Not sure if this post should be in the tech help or mods section but here goes:
Just wondering if anyone has seen a diagram for installing a circuit pre/post switch so for example, you could place a boost circuit in front of an overdrive for more gain or after it for a level boost???
Cheers guys!  ;D

Hi all, smallbear sell a 10k/100Ohm carbon comp resistor set specifically for upgrading the TS. Just wondering which 10k resistor this is supposed to be on the Green Bean build?  ???

Hi all, I'm about to start my serendipity board and was wondering is it possible to include a 3 position switch to do the diode/LED/lift thingy? If so, what would I need to make this happen, and how would I do it... (essentially I'm after the Zenkudo flavour of Zendrive)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Cupcake tone
March 06, 2012, 11:27:39 AM
Hi guys, really liking the cupcake but I've never actually heard an orange squeezer to compare it to... I'm told the classic Knopfler tone is in part to the OS. Anyway, my build sounds like the top end has been shaved off a little, so was wondering if there's anyway to add some brightness back into it? A mod, or even adding a tone control?  ???

Hi guys, just wondering if there's a way to do the diode/LED/none clipping switch on the serendipity?  ???

Hi all, just after some advice with the chunk chunk board I've just built. This is my 2nd Chunk Chunk to date - built for a mate as a trade for a Fernandez Sustainer kit. Anyway, used shielded wire this time for the board in and out, as well as switch in and out... definately worth it... cleans up so much of the noise! I've used a simple 100ohm + 100uf cap on the DC jack as power filtering. And biased all the jfets to 4.25v, then reduced trimmer 1 untill the oscillation went away (with the vol and gain all the way up). The pedal works fine on a battery, however when I plugged the 9v wall adapter in the pedal squeals... Just wondering what should the next step be? Do I need to re-bias? What would cause the noise when it's generally quiet from the battery? Thanks for your help, guys.  ;)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Chunk Chunk voltages
July 30, 2011, 05:16:19 AM
Hey all, yet another question... After posting some questions in another section regarding the overall background noise of the Chunk Chunk build it has come to my attention that some of this can be removed by turning back the trimmers. I guess it has to be done by ear, but I should probably ask what are the minimum voltage readings on the jfet drains that I can get away with? Anybody tried this method? Did you take readings? Thanks to everybody who's helped me!

Hi all, just finished building the Cival War version Mudbunny out of parts I had spare. Only resistor that I didn't have was R2 - 39k, so I subbed a 47k, my next nearest. The pedal works fine (although the footswitch is a little dodgy), however I'd like to know what effect changing R2 would have on the tone? ???

Open Discussion / Some noob questions
July 27, 2011, 01:18:31 AM
'Good Lord' I hear you all say, not more newbie questions! lol But you guys are like the brains trust of pedal building so I'm gonna get a few questions off my chest. Firstly I've successfully built about 15 pedals, but it's all been "paint-by-numbers" so to speak... Just wish I understood more! Anyway, here's a couple of questions for you all:
1. What are the advantanges and disadvantages of using open and enclosed 1/4" jacks? The reason I ask is that olc seems to use the enclosed type... thought it might be better for high-gain pedals?
2. Would a dying battery simulator mod be good in pedals other than fuzz type? (for example to add power sag to the Dr.Boogie - preamp in a box type)
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using rc power filtering on the DC jack?
4. My Chunk Chunk build is a little noisey. I've twisted the battery and DC power leads (and kept them short), added an rc filter, and used shielded wire on the input to the pcb... I assume noise is hard to keep down in a pedal with that much gain but any help would be appreciated as I thought I took all required steps  ???

Thanks so much guys, and of course Brian for all the hard work and the best site on the net! (p.s I still wanna see a Zenkudo/Dumkudo clone in the future! lol)

General Questions / Splitter box
March 16, 2011, 12:33:04 PM
Quick noob question guys... If I'm using a buffered fx pedal and I want to split the signal into 2 outputs running simultaneously, does the splitter box also have to be buffered or can I simply do the old trick of one input jack wired to 2 output jacks passively?  ???

Requests / Zenkudo/Dumkudo
March 13, 2011, 11:58:46 AM
Hey all, I know there's a Zenkudo schem out there... not sure if anybody has cloned it yet though??? From what I gather (and I'm a noob) these pedals are based on the Zendrive with 3 switchable clipping options, with the Dumkudo having the higher gain of the 2. Maybe this could be modded into the serendipity??? I love Tanabe's 2 in 1 pedal idea with both the zen and dum in the one box...  8) So how about a board, Bean??? Pretty please?????

Hi guys (and gals?), I've just ordered 4 pcbs... Fatpants, Cupcake, Glitterrattii, and Quasar. I've had experience building and modding Epiphone Valve Junior amps and other paint-by-numbers effects pedals, so my soldering is getting better all the time (still a long way to go though). I'm confident I'll be able to handle these builds (with a little help from you guys), but I'm having a little difficulty getting a parts list together. I'd prefer to order everything from Smallbear but it seems, they may be missing a few items... In the case of the Fatpants build, it's the IC and Electrolytic caps rated for 25v and over... Anyway, here's the shopping cart I've come up with, just wondering if I could get some of you more experienced builders to check it fr me (and other newbies searching this forum):

I assume that the Silver Mica cap would be an acceptable alternative for the ceramic disc type? Anyway, I hope I'm close with this list... Now I just need to find the electro caps rated for over 25v (I've included the 16v caps listed on Smallbear - but I wont purchase untill I get confirmation from you guys), and where to find the TC1044 IC.... Hmmm, hope this helps others in the same confused state as me! ha ha Thanks so much in advance guys... Soon I'll make purchase lists for the other effects too. Cheers!
