Open Discussion / NGD! 8ft V4 stack!
May 24, 2013, 09:06:11 AM

Finally finished this beast. 8 feet of sonic destruction.

Top cab is an ampeg V4 with CTS from 1973, bottom cab is an oversized ampeg 4x12 with 2 EV12L and 2 hellatone 60 in an X array.

Head is a 1975 Ampeg V4 with smoke glass 6550 tubes, and a full telefunken ecc803s preamp with a telefunken 12dw7.

All i need to do is plug in 1 pedal and sounds amazing. I love this thing.

Anyone got anything they could recommend?

I was debating trying the Vitamin T out?

Have a fairly in depth effect I need to draw as 2 effects on the same board, was wondering if it was possible to draw them as seperate schematics in the same file, then lay out the board and split them apart in the layout per side. It looks like it wants to route them all together though. Trying to do this to save a few bucks on making boards.

I recall my Aristocrat board was done this way if I am not mistaken.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone got this by any chance? I am trying to do a layout and it needs this chip but I cannot find it anywhere online....
Any help appreciated!
Thanks.

How do you think that would work? Ive had the idea of using the Sweep pot as foot controlled, with all the switches and pots wired to be external controls?

Open Discussion / Question about a schematic(Boss HM2)
December 30, 2012, 01:51:20 PM
I made a board in EAGLE to see how this schematic would sound vs the 3 HM2 pedals I have here, and I am having touble with the sound going dead after 2sk30 transistor. I cant find any info about a replacement for the 2SC2240 and the 2SA970 pinouts...I was thinking I could use BC550 or 2n3904/2n3906 matched? I have a small ammount of 2sk30s here for Q1....just wondering if this schematic looks like it even makes any sense and would work? http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schematics/audio/pictures/bosshm2.gif

As opposed to this one, which is the original Japanese HM2 schematic? http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/s/hm2-heavy-metal.php

General Questions / Muff sounding gated after q4....
November 16, 2012, 04:04:59 PM
OK so I made a 4 knob muff PCB , driving 1st clipping stage with LEDs and second stage on a switch to be either LED/Silicon or germanium.  I am using SE4010 transistors. PCB works fine on other units,  now, I am having a problem with something someone may be able to help on.

I made 4 that sound 100% fine, but someone hooked up an 18v supply to one and q4 is making unit not sustain. Almost clipping off the frequency like a power starve is in effect.

Swapped q4 and q3 and unit gates almost instantly, sort of like a Zvex fuzz factory.

Possibly blown transistor? Possibly blown components? Unit is not in front of me so I cant test just yet, just trying to get a head start so I can possibly redesign board if I did something wrong.

I am having them mail the unit back to me to troubleshoot it but I am wondering what could cause this in a muff circuit so I do not have this problem again.

Any help is appreciated.

b10c470? Tried a B10K and sounded terrible. Tried a 500Ck sounded terrible. Put a A500K in there and only gets gain at last 1/4 turn of pot. Tried 500Kb and only distorted at from a little past noon.

Anyone got any ideas? I cant find anything about this pot and Im trying to see if I have anything on hand that would work.

Im sure the A pot with the effect happening last 1/4 turn is from wrong taper.

Thanks in advance!

Need to repair em, I have one with an SAD4096, and 2 with the Reticon chips. Anyone ever work on one of these?   They seem pretty rad with the transformer and everything.

Also got about 6 Digitech Echo plus units all with different problems.

Guess Ill make this thread my troubleshooting in case anyone ever needs help fixing one.

Chat away! ;D

Open Discussion / Props to Smallbear
October 26, 2012, 10:25:01 PM
I just want to take a minute to give a killer review to Steve Daniels at small bear. He personally called me because I placed a major parts order of alot of parts gone obsolete/No longer in production for the initial run for my FX companies initial line and was letting me know I got the last of the stock and will have to find alternatives to some components/source them elsewhere.

This is just good customer service and is a reminder that some things arent around forever and that when you see rare stock, Buy em up because you never know if youll ever see em again.

On a side note, I am looking for at least 200 SE4010 transistors for a run of 50 pedals. Anyone got any leads that arent 12.50 a piece?

General Questions / using a Cricut to cut pcb boards?
October 01, 2012, 05:47:58 PM
Found a hackerspace out here in Austin, they seem to be using a Cricut die cutter to etch PCB boards.

Anyone on here have any EXP doing this vs the toner transfer method?

Reliability ETC?

Heres the link.

Mods / Op Amp Switching/stacking?
June 01, 2012, 07:47:26 AM
Using stripboard, Ive been working on something that would allow Op Amp switching between 2 different op amps for a Rat pedal...anyone ever mess with this? I want to have the ability to switch between an OP07 and an LM308 in the same box. One of my friends asked about it so Im trying to figure out how to do it. any ideas?

Its not totally quiet, but it isnt as loud as Id expect, and swapping out diodes for clipping doesnt make any difference in tone? Any ideas? I made it to Mayo specs, and tried both bc550 trannys, and the 2n5088 with the same results. Pulling the Q3 and Q4 causes no difference in sound, but pulling Q1 and Q2 make it go silent, Test everything on the multi meter and it looks like power is going everywhere, including Q3 and Q4?

I made 2 of them to double check I didnt do something wrong, I think there may be a problem with the boards themselves. I wired up one and all it does is oscilate, another one oscilates but then it dims the LED when I turn the volume knob? Checked everything and it all seems fine parts wise.

Mods / Mods on Mudbunny board...
May 05, 2012, 07:58:39 PM
It should be possible to biuld a modded Sanford and Sonny bluebeard using this board correct? As well as an Earthbound Audio Supercollider? I have some ideas for the boards I got to make a few variations, and Im trying to figure out where to add the extra pots for a Super Collider....

Running it dry into my amp it delays, all controls work great etc but it gets almost a low fuzz sound to it? I used an electrolytic cap in C14 instead of a tantalum since I didnt have one handy, would that be the cause? Solder is flowed and clean...just wondering if anyone else is getting this effect?
Thanks. Joe

Tech Help - Projects Page / Chunk Chunk problem...
March 27, 2012, 10:52:15 AM
sound goes through the pedal when not engaged, but, all Im getting is a low hiss out of it. nothing is grounding, all the pots are wired right as I can hear the gain going up and down and well as the overall volume, and the the bass treble mid and presence are all doing what they should, just no guitar sound traveling through just a weird hiss. When I bias the trimpots, its making a crackling sound and you can hear the transistors changing sound as well so all of the trimpots are doing what they should. Any ideas? Reflowed the board, I used a few parts close to the listed values due to not having the exact ones on hand but I have done this before with no problems? Going to try different transistors but I dont think that is the problem.

Works, but doesnt sound like its switching between the clipping on the switch, and the output is extra low. Cant tell if the switch is working properly though until I get the volume situated. Any ideas? Also not geting enough power to light the LED for some reason, it lights and then drops down and goes out. Odd.

Finally getting around to wiring these 2 up and the PDF are no longer online?
Can you email them to me if possible? Thanks
