I know I'll find them here.

All suggestions very welcome.

Thanks as always

Open Discussion / Any Expandoria users here?
February 14, 2021, 05:56:18 AM
Hey gang

I really like the idea of an envelope based drive pedal (the harder you play, the more gain you get).

I've read that the Bixonic Expandoria does this but I can't find anything on YouTube that demonstrates this aspect of the pedal. Just wondering if anyone here has one and can confirm that they do work like this?

Any suggestions for other drive pedals that might fit the bill would be very much appreciated as well. I'm naturally looking to build my own rather than buy a ready made so extra points if there's a project available. :)

Thanks as always.

Open Discussion / Univibe suggestions
January 09, 2021, 01:15:43 PM
Hi gang

I'm looking for some suggestions for a kit for a classic Univibe please. I'm ideally looking for a maximum of three knob without any extra bells and whistles (no need for a vibe/chorus switch etc). Does such a thing exist?

All suggestions very welcome.

Cheers!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Squealing RAT
September 19, 2020, 12:41:19 PM
Hi all

I recently dug out an old Rat pedal I built some time ago. When switched on everything works great but when bypassed it's outputting a very audible whine. The whine changes pitch when I turn the tone knob and gets louder when (you guessed it) I turn the volume knob. This short video should hopefully demonstrate things.

As it's only affecting the bypass signal I'm thinking that the 3pdt may have gone bad so will try replacing it. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions before I start taking it apart.

Thanks as always!

Open Discussion / Reverse Killswitch
August 23, 2020, 03:05:32 PM
Hi all.

I recently gave my Strat a makeover and part of the process was to install a killswitch in place of the tone knob I removed as below...

The killswitch works great and is wired like this...

I've no idea if it's possible but I'm now hoping to install a toggle switch that reverses the effect of the killswitch so that the signal is cut until the switch is pressed.

Just wondering if any of the many smarter than me people around here could show me how I might go about wiring this?

Thanks as always guys.

Open Discussion / Another pedal suggestion please
July 07, 2020, 01:58:34 PM
Hi guys

Lockdown has really stoked my pedal building fires again and I keep asking people here for recommendations, hope you lot don't mind.

I'm looking to build a Fuzz Face clone with an added input level knob (so I can do the Hendrix volume roll off trick within the pedal rather than at on my guitar) and ideally some form of tone control. Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for an available PCB that fits the bill?

Thanks as always

Open Discussion / 3pdt toggle switch
June 17, 2020, 03:59:27 AM
Hi all

I'm looking to build a new test rig and would like to use a 3pdt toggle switch (rather than a footwitch). Unfortunately I can only find on- off on-on and on-off-on toggle switches. Does anyone know where I might find the necessary on-off version?

Thanks as always.
