Mods / My Weird Weener...
June 17, 2012, 08:18:24 PM
Ok, for those that like to like to constantly like to make changes to the pedalboard, I found that adding more controls to my wah allows me to make slight adjustmentsand nail the 'magic' sound without the need of opening up the pedal. So here are the mods I introduced to my wiener:
Changed C1 to 0.01n
Changed C3 to 0.33n
Changed C5 to 0.022n
Changed C6 to 0.01n
These changes bring the wah to a more classic vintage tone.
Also, for the fine controls outside the shell:
Substituted R4 with a 1k pot installed outside the case to adjust gain.
Substituted R5 with a 2k pot installed outside the case with a 2k resistor in series to adjust the bass to treble transition of the wah (smoothness).
Substituted R2 with a 100k pot installed outside the case to adjust volume.
Moved the frequency trimpot outside the shell. I found this control quite useful for final fine-tuning of the wah.
The end result... I love it! With this controls outside the case I can quickly make the desired adjustments to the wah when I change the pedalboard. Also, I love being able to adjust the gain with just a quick twist of a nob.
I used an old crybaby case and mounted two pots on each side of the case towards the front of the pedal. The buffer switch is mounted towards the back of the pedal but I keep it on most of the time.
Another tweaks..true bypass switch and on/off LED.
Hope this helps!

General Questions / CAE Preamps?
December 04, 2011, 05:10:08 PM
Hi! I'd like to start experimenting with preamps. I tried a Strat with a Clapton boost and it gives you a nice range of tone. I never tried the CAE but I heard they are very good. However...I cannot find any info about schematics. Anybody has any info on these? Thanks! m

Build Reports / Sunking Vs. Klon Report
November 10, 2011, 04:06:34 PM
Hi There,
Yesterday I had the opportunity to get my hands on a real Klon (Gold Version) for a few hours. I heard many different opinions about how the sunking compares to the real thing...well, I was able to do my own comparison. I run the test with a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender American Standard, thru 4 different 100W heads: Fuchs, Marshall Silver Jubilee, Diaz and a Soldano with cabinets loaded with Celestions V30. I compared any king of combo you can think of, both clean and dirty channels on the amps and tweaking the knobs on the pedals.
After a few hours of comparing and trying to find a difference between the pedals, I concluded that the Sunking is dead on. You cannot tell the difference between the two pedals at all, at least on my build.
Thank you Brian for bringing this project to us! No point at all for spending big bucks!
Hope this help you guys!

General Questions / Retrograde with more octave
November 05, 2011, 03:41:54 PM
Hi there! I posted this question in an old tread but nobody answer. So I am trying again. I build hate Retrograde, all is good, the fuzz part sounds great, but the octave part is a bit weak. Definitely there, but weak. I tried changing components to different values, I added a pregain to the fuzz to see if reducing the fuzz makes the octave stand out more, tried humb and single coil pickups, increase the supply voltage a bit...nothing seems to make a difference. I seach the net for comments/suggestions but nothng.
any tricks to increase the sound of the octave part of hate circuit? Thanks! m

Tech Help - Projects Page / Zygote B/M & Tweak Control
October 31, 2011, 02:19:15 AM
Hi there,

I finished my Zygote...sounds amazing! I love it. All seems to be working fine, but I cannot notice any differences when I flip the B/M switch and/or when messing with the tweak pot. I check the components associated with this part of the circuit, test the pot, change the resistors, change the pot, but nothing seems to make a difference. Looking at this circuit, it looks like this part is very simple, just adding more resistance to the circuit.
Any suggestions? anybody having the same issue? I am giving up on this one....
Thanks!

Tech Help - Projects Page / sunking high pitch noise
February 22, 2011, 04:47:32 AM
hi!
just finished a few projects today (rangemaster, snarkdoodle, krankosaurus & sunking). all of them sound great. but i have a problem with the sunking. although everything works fine and the sound is pretty good, there is a low but noticeable high pitch sound that it is pretty much constant, no matter the knobs position (although the frequency varies a little while fuzzing wiht hte knobs). reading a couple of articles I think it may be a 'leaky' capacitor.
However, I have no idea how to test the capacitors for leaks.
anyone had this problem before? any advise?
thank you guys!

Hi all,
New to this forum. I just finished building the sunking and I am having some issues. First of all, the tone control appears to do nothing. rolling the pot does not have any effect in the sound. i looked at the board over and over and measured all components and everything seems to be ok. i am lost here. any idea where the problem could be (the pot works fine).
the other thing I noticed is that when I kick the switch on, i takes a little time for the pedal to kick in (a little delay with no sound). I am wondering if the two problems are related. any idea????? help!!!
thanks!
