I'm beyond proud. This is something she has always wanted to do. And to think this young lady also served in Afghanistan. I'm beaming today.

BTW, shes the lead, girl in red.

Open Discussion / First Unsuccessful Build

That feeling of turning something on and it being DOA.  >:(  Pedal PCB VCR. Everything went pretty smooth during the build. Pads seemed a little fragile and small. Voltages seem to check out. A real head scratcher. Being new to this my ability to trouble shoot is poor at best. Chin up, on to the next one.

Bought these on Ebay. Not sure why. Mostly thought it would be cool to get some stuff from Italy.  :D

Anyone have ideas on what boards to use these on? Granted they're fuzz transistors, so not many options. Thought maybe some of you experts may have had some experience with them and definitely would know more than I about where they would work the best. If at all.

8 X PN2369A transistor Mistral LOW HFE for fuzz pedals BJT NPN 15V 0.2A TO-92
1 X UREI 1176 Rev D transistor set 2N3391A 2N3707 2N5088 2N3053 Fairchild Hairball (Came with the strangest heatsink I've ever seen)
8 X BC369 Philips PNP transistor Audio general purpose 25V 625mW
2 X BC225 transistor SGS 30mA 100V 625mW NPN TO-106 for fuzz pedal
4 X BC169C National low noise transistor for Fuzz Colorsound
2 X BC118 transistor SGS 200mA 45V NPN TO-106 200MHZ for fuzz pedal

Open Discussion / Newbie trap?
April 02, 2021, 01:49:26 PM
It started with a few pedals. I have since fallen into a vortex of studying, learning and mostly buying boards, testing equipment, components, specialized tools, etc. etc., and the thing I really want to do, build, has taken a back seat. To date, I've completed 2 pedals. Pathetic. I have enough stuff for at least 20+. How do I stop looking for more pedals to build and actually build? I've recently started looking at 3pdt boards and am now down that wormhole. I'm sure I'm not the first, or the last to fall into this trap. Any of you old pros have suggestions on how to focus on completions, besides the obvious "just shut up and build"? If it were that easy, I'd already be doing it.

Thanks

Open Discussion / Anyone else verify this way?

My guitar playing abilities are slim to none. I'm making these pedals for my son. I needed a way to test to see if the pedals work, i.e., knobs actually do something, switches work, etc.. I realize this method won't give me the true sound of the pedal. I'm not really looking for that. I just want to make sure things work and that there isn't humming or anything else unwanted happening.

Soooo. Dry electric guitar sounds. Not very easy to find actually. After literally hours of searching I did find this site and it has a lot of random types of playing.

Next I have to play those from my computers headphone jack to a L2A Passive Re-amplifier.
https://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/products/l2a (Of course I bought the last one and he has an upgraded version coming out in April)

From the L2A I went into the pedal and from the pedal to the amp (Orange 35RT)

I have to say this worked great. I can confirm the pedal works like a charm, no humming, no cracking or other issues. It also allowed me to learn what the full affect of each knob is. Pedal on/off affect, if any. None from this one.

I really like the fact that I can play a minute or longer tune, and play with the knobs during playback.

Anyone else use this method? On a scale of 1 - 10, how big of an idiot am I to even try this?

-Kevin

Yes, I'm aware I could use a looper, but I don't have one yet. (One on order). However, like I said, I can't play for crap. This was the simplest solution I could think of.

General Questions / Quick questions
December 06, 2020, 05:44:34 PM
Hello All,

New to pedal building, but experienced in project building. I think I have most everything figured out, but have a couple questions. I've did deep dive searches but haven't found anything specific. Sorry if I missed it.

Does the power supply need to have a negative or positive center pin? (Building the Impv2 first). I thought I had this figured out but have confused myself to the point I don't trust my decision.
This may seem petty, but I'm pretty anal with getting things correct. What size LED is used? 3mm 5mm or other? I'm guessing 5mm but what to make sure.

Thank you for your help. Looking forward to building a few of these for my son.
