Open Discussion / Almost NTGD!
February 26, 2016, 05:31:10 PM
I'm kind of an oddball in that I came to guitar via the mandolin, after inheriting my Dad's Martin 0-17T tenor guitar. Tenor is the only guitar I play. I asked Gabriel Currie of Echopark Guitars to make me an electric tenor about a year and a half ago, and it's about ready to be shipped.

Build Reports / Tonebender MkIII build

I built this on a board I laid out with an on-board charge pump. It's pretty much Soulbender specs, with some NOS Japanese germs and a OA126 diode.

Build Reports / First wah build
May 16, 2015, 05:35:00 PM
I built this for one of my kids using a Vox shell I found on Ebay and an etched Weener Wah board. Thanks to Joe Gagan for the great parts and service!

Does anyone have suggestions for a replacement material for the rubber foot tread? The original had VOX cut out of it. I routed the raised letters on the shell down flush and would like to cover them up.

I recently etched a 424 pcb with board mounted pots. By the time I finished monkeying around with it trying to get the pots soldered without shorts from pad to pad, I had lifted a couple of traces. I ran jumpers, which were working, until I boxed it that is. Now, not so much. Anyone have any tips or tricks for working with pin mount pots on single sided pcbs? I've re-etched the circuit and will try it again. I'm thinking of just trying to be super careful during the soldering operation, and then using some epoxy on the back side to stabilize the pins.

Saw this over at TGP and thought I would share it here. And you thought carbon comps were snake oil!

I do think the guy has a real talent for product names. I mean, how do you come up with FROG JUMP IN WATER SOUND TWEAK USING ORDINARY WATER or TELEPORTATION TWEAK LONG DISTANCE SYSTEM UPGRADE?

Excuse me, I need to go tape some rocks to my cables...

Tech Help - Projects Page / Deadringer 2 cut pot
May 27, 2014, 03:54:40 AM
I'm working on the Deadringer 2 pcb, and I am wondering why the cut pot is the plastic shaft one specified on the BOM. Why not just use a 50K metal shaft pot like the others?

Has anyone tried Jameco for 5457s? Price is pretty good (10@.79), plus they are local for me.

Build Reports / Firefly 1.5w amp build
March 23, 2014, 11:17:32 PM
Just got this together. What a blast! Not too much in the clean tone department, but if you want growl, it's awesome. Great pcb (ronsound.com) makes it a pretty easy build if you want to get into amps. I'll be working on a box for it soon.
