Build Reports / Keeley Fuzz Bender
March 22, 2020, 08:30:23 AM
This pedal is insane. The most low end on any pedal I've built yet. It's a speaker checker. Get some good headphones or use speakers with a sub to really get a feel for it. Laptop/phones speakers won't do it justice. I'm love. Thick fuzz all the way to velcro city. I don't have a dualgang A250K so I used two singles for the time being.

Open Discussion / The Box

Do you ever build something and not really do anything with it after that? Not that it's a bad circuit or anything. Just kind of like, "Yeah, that's cool. Imma put this riiight in here." Then you move on to the next thing. I've got a box of completed circuits that's no take only add.

There are builds where I knew, right away, I'd never use them. Those aren't good enough for The Box, they go directly to The Pile. The Pile is located on The Shelf of Abandoned Toanz. Circuits from The Pile donate to current projects when needed.

Do you guys have similar collections?

What's up, guys? I've got a question about noise when using LED circuits in pedals. Specifically a fading/pulsing LED circuit using a 555ic.

The first time I used it, you could hear it charge up and drain and it clicks at the end of the cycle. I found this https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/threads/clicking-in-audio.22207/ and by adding in a cap across pins 1 and 8 it's almost silent; practically no charge/discharge noise and the click is all but gone. You only really hear it when the guitar volume is off while the pedal is on and even then it's really low. But if you've got that LED pedal in front of another pedal that's got high gain, it picks up in the noise a lot more than just the pedal with the LED effect. I hope that makes sense.

Get to the question, dummy!

Is there a way to isolate these things so that they don't hear each other?

Hey, guys. I don't know about you but I've bungled a few of these unforgiving little @#$%$ when trying to get the most usable space inside. I recently sacrificed a 1590A so that I could learn what works and what doesn't.

This isn't the end all be all for measurements on this enclosure. I'm sure there are better setups, I've only been at this a short while. But I thought this might help someone that's about to start their first 1590A as an idea of at least where to drill without trial and error.

Make sure you use the external power jacks, ever extra bit of space inside the enclosure counts.
https://www.taydaelectronics.com/dc-power-jack-2-1mm-enclosed-frame-with-switch-external.html

Use open mono jacks so that you can get them close together, also make sure you bend the lugs so they're parallel with the sides of the enclosure or they'll be in the way of the guitar/amp cable tips and the footswitch.

One thing to watch for is the little metal tab that's part of the Tip connection. Sometimes it sticks out higher than the wafer sections on the jack and could end up touching the enclosure and grounding out. If your jack looks like that, you can do this to slide it down out of the way.

Both of these jacks are good to go.

Here it is all put together.

Anyway, I hope that helps at least 1 person from ruining an enclosure due to a measurement error. Again this is not the end all be all, it's just what I've found to work well. If someone has a better setup, please show me because shoehorning stuff into these enclosures is fun/frustrating and if I can get a few extra MM out of it, that'd be awesome.

Cheers!

Build Reports / A place for my stuff.
January 12, 2020, 05:57:23 AM
Hey, guys. I'm new here at the forum but you might have seen me around on Reddit and/or Instagram, I think I recognized a few builds here. I think you guys all haunt the same places. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and share some of my favorite projects so far. I haven't been at this stuff for very long, my first pedal was in November of 2018, but I've built a lot of circuits in that time. This hobby has taken over almost all of my free time. I used to consider myself a woodworker but, over the last year, it's been about 90% pedals and 10% woodworking. I'm trying to scale back and balance my time a little better and get back to some woodworking this coming year. We'll see how that goes.

These are all vero builds, I'm not on the level of doing my own PCB's yet, so this might be a snoozefest for you.

In no particular order.

The Ripley II - Bazz Fuss with a pulsating LED. This was my 3rd pedal.

Galaga - Shoe Pixel with a 555/4017 LED chaser circuit to make the ship look like it's shooting.

Revv G4 -  this is my goto distortion (I used to use a Dr. Boogie but the G4 blows that away)

Nebula - Hoof Reaper - Doom central. So fun.

Stoned Rat - Turbo Rat -> Ultra Stoner MkII with the clipping LEDs moved to the front because I think it looks awesome (this is pretty much my daily goto fuzz pedal)

LV-426 - EQD/Sunn O))) Life Pedal (there was/is a ton of hype around this pedal and, don't get me wrong, it's heavy and dooms well but I'd take the Hoof Reaper over it, no question. Although I do really like the octave blend vs full-on Green Ringer/Tentacle.

And my most recent project was another Shoe Pixel but I crammed it into a 1590A. I really love this effect. Nintendo has always been my favorite console, I love the 8bit music. I've got an order into Parasit for the Sidescroller Mk2 right now and I'm working on getting the Darkadiator vero to work. I love the bitcrushers.

Pacman - Shoe Pixel

If you made it this far, cheers!
