Open Discussion / NGD again
April 23, 2024, 04:36:07 AM
Recently, "i decided that some of my players could go in favor of more sustained value guitars. In France, that means not too recent american guitars."
I wrote that a few posts below but then i realized that i was short a few colors of the rainbow:

Open Discussion / NGD also
February 14, 2024, 04:19:32 AM
Recently, looking at my guitars, their sheer numbers and the absolute certainty that i was missing one, a very brief "you should be ashamed of yourself" popped up in my thoughts.
I checked thoroughly and the outcome of this intense introspection that lasted 17ms was that i'm not.
However, i decided that some of my players could go in favor of more sustained value guitars. In France, that means not too recent american guitars.
So i started with the buying, we'll see about the selling later.
Here you go:  a 80's guild M80. First conversations are promising.

VFE Projects / Dragonhound LM308 substitute
January 24, 2024, 03:50:56 PM
Hi all,
Not ready nor willing to pay for a LM308 that i have no guarantee to be  genuine.

I've seen a glass mod with a ne5534.
What would be other substitute to stick to the general idea of the pedal?

Requests / Moodring in a 1590b format
January 20, 2024, 05:03:54 PM
I love my moodring.
I loooooove it. I think this is my favorite madbean pedal.
I can live with the resident 125b on my board and i would buy another one if that was available but i thought it could be a good standard serie candidate.

Build Reports / Not an amp, not a pedal sort of both
January 14, 2024, 03:41:40 PM
What's better than an amp?
Two amp.
I've been lucky to be able to play two good tube amps at once for a very long time. With time and age, it became difficult and stupid to play tube amps. So for the price of a tube set, i bought a boss katana 50W a few years ago. it is always on, cope very well with low volume and was very lonely.
So i decided to build this just for the test:

The gutshot is awful but it's basically a unbuffered klon that i decided to use as a preamp & volume control

The amp itself is one of this poweramp card sold everywhere from ebay to amazon for around 20 zargloubs from EU or US that i decided to test. Obviously it is given for 10 000 Watts and is probably closer to 10W never pushed past 1/3rd. Enough for home use.

A fireaxe or a B65 would have been a better choice for the preamp section, the klon works.

I thought it could give a few idea on how quickly to build a cheap stereo setup. I use mine in a dry / wet setup where all modulation effect are going to the katana and the dry sound goes to this tiny box. I plan to build another one to add stereo to my delay.

Requests / Kill switch with adjustable speed pot
January 12, 2024, 07:25:41 AM
I would love a kill switch with a momentary switch that kills the sound sort of like a tremolo with adjustable speed.
My ignorant self feels like this could be a simple and fun one.

Build Reports / Granma's pedalboard
January 10, 2024, 01:47:11 PM
Forever since i posted something there.
I used some time off to build a new pedalboard from old oak wood that i saved after house restoration. Mainly windows frame & floor wood. Did not see much of them in the section, so some pedal build as well.
This thing floating in the air around the wood looking like dusty spider web is actually a very rare picture of pure mojo.

Getting rid of it

Adding glue and voilĂ :
Powersupply and cable mgmt will be more easily accessible without having to move the board.

Open Discussion / Who's playing Baritone guitar?
December 22, 2023, 05:58:21 PM
Hi all, i'm one not so proud member of the club "back to pedal building and hence back here". Most of you who were there almost 10 years ago won't remember me. So hi again from France.
One of the reason i got pulled back to the hobby is that i was struggling to make a lot of my pedals work for Baritone.
Now, the freqency range of a Baritone (i play mine in Drop A tuning) is not that far off a standard guitar with lowest string around 50hz but the overall timbre of the instrument is darker & rounder which does not always work with dirt pedal that makes it often even more darker.
So if any of you out there have suggestions of pedals or mods to known circuit, i'll be happy to hear them.

Everything is in the title.

I'm building a couple of pedals that are using or could benefit from an expression pedal.
I'm guessing that a from scratch build recycling another wah shell but why not trying a 2 in 1?

That may mean a weener wah II with an optical pot, not very mojo but i don't care for mojo. It would be as if i was a lost billionaire getting out of a desert and staring at a bar.

General Questions / amp kit 3- Italian kits
December 04, 2012, 02:39:10 PM
I haven't seen anything cheaper and i really searched:
http://www.enovaz.it/categorie-1517/Per-chitarra.aspx

Their shipping prices are really decent as well.

Anyone out there have any experience with these guys?

One of the build i'm the most proud of, thanks to bangerang & Brian for its layout version 2.0, see this post

Here it is sitting on top of my weener wah:

Hi Guys,

Second Dirtbag build, second sets of issues. This thing is a beast to build.
I have delay on IC outputs but only "dry" & "noised" signal on the board output
So far, what i've done:
- Debugged a few thing (2n5087 was dead and led was always on for instance)
- IC voltages checks ok compared to my first build.
- Audio probed up to the compander (tested & working), delay input level on pins 14&15 is ok, outputs on pins 10&11 is audible but barely.

R11 & R12 are 68k according to the MN3005 BOM.

What should i check next?
I was planning on removing & socketing R11 & R12 but before unsolder these i would like some feedback.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Pork Barrel 9V bias issue
November 01, 2012, 07:45:13 AM
I couldn't bias my pork barrel at 9V. I tried around 12V and it was easy then.

My question is, should i troubleshoot this and then what am i supposed to check or should i just stick a road rage in there because it just "sounds better"?

Requests / Tap tempo phaser
October 31, 2012, 04:57:51 PM
Weird idea i know. But there are some out there and even if this is not a feature i would use very often, am i the only one who thought more than once having two of them in a single pedalboard with different speed set?

Actually, this will allow with Jakob's board for delay, Taylor's tremolo to have a single dedicated momentary switch pedal to control the tempo of three effect at once with a jack running from it to the three pedals somehow.

Looks like an interesting pedal for bass that could be also used for guitar.

Open Discussion / Wah pedal to build
April 17, 2012, 03:08:39 PM
Hi guys,

I have a wah enclosure that i used to control the speed of a tremulus.
Taylor's tap tempo board made it useless.

I own a vox v847 wah that i like way better than a crybaby but does not use that much. somehow i find it too "clean".
I was ready to etch a clyde Mccoy board using fuzzcentral layout but then i thought i could ask for feedback first.

What would you guys build if you had a wah enclosure lying around?

General Questions / Cave dweller in a 1590BB?
April 11, 2012, 04:03:18 PM
Cave dweller builder:

I just redraw in eagle (mostly for exercise) the cave dweller using regular size components.
Is there a point to etch it to use in a 1590b box or better use the sea urchin?
I have an echo base, a sea urchin & i plan to build the 1590A cave dweller anyway...

General Questions / Cave dweller parts question
April 06, 2012, 02:56:13 PM
Can't find a small 1u cap for C10 at a reasonable price as it is the single component i miss.
Can i use a tantalum instead?
And if it's the case how should i orient the polarity? Reading the schematic i would guess :

+ pole connected to the PT2399, meaning left negative, right positive when looking at the pcb.

Brian?

Hi guys,

I'm getting unlucky with my boxing: i just boxed an incredibly well working low rider and the tracking took a hit in the process for OC1.
It's not very bad but it's nothing like it was.

I mounted the dc supply jack above R49. Could damaging it have weaken the tracking?
The OC1 knob works as it did before.

Otherwise, where to check first?

General Questions / Pots stock (supplier / values)
March 04, 2012, 09:48:04 AM
I need to stock some pots as it is slowing most of my build. (I'm building around 3/4 pedals a month)

What supplier would you recommend?
The cheapest source i found so far is Tayda with an average of 50 cents/pot

So far, i'm thinking of stocking this to give me a bit of air, suggestions are welcome:
