Greetings oh esteemed Etchers...
Been out of the loop for a while - decided to give this one a whirl:
https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?t=5592&sid=9d4ea6a30be719cd423cbd0cc9632ebb

Got a prototype soldered up and it's doing this weird thing, where it's reacting to the input volume. For example, I turn the guitar pot up to 10, the sound cuts out, but at 8 it works. It also fades in and out...

Something tells me it's a cap issue, but I simply don't understand what the issue could be nor where to start. While waiting for suggestions, I'll review the schematic for mistakes.

Any thoughts? Dazed and confused,
phil

Folks,
I've learned my lesson on measuring voltages. I've got a Dimension P I've etched from a mask from Effects Layouts. It worked at bench test. After a test install in the 125B it stopped working. Grrrr.
So having learned my lesson I checked the voltages. There's two pt2399 and a tl072, voltage controlled with an lm78l05 trans. The voltages checked out at just about 5V. No explanation why the chorus effect wasn't working. Took it all apart, reflowed a few solders, rechecked the voltages - wow - 2V at pin 1. I sat back, thought about it for a minute, then checked again - 3V. What? Then about 2 minutes later, 5V. Now I'm scratching my head - AND I still don't have a chorus effect.

Seems to me I have a wonky capacitor somewhere. But wth do I know...

So - is my guess correct, or is there something else I should check.?
thanks,
pg

Howdy Folks,
Built a ts808 from a schematic. The overdrive is an A500K pot, it works, but the overdrive decreases as the pot is turned clockwise. In the snip of the schematic it looks like pin 1 is open. I've tried a reverse pot and switching the wires but nothing doing... Suggestions anyone?
much thanks

Howdy Folks,
Is there a way to avoid the RF noises when bench testing a circuit?

OK, got it etched and built. I have a signal on pin 3 of the TL082. I should have something out of pin 2 heading to gain,  but I don't.
arrrrrrrrgh please help. Wh am i missing?

Howdy Folks! I'm working on an ROG Uno from the schematic. It works, but when I turn up the bass or mid pot there's a strange tremolo effect. I am double checking the solder and components, but I don't know what I'm looking for with this particular problem.

Any advice oh etching wonders?

Howdy folks,
Built this from Effects Layouts: http://effectslayouts.blogspot.com/2016/03/klon-centaur-true-bypass.html#comment-form

Apparently it was built from FSB:https://guitargearfinder.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/klon-centaur-schematic-high-res.jpg

Works great except the sound is very (VERY) trebly. I'm really not certain how to deal with that, but I have a guess. On the schematic C13 is 820p - if I increase that will it reduce the treble? How much should I increase it? If not, any suggestions how to reduce the treble?
much thanks

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / ROG UNO troubleshooting
October 26, 2020, 08:03:57 PM
Howdy etchers! So I took the schematic from here: http://www.runoffgroove.com/uno.html
created my own etching template and put it all together. It works! But, it's rather 'bassy' (lows are accentuated) and the pots seem to have very little effect. The only way to get it overdriven is by craking the volume all the way. There seems to be not much of a range - not until we're near or at full volume does it saturate.

When I hit a first position chord,  E or A it get really bassy and broken up. Not knowing anything about circuts (I just put them together) I'm kind of at a loss...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Treating the copper?
September 12, 2020, 03:59:34 PM
Probably a silly question, but after the etched PCB is completed, soldered up, tested and declared a finished project, does anyone treat the copper to prevent oxidizing?
I've thought of spraying it with clear coat, but I have no idea what's the right thing to do...

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Zygote with Si PNP
August 30, 2020, 05:19:57 PM
Howwdy, I'm usng BC560 transistors in my Zygote. I'm getting input at the base, but nothing out of the emitter on Q1. Erm, will the BC560 work with this circuit?

Greeetings! I etched this one and put it all together, and it works. Except all I get is one echo. And it's modulating without any modulation circuit wired in...
any advice, please?

General Questions / Help with tda2005 amp circuit
June 08, 2020, 04:17:22 PM
Howdy,
Etched a pcb from xtronic.org for a 20w amp from a tda2005. It actually works, although with hard strumming or a hotter signal, it just cuts out. I think the chip has some builtin circuit protection, but as an electronic nitwit, I have no clue how to troubleshoot it.
Can anyone give me a hand?

Ricardo Montalban es muy macho, pero El Guapo? El Guapo no es macho, es muy guapo, muy guapo!
Seguro que Ricardo Montalban es muy macho...
Ok, just had to go back to old, old SNL. Here's my El Guapo. Since guapo means handsome, it would have been too easy to follow that direction. So I made my El Guapo the exact opposite! Behold, the ugliest El Guapo there is!

#15
Just finished El Guapo. Couple things - I'm not sure exactly how to set the bias with the trimmer. Do I simply ground the voltmeter? If I do that I can't get the voltage below 1.95 (at the TP).
The other weird thing is the signal just seems to fade out or stop while playing, and also drops off instantly when I stop playing (and/or damp the strings). This is my first fuzz build, mostly I do OD units... So not sure what to expect...
thanks,

Build Reports / Umble on a perfboard
December 01, 2019, 04:57:05 PM
Greetings Folks,
Just finished an ROG Umble on a perfboard, it works, but it's got a decent whistle and a hum (a few bars and see if I know it...). I'm still a novice at this stuff, don't really understand much (of biology...) or analog audio circuits, so I'm certainly bewildered (and bewitched). Can someone help me understand what causes a whistle/whine sound?
Also, wit this particular Umble, very interesting the whistle get softer at a particular point on the volumne (gain) knob. And the EQ knobs don't really seem to do very much, except make the whine louder. Thanks in advance for any help.

p.s sorry I couldn't help myself

General Questions / Mimik and 2399 IC - no voltage??
September 14, 2019, 06:03:26 AM
Greetings,
Folks, a couple of the 2399 pins have 0 volts. Dumb question - what would I be looking for to explain/fix that?
tx, pg
btw, great idea providing those numbers, thanks!!
