General Questions / 2009 version 1.5 Mangler PCB... ummm...
« on: March 26, 2017, 08:28:39 PM »
Anyone know what this actually builds?  It's only been 8 years...  I know it's a Fuzz Face of sorts, but that's the limit of my understanding.

More pertinently, does anyone have the bom/build instructions for this lurking on their hard drive?  I've gone through three PCs since I bought this, ha ha.

Build Reports / Firebomb (why do I do this to myself?)

Had some spare solid-core mil-spec wire kicking around, so decided to do some idiotic wiring.  Utterly unnecessary.  It does add a level of excitement when you've wired it up in a manner which makes it impossible to easily take apart, yet you've never bothered to test it before putting it in the box.

Thankfully, it worked first time.  Otherwise I'd have thrown it out of the window in utter disgust.

Here be the wee beastie:

And the money shot:

The front is the same as always, so no point showing that.  On with the retro guts!

Haven't found a decent led bezel for it yet, so the led wiring is still unfinished.  I actually added the board resistor, but I'm too used to doing it with the switch I guess.

Anyway, here be the latest build.

GGG used to have a pcb available.

I think it may be quite popular as it's a really versatile pedal.

Open Discussion / Dilemma dilemma dilemma. Which guitar to choose?
« on: February 04, 2011, 12:47:12 AM »
It's the best kind of dilemma, but an agonising one.

I have started to sell every non-essential piece of musical equipment I own as I am saving money towards what you would call a "dream guitar."

I'm keeping the Hiwatt DR-103 and its cab, but all my synthesizers are going, as are all my guitars save for my trusty Greco Les Paul Custom w/Bill Lawrence pickups.  I'm even selling my old "dream guitar"; a US Fender Telecaster Plus Deluxe from 1991.  It was their flagship model at the time, so it's a bit of a rarity.

So once I have the $2200-2300 I need, I'll be placing my order for the guitar I've been coveting for the last five years of my life.

Oh, but maybe this:

Or maybe this:

All of them would have pickups like the first picture.  All of them are functionally the same (constructed entirely of aluminium) but they look so different.

Oh and I can choose a neck length of anywhere between 25" and 32", which doesn't help matters (I tune to B standard in general).

What say you?  (Ill ignore your opinion when the time comes, but I want to hear anyway  ;D )

Build Reports / Drunken Kokbox *now with low-grade iphone clip!
« on: January 09, 2011, 09:56:44 PM »
I procrastinated finishing this for over six months, so I decided tp finish it at 3am last night whilst rather drunk.  The results are that I painted the enclosure really poorly and I couldn't be bothered to wire the board up in my usual ocd style.

It sounds very interesting; a strange hybrid of distortion and fuzz which actually cleans up rather well.

Realised I'd ran out of knobs and LED bezels, so it's a little naked at the moment.

Seeing as this is a site dedicated to the building of effects pedals, I'm intrigued as to what everyone has on their pedalboard.  This is a thread which is exactly the same as the ones found at HCFX/HM/TGP etc.  Pedal porn basically  ;D

I'll go first.  :D

The Danelectro OD has already been replaced since that photo was taken.  It's now got a Cream Pie Deluxe in its place, a kind of full-frequency rangemaster of sorts.

Nothing too out there, save for the rack unit under the big rackmount analogue delay.  That's a Sony DPS-V77, and is mindblowingly powerful.  The midi stuff is all just for that unit.

Build Reports / Been a while... Fuzz
« on: November 28, 2010, 04:19:46 AM »
This is a rehouse of a one knob fuzz pedal, which also marks my return to the world of pedal building after a fairly long break.

Shielded wiring, a switchable pot which works as a mid boost and a footswitchable gain boost which sends the fuzz to the brink of stability.  Fun!

I need one of both!

Build Reports / Mysterioso Jr.
« on: March 26, 2010, 10:28:24 AM »

Hot off the soldering iron!
Going to play with the cap values in the top switch; I think some parallel 500pf and 700pf ceramics would be good instead of the film caps.

General Questions / Mysterioso mods?
« on: March 21, 2010, 05:37:22 AM »
I noticed from Madbean's build of the Mysterioso Jr that C4 had been moved to a switch allowing it to be removed from the circuit.  I assume from the labeling that it affects the midrange, but what exactly does it do?

Also, are there any mods to allow more bass content through?

Build Reports / Poindexter
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:23:11 AM »
Here's my Poindexter build.  This pedal is one of the most enjoyable things I've built in my life.  It creates a huge wall of angry octave-y sound.  It also plays evangelical American radio when I stop playing  ;D

The extra switch is to swap between 1n34a diodes and red 3mm leds - worthwhile as it allows you to dial in a more modern "chug" sound.

Build Reports / Macheen
« on: March 19, 2010, 07:19:11 AM »
Here's my recently-completed Macheen.

Note the immense size of the 100uf cap.  It's only rated 25v, but it's huge.

I love the red pcb, too.  Cheers Mr Bean
