Build Reports / Superfuzz
July 20, 2017, 04:21:54 AM
Simple superfuzz.  What a great sounding evil fuzz.  Pcb is from ukelectronics.de  On the documentation, they suggest BC548A transistors.  Very aggressive almost ring modulation sound.  Some others (Fuzzdog) suggest 2N5088 for maximum gain.  I ended up with a mix of 3 of each.

Build Reports / Screaming Skull (mxr blue box)
March 12, 2017, 06:41:30 AM
Finished my first attempt with a fuzzdog's PCB.  And it worked like a breeze.
The switch is for choosing one or two octave below and there is an added boost for getting more volume than the original.

I built it stock except for the IC i put a TL072 instead of the 5558, a lite bit less noisy but still plenty of fuzz and octave.  It's a great sounding pedal if you're into messy stuff.

Hi,
I had this project waiting for a while and i finally got the time to build it.
It is my first try for a two pedal in one enclosure and thanks to the madbean forum it worked without any problem.

So the Japanese twin is a maxon OD820 (with an nimbus aion pcb) and the british twin is a Colorsound overdriver (plasma aion pcb).
The PCBs are great, easy to solder.
The switch in the middle of the pedal let you chose wich effect goes first in the chain and both can be used as clean boost or overdrive (with a lot of drive for the overdriver), so you have a lot of sounds in the bag.
As always, my wiring is messy but it's not the worst i have done.  And there are extra holes on the side as i made them too close to the pcb at first... Anyway, i like it and here it is.

Build Reports / The Velvet Claw (Red Snapper)
April 20, 2016, 07:55:38 AM
Hi there, I noticed i didn't have any overdrive pedal and decided to build one.  I liked alot the red snapper demos so i chose this pedal.  I use the tagboard Fx layout and it do sound really nice. I re-used the 1776 pcb switch from an old project so it has been desoldered and it's a bit messy and my wiring still sucks.  I cannot cut those wires short...
Cool pedal and a usefull one with the bite and cut knobs you can dial alot of tones.  I like it :-)

Open Discussion / Great one note solos
December 19, 2014, 10:31:03 AM
Hi, sometimes (very) less is more.  So, il love great songs with great one note solos.
I start with the obvious

And another of my favorites

Any other one note solo songs that you like?

Hello,
I finished my second vero build, it's the Catalinbread Formula n°5 with the layout from Tagboard effects, including the "more mode" modification.  I put the "more mode" on a footswitch for ease of use  :)  I made one for myself and one for a friend.
It's also the first time that i use my Test board and it proved to be useful the very first time.  Unboxed everything seemed fine, then boxed nothing happended with the more mode.  It took me a couple of hours to debug the pedal instead of the usual three or five days without sleep ;D

I am very happy with this build even if my wiring is still terrible and some dust was catched between to layers of clear coat.
As sound goes, i would say it sounds 80% like the original.  The main differences are :
- less gain in the Buffalo (except on the rage setting where the gain can be higher than on the catalinbread);
- the buffalo cuts some of the highs and not the catalinbread;
- the sound of the buffalo is more defined than the Catalinbread but also a bit more "flat".

For my taste it sounds very good and the Rage mode can go to almost fuzz when gain is maxed up.  As i own the "real thing" the differences add just some other taste.

Hello,
i just finished a pepper spray but with the two knobs at max i have very low volume and no gain and almost all the treble is gone.  I checked my soldering twice and i don't see any solder bridge.  I checked also the ground connections and everything seems fine. Also when i use the dpdt switch the sound change (a little bit) so it seems to function. The only thing (except the sound  :) ) is that the led is not as bright as it should be.

So can anyone give me some advice for other possibilities?

Hi there,
i love phaser effect but i like when the effect is very subtle and light.  But usually i found that when there is a mix knob it cut the treble alot (like in my ehx the worm or in the voodoolab microvibe).  I had once a lovetone doppelganger that i sold (don't ask me why) and it had a blend knob that did exactly what i want.  SO, i would like to build a phase pedal and add a blend knob.  I found schematics for some blend but i haven't seen how to add one within the circuit of a pedal (yes my tech knowledge is more than limited).  So any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Hello,
i was planning to build  two pepper spray and i messed with my stock of transistors and now i only have one 2N3565 and i can't order oversea just one transistor so is there a good and easy to find equivalent for this transistor? ... or am i doomed  :-\

Thanks

Build Reports / Divided Octave
January 23, 2014, 12:37:53 PM
Hi, as a Neil Young lover, i was looking for this clone for a long time.  It is pricey but i finally took the try.  That is the biggest pcb i made so far and the first time i used pcb mounted pots.  But i must say the manual was very clear and everthing worked the first time.  I like it a lot.

Build Reports / The Go Fuzz (Grind Custom Bendover)
January 21, 2014, 02:01:12 PM
Hi there, just finished this bendover fuzz wich is supposed to be a tone bender like but with npn transistors that should sound like pnp.  I never played a tone bender but this sound very sillicon IMO.  Anyway, it's a good sounding hi gain fuzz.  I added a sag knob and tried a different box. Fun but i should not have put the in and out jacks on the side!

Build Reports / The loner first vero build
October 31, 2013, 03:27:11 PM
Hi there, here is my first veroboard build. It's a lovepedal woodrow with the layout for a added gain pot from Guitar FX layout. Called it the loner. Very simple design but i had to make it twice since i had too much bad soldering on the first.  Never ending learning...
Still trying different diodes and transistors but the original 1N914 and 2N5088 sound really good.

Build Reports / Pepper Spray Albini specs
November 06, 2012, 01:38:06 PM
Here is my pepper spray built with the albini specs. I used the diodes specified on the info sheet and i must say that i love the sound best with the two bat 41s.  I love the overdrive it gets with both knobs around 2pm, very early sonic youthish sound.

The enclosure is a little slimmer than your usual hammond 150B so i had to turn the pcb a bit to fit in.

Build Reports / First Madbean built : Mudbunny Civil War
November 06, 2012, 01:12:22 PM
Here are some pics of my mudbunny with the civil war specs.  I think big muffs sound better in big boxes but i cut the wires way to long before boxing and was too lazy to desolder and cut them shorter. I love the sound anyway (i hate my little big muff now).

Tech Help - Projects Page / cave dweller very noisy
August 15, 2012, 06:29:13 AM
Hello, i have finished a cave dweller delay, my second madbean pedal after a mudbunny.

Everything seems to work fine as the 3 pots do what they should and the delayed notes are very smooth and nice.

BUT there is a lot of noise coming with the delayed signal.  I have read the previous topics and understand that the more the time is increased the more it can be noisy.  But with my pedal you can hear noise when the time is on minimum no matter where i set the dwell and echo.

From what i read on the other posts I can check another chip or change the value of the time pot.  I tried to put another regulator with no success.

Any other idea would be much appreciated.

Thanks alot

BrunO
