Open Discussion / Mic Preamp using runoffgroove ideas
January 31, 2021, 12:39:38 AM
Could the Runoffgroove foundation laid for using jfets to replace 12ax7's in guitar preamps

do the same to design a simple pseudo-tube microphone preamp using jfets?

What do you guys think?  I am way to far out of practice to technically answer (or figure out the answer to) my own question.

Story about an interesting use of  Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chips to optimize circuitry in an organic fashion.  The results are cool.

Open Discussion / New Ebay Store
June 30, 2017, 05:33:39 PM
I found a new seller on ebay for us bottom dwellers.  I thought you guys might be jonesing for $30 strat and tele necks or $90 headless steinberger or Flying V DIY kits.  Violin bass kit for $111.  Left handed necks for backwards people!  and one of those pocket guitar chord trainers for $12 (this one might actually be good).  Do stay away from the joyo-rebadged-a-million-times power supply.  7 of the 9v outlets share 100mA.  That seems weak to me.

I am actually tempted by the headless guitar kit.
Enjoy

Open Discussion / nintendo 3ds pokemon x
July 28, 2016, 01:52:29 AM
My son is 7 and playing pokemon x on his 3ds.
He wants a charmander.
The GTS trading function is over his head, and the internet access is not allowed for him anyway.
Does anyone have a Charmander he can trade for a reasonable pokemon?

I have researched and he is breeding his starters for trades.

Open Discussion / Hamburger Helper inspired mixtape
April 02, 2016, 02:09:23 AM
Has anyone seen or heard the Hamburger Hepler - inspired music, https://twitter.com/hashtag/WatchTheStove?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc^tfw called Watch The Stove.

It is hilarious.  It takes me back.  The music is pretty dang good.
It is a marketing stunt, but a really good one.
Scroll to the first music video.  Killer.

Open Discussion / Glenn Frey RIP

Great singer.  Great songwriter.
The Eagles doc on Netflix made him seem like an angry and very difficult man to deal with.  I hope he mellowed out and enjoyed his life.
I have spent my life with his music and it has always been a blast to play the Eagles albums and songs live.
Our Rock Gods are leaving us faster and faster.   Their legacies are so huge.

Even low voltage systems appear to be affected by solar activity over time.
The end of the article says experts are looking into the effects on household electronics.
https://medium.com/the-physics-arxiv-blog/insurance-claim-data-reveals-the-hidden-damage-from-geomagnetic-storms-df5c2e4d895e

Wonder how battery powered systems and bbd chips and the like are affected.

Open Discussion / Be my therapist for a moment.
August 22, 2014, 03:40:50 AM
ok.  breath.

Computer hacked.
Music computer hacked.  Ten years of compostition, demos, and recordings lost.
Bank accounts hacked.
Phone... hacked.
Credit cards hacked.  I have some new ones I did not know about also.
Student loan account hacked.
Email accounts hacked.
I won $40,000 worth of jewelry and vintage clothing auctions on ebay.
Many many passwords hacked for forums and other sites.  Madbean forum still works for me.
Storage unit hacked.
Mailbox hacked.

I keep finding more and new little hiccups in my online and just in general existence.
I use the term hack to cover various versions of actions both technological and not.

Can someone please contact duhvoodooman for me and ask him to email me or something?  If you could just pm me.  I cannot login at byoc and cannot change my password.  I was in the middle of communication and transaction with him and cannot get on the site to talk to him.  I was able to use my work computer to login once and now it is not allowed to login there either for some reason.  I am afraid to find out why.

I am a bit depressed and feel like a wounded animal.  I am not even angry anymore.  Thankfully I have my little boy 24/7/365 and he helps a lot.  Glad he is safe too.  But I cannot talk to him about any of this either.  And his life was hit hard due to missing money and other related situations.
>:(:'(
Take some comfort that my paypal account was not pilfered.  My nightmare was actually that someone may have invoiced all my contacts.  I have an evil imagination.

Thanks for letting me vent a little.  Let's be careful out there.

wonderful happenings.
My ex is an addict.  I have mentioned it a few times. ::)
So, I have drank practically nothing for 4 years.  The last two weeks I have been drinking a few bottles of hard cider.  My tolerance is so low, I get a good buzz before the bottom of the first bottle.  I am feeling pretty great by the time I finish the second.  I am not a big drinker so two is enough.  It is like getting your drink on for the first time, again. :)
I like hard cider.  I never had a taste for beer, so a good find for me.

Open Discussion / vacuum transistors
June 25, 2014, 09:58:43 AM
http://spectrum.ieee.org/semiconductors/devices/introducing-the-vacuum-transistor-a-device-made-of-nothing
This curious mash-up of vacuum tube and MOSFET could one day replace traditional silicon.

Apparently NASA scientists may make us very happy.  The Jfet through-hole crunch may not matter in a decade.
Lots of guitar electronic ... possibilities.
Saw this on TGP btw.

Open Discussion / tayda transistors status
April 13, 2014, 06:46:42 PM
Many of us do business with Tayda.

I have read some members have had troubles with some of the transistors being out of spec.

I was hoping we could compile some info in a thread of users' experiences good or bad with transistors.
I ask because I also have many unused transistors from tayda and would like to save myself and other the hassle of using transistors that will not work.

I have set aside my j201's from tayda.

Open Discussion / Solder Paste
February 28, 2014, 12:57:40 AM
What solder paste is the correct one to use?
I am a confident solder jockey and not a soldering beginner.  But am willing to expand my horizon toward this.
I appreciate any assistance, and I think there are several interested forumites.
thanks

Open Discussion / Kloner diodes
January 26, 2014, 03:17:29 AM
I thought it might be cool for everyone to mention their favorite Klone diodes and why.
Seems relevant at the moment for some reason. :)

I have the Chimaera with Bat41 (per the Sunking pdf).  Sound good.  I would like a switch to try BAT46.  I am also wondering if the diodes make much difference.

Open Discussion / Bassist Alert!!

All bassists should take a look at Bajaman's new project.

Jimilee can stop his eternal Bass tone search. ;)

Bajaman is a giant in the community.  and recements his place from time to time.  This is a big one.
