Open Discussion / CopperSound pedals
March 21, 2016, 08:04:39 PM
Recently I found out a co-worker is into DIY effects pedals so we have been sharing info back and forth. He sent me this today:
"So strangely enough. . .I just found myself on this site this morning, and they've got two pedals that look just like your Fatpants."

http://coppersoundpedals.com/gallery/

Anybody ever heard of them or know who they are? Looks like I've been KLON'ed so I need to remember "Imitation is the highest form of flattery"

Feel free to knock me off my high horse! Ok back to my hole....

Open Discussion / NGD - Starcaster!
December 04, 2013, 06:17:48 PM
Finally! I've been wanting a semi-hollow for a loooong time. Wasn't crazy about Epi Dots so I was leaning more towards a Sheriton. Then I discovered Offset guitars, enter the never ending GAS for an offset guitar. Stumbled onto Offset guitars forum which opened my eyes to the Starcaster. Everything I wanted in one guitar. When Fender finally announced it was re-releasing them, I marched myself over to my local dealer and ordered one. The word Starcaster no sooner left my lips when my dealer asked me, "Now why do you want to do that?" Ha! He was not a fan of the originals. Long story short, I ordered the guitar Sept 4th, got a call Dec 2nd to come to the shop. WooHoo! When I walked in (limped in actually, more on that later) the first words out of Fred's mouth were, "I am shocked at how much I like this guitar, makes me glad I ordered two!" Only complaint he had was that it was crafted in China. (boo!) He handed me what he considered the better of the two and I sat down with my new baby.
Everything on this guitar is 'Just Right'. Its balanced well, fit and finish were spotless, neck is not too thin, not too fat. Resonates quite loudly unplugged and sounds fanatastic plugged in. I have NO experience with original WRHB's and these new ones are the first I've ever tried so I can't compare them but I was able to get the widest variety of tones out of this guitar than any other guitar I've got. And beleive it or not, I've grown to actually like the headstock shape though I wasn't a fan of it at first.
Now about the limping. I tore my achilles tendon running backwards of all things and have been laid up with that since Nov 2nd. I had surgury a week ago to repair it, Doc said I obliterated it so I've been on bed/couch rest since it happened. I'm supposed to have my foot elevated to keep the pressure down which kind of makes guitar playing awkward. But I just had to sneak down and give her a spin on my gear when I got home. I played only for a couple minutes before I had to hang it up because of the pain in my foot but it was worth it!

How would this pan out in a tone wood discussion over on TGP?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Sea Urchin - volume loss
March 12, 2013, 08:34:38 PM
I've completed my Sea Urchin and it works except that I get a serious volume loss when I engage the effect. So much so that it is unusable this way. Everything works like it should except for the volume loss. My PT2399's were locking up so I have tied pins 3 & 4 together as suggested elsewhere. The voltages all look good on both chips and the regulator. Are there any components I should check or swap out that could be causing this? Or could this be a bad batch of PT2399 (from Tayda). Thanks for any guidance.

Build Reports / Holiday PIF Fuzz and Dr. Boogie
March 09, 2013, 01:34:06 PM
I was fortunate enough to be the lucky recipient of a pair of transistors as part of the holiday PIF goodness from JakeFuzz (Paul). Long story short: I stumbled into pedal building accidentally. I am not a fuzz pedal user to begin with but for whatever reason when I found out you can do DIY pedals I wanted to try and clone a Hartman GE fuzz pedal. So here is my attempt.

Paul paired up a Mullard era General Electric (the British GE not the American one) GET113 in Q1 and a goldpin HEC 2N404 in Q2 to get me to that Hartman tone. The only modifications I made was to add the pre-gain mod and socket C3 for easy tweaking. I shamelessly copied the Hartman look too. Enclosure is Hammond 1590D finished in transparent copper from PPP. This finish MUST be done on a Hammond enclosure! My knock-off enclosure in this finish can not even compare.

This is my first fuzz so I'm not sure what, if anything I need to tweak. Time and playing will tell. A big THANK YOU goes out to Paul for his holiday spirit!

I've got a Q-vibe board waiting to be populated and I'm trying to set my prorities. I've been hoping to hear/see some Q-Vibe demoes but I haven't found any yet. I presumed from what I've read in the doc's that the Q-Vibe falls somewhere between the Double Flush and say the Warhead vibe. Is that about right? I was looking for something that leaned more toward the vibe side - is that in the realm of the Q-Vibe?

Build Reports / Silver Fox
September 30, 2010, 01:22:36 AM
Here is my completed Silver Fox - well except for the decal but I couldn't wait... The graphic will be shopped to fit around the stomp switch. I haven't got to mess with it too much but I'll have my hands full with the 3 knobs and 3 trim pots getting it dialed in (I don't do well with lots of options - I never seem to be able to make up my mind...) Hopefully it's obvious that I was going after a "Silver Fox" look for the pedal. Fired right up to boot too! (well after I installed the IC chip.) Man what a sick feeling that is, plugging in for the first time and NOTHING! Thanks B for the great products - I am so hooked.
